Daniel, How about renting goats. There are people who rent their goats for brush control. One of the largest operations rents their goats to airports. Goats also are in demand to take on undergrowth where the land is too steep to safely mow. As you point out marketing is the key.
Especially in California, to get ahead of the fires they have the goats eat all of the years of built up fuel.😉
Yes, the airport I used to work at would rent goats to clear a steep area.
Just a side note; I really like how you let your dog try and handle it's relationship with the goats before you get involved, even when that involves growling, mouthing, and barking. Too many times people try and force their dog to stop "making scary noises" without managing the goats behaviour. Can leads to a dynamic where dogs can get hurt or bullied because they aren't allowed them to stick up for themselves and set boundaries.
I wish the USA had more of a market for goats and sheep. The meat is delicious and yet most American have never eaten it. None of the stores around here sell goat meat. The only store I know of to buy lamb is Sam's club and it is shipped in from New Zealand and it is expensive. I see that people are starting to learn more and more about these types of meat watching videos like your and Dutch. Thank you both for taking the time to make videos on getting goats and/or sheep.
Can’t believe there aren’t more people selling goat meat. Especially in parts of the US with high immigrant populations.
Trevor Spencer I intend to start within the next couple of years
Very good meat I live in Georgia from Iraq originally
I’m looking forward on having a few goats so I can start breading then just one question is there any rules and regulations over land size etc?
You are the immigrant .Go back to Europe !!!
@@apachetribeswearealive2313 Easy there buddy, we all love goats foreign origin or not.
Awesome Cluster!!! Daniel (the Master), Bear (the Protector), and the Goats. Another informative video that I really appreciate. Thank You Daniel
Just got 25 areas in Tennessee and are looking to farm all but goats are one of the main need to learn thanks this helps I'll be following you more thanks again
I need someone to look at me like bear looks at you 😆
Me too.
Me too.
This is very informative. I'm not looking to make money. I like goat meat. It's gonna be another two season until I'll have that area of the yard fenced with a shed and shelter. We bought raw land and built so it's a work in progress
I have a customer who is planning on doing "goat yoga" with the doelings she bought from me. I thought she was joking til I looked it up. 😂
Yep its a real deal!
Lol
My rheumatism has gotten so bad I'd pay just to have them trample my shoulders
I like the sound of that goat milk soap, thank you for the information, great video!
Daniel, I know you love Bear, you can see it through both you and Bear. Dogs are my favorite, I have 4 myself. You can see the love in Bear's eyes, and I'm sure if there were the right kind of vocal cords and all, we would have heard....I love you, Daniel!
I know at times it gets aggravating, having to spread yourself thin, during a recording. But I just wanted to take a minute and commend you on handling the situation with true "AWESOMENESS"!!
God bless!
Sue Hinson oh good lord
I had no option after more insightful videos about my goats i found it unfair not to hit the button and the 🔔. You are awsome !
My city runs 2 herds of brush-clearing goats to get to those places where you look at and go "how on earth do they use a mower on that". then sells the excess goats for meat to reduce over-wintering costs.
You forgot the angora goat. A good fleece can be profitable too! Love your videos!
Cashmere is even more per kilo, but there is more effort in processing to remove the guard hairs.
Exactly! That's what I plan on having, there are also crosses like Pygora and Cashgora, if you want smaller breeds that can also possibly be milkers.
Yes
ROFLOL! your having a hell of a time recording this video. just funny. thanks for sharing, good information to know. have a good one
Sorry late to the table, excellent video, full of useful information
that is a great video and funny enjoyed very much and informative thanks Daniel and bear
We started a game new here. Every time Daniel say "amazing" a drink we all take. If these videos get longer, we need more booze we have to buy. Having a gooood time watching. Keep the shows coming more for us, we like 'em.
PoBoy Jelly Our drinking game is about “Bear.” One drink when Daniel says Bear with affectionate annoyance, three when.....
I wasn't aware goats were registered. You've definitely given me some things to think about going forward
So glad, please be safe
Bear is proving what a nice guy you are!
