    The engine the Dodge Dakota should have had as an option.

    • @FuttBuckerByMutt
      @FuttBuckerByMutt 5 років тому +5

      Did you know Dodge actually had a diesel option for the Dakota? They only offered it in Brazil, from I think 1999 to 2001. I think it made around the same amount of torque as the 5.2 magnum and around half the HP of the 5.2.
      My 99 Dakota has the 5.2 and even though it's a dog on my MPG, (I average around 14-15 during the warmer months) I've never had a problem with it starting it up. I just wish the body wasn't rusting away, because otherwise I could make it last another 10 years no problem, since I only have 128K on it.
      Anyone have any recommendations on wheels and tires? Currently I run 31x10.5xr15 with some cheap Cooper AT3's. I'm looking for more of a road/ All Season tire because my truck rarely sees the off road. Plus any tips on how to get better mileage I would appreciate greatly!

    I'm so freakin jealous! I had to sell my YJ because we ran into some hard times financially but I had been wanting to put a Cummins engine in it for a while now, I had planned on a 4bt only because it was more in my price range at the time but I've been drooling over the R2.8 ever since they came out. Nice rig, I'd love to see more videos on it, it looks like a super clean build. Hope to see more videos soon, thanks for sharing!

      I have two of them, one in my CJ7 and one in my FJ62- I also know quite a lot of people that have had them for the past couple years. The only problems I have heard or those those that push them with "tunes" to get a lot of horsepower and more torque. In fact most tunes now only push it to 400-440 ft lbs of torque for this reason. In stock form I don't believe there are any issues like this for the R2.8 variant. There were issues with the early ISF4 version that were built 10 years ago but those have been resolved.

    Hello, I am looking to do this to a CJ5 - Do you think this engine would be able to fit? I am unsure how big it is in person, also I am assuming you had someone else instal? What kind of transmission did you use? Thanks!

    • @gogop66
      @gogop66  4 роки тому +1

      Duncan - I am not sure if the CJ5 has the same engine compartment? There is a Facebook group called Cummins R2.8 Crate install and discuss - if you ask the question about fitment there, someone will know. I did have an installer do the work and I used an AX15 transmission out of a YJ. I have also done this with a FJ62 and used a 6L80e transmission for that one. Both needed adapters.

    Hopefully in the future, companies like jeep, toyota, and nissan, will start to offer a little economical, and high torque diesel engine like this, when brand new. I have an FJ, and will definitely swap out my engine, with something like the 2.8, when the engine is worn out. But unfortunately, being a toyota, I will have to wait until I have at least 500k miles, before that happens. With this new crate engine available, owners of jeep, can now have the engine reliability, that toyota owners enjoy. I always have been a big fan of the jeep, but have always turned away, because of the poor historical reliability. I am currently looking for an old jeep, with a blown engine, so I can do this engine swap. Fortunately, there are many to choose from.

      Slick Ratchet it’s still far cheaper than buying a new one and still not having the 2.8 but you do still have the same looking, same low performing new Jeep that everyone on the road already has. By the time you add on just basic mods to the new one, then you can figure that he has half as much invested but has twice the vehicle which pretty much nullifies your comment. @@1982MCI Agree. If you have a love of an older vehicle like this CJ7 and you want to repower, this is an awesome way to go. Some people just can't appreciate someone else's work or inspiration. I would love to do a repower of an older land cruiser, or 40's era truck like a cool cab over. There is even a 60's volvo sports car with this cummins engine, that is pretty unique.

      32mpg and probly less than 15k invested. Or 40k in some stock emission legal pos, getting 19mpg tops that requires software updates, def fluid, etc. Sounds like a solid winner to me.
