Alfalfa is a legume not a grass. The cattle industry grows it and promotes it. Cows have multiple stomachs and process the high mineral and calcium for their milk production. It is a cheap hay and has a high protein (because it is a legume and not a grass) and is high in calcium. It is helpful for milk goats but it isn't the best grass for all goats because it builds up calcium and the kidneys are overwhelmed with it. Goats have multiple stomachs to process the minerals but horses have only one stomach and it can contribute to many problems. People feed alfalfa because it is a "reliable" cheap feed. But an ideal diet is real grass like Timothy, Bermuda, Orchard, and other genuine grasses.

I know this is completely off topic but here goes: How do you train your goats to follow you off leash? If you already have a video on that sorry I am kinda new to your channel. Thanks for the awesome advice.

Ell Chisholm I don’t have a video on that. Probably should. But the answer to your question is you just take them somewhere foreign and walk and they will follow you if they are bonded. Bonded usually just means that they like you, and that you are the alpha,. This is almost assured if they are bottle-fed

Thank you. I didn't think about it until you mentioned it, but being in a foreign place for them makes sense. For their first trip out, for more than one goat, do you take them together or one at a time? That is, if you did not have any that had done it before?

Ell Chisholm Take them all. They do better together.

Do they act like they're uncomfortable or in pain?

Candice Christensen Yes. Sometimes. Pawing at it with their hind feet and kicking the area.