Love the videos mate.. I'm from Australia I work in a small slaughterhouse we kill goats... I've noticed there very hard to buy but there's a huge market.. my idea was buying approx 100 acres running a heard and either selling directly to slaughterhouse or start my own as I'm a slaughterman and a butcher! Cheers mate
Whereabout in Australia are you? Sounds like a great idea. Im located near Melbourne and i was thinking of the same thing.
Daniel, doesn't Bear help you in most videos!? I love that dog! I agree on the registered thing. My registered goats go for three times the amount of the unregistered. Knowing the good herd names in your breed is the key! I was lucky to get some well known names right from the start. Great video!
The main reason I watch his videos is because bear helps to keep it interesting.lol
I learned so much today! Thank you Bear!
Awsome video. My dream is to have a few acres to raise a few boer goats when I get out of college. I hope my dream comes true!
You can also earn money on goats by running a petting zoo. Maybe get a few other animals for variety, like miniature ponies and miniature pigs. I had a step-grandfather that owned a trout-fishing pond. The two businesses would go together well in a resort type of rural area. Some kids could be entertained in the petting zoo while others could fish. Miniature golf would go well too.
I got interested in goats because people were getting paid to graze their goats on weeds and brush, especially hard-to-control stuff like kudzu and thistles.
Your goats are friendly!
Your just a wealth of information Daniel✌🤓
@Hello William Chesser, How are you doing?
That was a good video there 🐐🐐🐶 👍👍
Great information on making money on goats. We are interested in both meat and possibly dairy goats on our future homestead. Very informative
Hi..... Daniel, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Hi Mr Arm's, I am checking to make sure you are ok. I saw a news story from over in your area. Praying for all you you.
It's all good here.
Goat meat taste very very very very goood. I had some today
Great video! I have also been thinking about renting my goats out for targeted grazing as well.
Good tips. Thank you
Great tips Daniel. We have talked about getting a few goats to raise for meat but never on the bigger scale. What about goat poop is that a good fertilizer to collect and sell. I know we had rabbits one time and sold the poop for fertilizer and it was worth the time to collect it.
Well it is great fertilizer but I've never tried selling it.
I love your dog 🐶
Great tips!
I agree with you, I raise registered purebred Nubians with top milk lines. In Oklahoma I can sell 100 gallons of milk each month. At a going rate of $8 to $10 a gallon there is a bit of money there, but added value of making something with that milk beats that.
Show goats and great pedigrees put a good price on my kids.
I agree with your top three for goats, good job! The US is still importing millions of pounds of goat meat annually because US producers can't keep up with the demand. We process some of our kiko kids for our own freezer, it is an awesome meat. Marketing is so true. We were able to sell all of our commercial this year just by marketing. Having digital scales and selling by the pound live weight makes things handy too. We do sell primarily registered kikos though, 100% New Zealand, Purebred and a few percentages. If you are ever looking for a good registered buck, (or does) you should stop by some time.
Nice video
Once you have eaten some good cabrito (BBQ'd young goat) you will never forget it.
@Hello Stoney Creek Heritage farm, How are you doing?
Dairy goat like any dairy ties you down everyday no matter the weather or how you are feeling
I have been searching for goat meat for years, so I could try it, see if I liked it, before I committed. Most restaurants that serve it (Houston), serve it at a huge price, OR, it's so covered in Korean spices, that you can't taste the meat. I think I may make the plunge this year, regardless.
Good info
Thank you so much
Fiber! Angora or Cashmere goats are awesome.
Just like dogs line breed /out cross ..good video
I think I'm going to raise sheep and goats.
I ate goat alot in the gan with the ana I always liked it
your dog obviously loves you
My wife and I have about 40 bilberry goats we make pretty good with them..
Wow, Bear does not care for the Billy bothering his girls!
Pygmy goats, registered or not…because of cuteness and fun pet…👍😀
I saw a craigslist post this morning asking $1k a piece for registered kiko bucklings in Northwest OK. I didn't even think you could register kikos. I guess I missed that during my goat research.
Yes you can and some of them are very expensive.
