    I have an 81 CJ7 with a stock 304 v8, T176/Dana 300 that has been sitting for many years after losing a battle with a limousine and having the body mounts rip out. I have been kicking around a rebuild. The idea of a 2.8 swap is intriguing

    I have built many vehicles over the years, worked with Cummings Marine on experimental fast vessel engines in the 1980's and 1990's and am now building the most important build, my sons first vehicle. It is about time a diesel manufacture came out with this swap. The biggest issue for me has always been fuel consumption with my 4x4 builds. I am just starting the build and will purchase a engine from you all in the next few months. The vehicle will be a Jeep Wrangler 2 door, 2000 to 2010 year. Again great concept. Greg and Jessie

    Great stuff here. If you need a candidate to show how the swap goes. I have a 2010 Tundra, I think the new V8 would be a good fit for it.

    How does the engine deal with a JKU? It’s not huge displacement or HP, I’m concerned there isn’t enough in it to move the 4 door Jeep

And is there an addaptor kit provided for my model transmission?

      Walker Ashcraft depends on what you put it in this honestly with proper gearing could propel even a 1 ton rated truck look at the HP and torque rating then think back to 70s 80s and even 90s and the numbers of HP and torque in them from factory now consider the work those said vehicles performed over 30 plus years and reconsider your build are you a poser who needs screaming power to show off in a parking lot do you intend on pulling backhoes or mobile homes?

    • @ronaldharris6569
      @ronaldharris6569 4 роки тому +1

      They have the 6 cylinder engines in crate form on their website so that's enough even for full size crew cab trucks

    3.6l puts out 285hp and 260ish ft torque... does it make sense for this swap? I had a VW TDI and i loved the pep, torque, and fuel milage of that vehicle. I understand a jeep weighs more and i would be intrested in getting opinions on the 3.6L swap for this R2.8

    • @MrAbsentdriver
      @MrAbsentdriver 6 років тому

      Michael Baker it would not pass emissions, your vehicle is to new.
      You would be getting less power from the diesel also. Not an ideal swap in my opinion. Maybe give the 4 bt some thought....

    • @jbostephens
      @jbostephens 6 років тому

      Michael Baker don't forget that those numbaz jump dramatically soon as them toonz come out.

    • @MrAbsentdriver
      @MrAbsentdriver 6 років тому

      True, still won’t pass emissions, although thats not a big deal in some states. For that kind of money, why buy something with less power? I am intrigued by the light weight of this cummins though

    • @PureCountryof91
      @PureCountryof91 5 років тому

      MrAbsentdriver 30+mpg and mods exist, a 250hp marine setup, as well as inherent multi fuel abilities.. In fact an egr delete tune is out.. Get a feeling the channel may not like that idea..

    • @MrAbsentdriver
      @MrAbsentdriver 5 років тому

      PureCountryof91 maybe the swap is for you, but the idea of having to modify the cummins just to catch up to the factory gas engines specs doesn’t seem ideal to me, after also just paying ten thousand for the diesel before modifications or installation.....
      I do like cummins,,,,,.. but not this one for the jk....

    Anybody know if these would work in a single cab f150 or 1500 Silverado? Older 90s or 00s? If you can find a cheap old truck and throw the 2.8 in, seems like that would make a good daily driver.

    2004 Ford Explorer that is going to need to be converted over to 4WD and need a new transmission, probably a 6R80. And no, this build is not for optimum performance, this vehicle is sentimental and I want to keep it.