Great video as always. Unregistered 6 month old dappled Boer doe went for $420 today at the auction in Bowie,TX. Blew me away
William McCowen I called on some borper sheep registered today 500 each I was like ouch time to call some more people
Hello Mr. Arms;
Thank you for your service to your community! Not goat community, but geographic community. I think you know what I'm referring to.
We are putting together a business plan to raise Boer Goats south of you in Kerr County Texas. I enjoy your videos, they are informative and entertaining. There are a number of Boer Goat or meat goat associations. Do you have an opinion on any that might be helpful in our quest to develop a profitable business and stay profitable. I am looking for information on the "nut and bolts" as well as selecting our first Buck and Does.
Warm Regards
Thank you for the information and options. You just may have changed my wife's mind.
Getting the wife on board is always huge!
WHERE CAN WE BUY THOSE ELECTRIC FENCING PLEASE, i LOVE YOUR VIDEO,
I'm just getting started in raising goats and farming and the more I hear about the USDA, the more I realize they are there to protect the big industrial farms and stiffle small farms. Just add them to the list of federal agencies that need to be done away with.
Thanks for the tip on the other site, that is great....yea soap. I never knew soap was made from milk, so weird to me.
What was Bear tussling over with that buck? That was an interesting scuffle.
Yea, I am just wondering if all that kabob I ate in Afghanistan was goat meat, it had to have been....or mutton. Whatever it was it was good!
Yep I have seen, read and heard about the dairy regulations and there are a lot....also with the meat processing centers. When we drove around in northern Idaho (or future home) we saw lots of ppl who were game processors for elk, moose, etc. and also livestock processors. That was something I never knew and surprising yet definitely a nice thing.
The bloodlines was something I was familiar with due to my dog interests but didn't realize how important it was in goats and sheep....also learned about pure breed vs ….I already forgot the word for the one that is 100% pure....full blood?
Stephan Quintavalli
When I learned how to make goat milk soap, it didn't use much milk at all. Lots of messing around tho, a detailed process. Edit: true soap is made from any kind of fat, reacting with lye. It can leave your shower and your hair n skin scummy bc of the fat. Many bar soaps are not true soap.
@Hello Steve, How are you doing?
We have a restaurant "The Cave Bar and Grill" in Lanagan, Missouri it's on facebook. We have Kiko/pygmy goats and our customers love them. We have coin opp feeders and the goats pay for themselves, lol.
That's awesome.
That's awesome
I recently watched a documentary about King Billy . In Australia ranchers are herding feral goats to sell to North America and Europe. They russled 40,000 goats before noon and the narrator said they were worth $250,000 ! I so want to start farming. Just don’t have any land and land is expensive around here. I work for myself landscaping and also don’t want to quit my day job or move to far from my clients. Land is cheaper an hour from here
P.s. thank you for the inspiration and information.
I saw the same documentary and honestly it was pretty awesome! Who would have thought a “nuisance” would be worth soo much!
What goats are worth and what they sell for is a total different story.
If the math is correct, 40,000 head makes them worth $6.25 per head. Seems hardly worth it.
4,000 would be $62.50 per head. Perhaps profitable since you have nothing invested other than round up and transportation cost.
400 head would be $625.00 seems unlikely.
Just a numbers point of view.
We make about 15000 a year selling show goats for 4h ffa, we make about 5000 a year through auction for our culls and wethers after show
How many do you have?
More goat cameos!
hi!!! can you make the view when you make food for them?
Bear has your Billy in check.
Bear wubs you!
Daniel how often do you change your breeding Billy? I know with cattle we changed the bull every 2 or three generations to avoid inbreeding problems.
Most goat people do about the same.
How long to keep your Buck for breeding? Can he breed his off spring?
Awesome cluster. Poor ol' Bear. He just wants a little of his own youtube face time, "My Favorite Things About..." by Bear.
You've had the spotted boer goat for a while - has she ever gotten a name? Or are names just for the bottle kids that your kids raise?
I got 20 acres in west texas, I need to set it up for farming goats etc.
Make me manager I have good experience in handling goat farm
i love me some curried goat
Yes!
How about renting them out to clear out other peoples land? Plus feeding them is relatively free then.
Love the video! I eat goat meat and want to buy one goat
goat talk, hosted by Bear
Can you do a video on goat jerky?
Loved the humor in this video. Great information for those of us starting out. What is considered market age? 6 month, 12 months? Do be people wsnt to eat 2 or 3 year old does?
Thanks Daniel
Most of the time 50 lbs is the perfect market size. I’d say usually that’s 6-8 months old for most meat goats.
Do you need permitting for a small goat herd?
What about turning the skins into mats?
I love watching you, your goats and Bear. I have 4 goats. Got them for mainly pets. I have 2 Nigerian Dwarf, one male, one female, 1 Nubian dwarfs, male and 1 Nubian regular female. My female ND is pregnant, due January 3, 2020, by the ND billy. My female Nubian regular was going to be breed by my Nubian Dwarf, but the female got very sick, almost died, and she is too small to breed. That male Nubian is always in Rut and drives me crazy. I have nothing to breed him with and now wish I never got him. I was so new to goats and didn't know any better. Maybe he will become dinner :(. HERE IS where your help is needed. We have 50 acres with cattle on it and we take the calves to market to make money. We want to start raising meat goats. It is my understanding that we can raise cattle and goats on the same property, each will eat the preferred. Before we buy any goats to start our meat goat herd, I want all of the advice I can research. Right now I am thinking we should buy KIKO. Maybe buy 10 females and 1 male, all registered. Reason I will choose Kiko is, I've heard, they make better mamas, they don't need their hooves trimmed as often, they are more resistant to worms and they eat more off the land, when available. If I am correct in that thinking, my next thought is once 10 mamas have, lets say, 2 kids each that came from that 1 buck, who can then breed any of my kids? or should I even worry about that, but rather sell all of the kids and when my nannies get to old to have kids, get new nannies and a new buck to do it all again. I don't want to wait until things occur and then ask questions. Trying to save myself future headaches. Glad I watched this video. I will buy registered rather than wish I did. Thank you
I wouldn't mind having meat goat and dairy goats myself. I grew up in a Mexican household and yes goat is tasty
Where I live they sell goats for $90-$200.
Goat milk stuff is literally 10 minutes away from my house I live in Underwood indiana
What kind of guard dog do you have?
The price of hay and the big work load doesn't pay in the end. I had sheep for many many years.
Let em eat grass
What is registered goat versus commercial goats.
what part of Oklahoma are you in? we just moved to Newalla from California and are looking to purchase some milking goats or one milking goat and a male, and hopefully they will have babies..lookin to make a small amount of income from milk goats.
I would love to try goat meat but just can't get it here and can't afford to buy a whole goat and have it processed.
Goat meat is NOT the number one consumed meat in the world. It’s not even close. Pork is the number one meat globally followed by poultry, beef and then sheep/goat. In fact, pork consumption is about 8 times bigger than sheep and goat combined.
Hi..... 🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
Another way you can make money I have some milk goats and I buy bottle calves I feed the calves goats milk I even have some caves nurse right on the goat while she's on the stanchion
🐐❤️🐐
1 sell goats
2 sell milk
3 sell meat
Thanks
Saved lots of my time
you can sell goat manure - it will be in demand for garden lovers
Daniel, could it be that Bear thought your male goat was trying to hurt the female? Later in the video, I noticed the male goat was sniffing around one of the females. I was impressed with Bear.
I think they were just sorting out who was in charge.
Why you choose Kiko’s over boer?
What if I just want to use my property to board other people's goats? I've looked and I'm getting weird results on UA-cam. Do you know anyone who is having success?
No I don't know of anyone who does goat boarding.
How many goats per acre are recommended?
But what is the cost involved in going through the registration process?
Thank you good info and funny real life frustrations lol
I varies from one breed to another but usually its really not too expensive at all. You might have to pay a yearly fee to be a member and then 20-50 dollars per animal to register them.
What breed of dog is Bear?
