A Day in the Life of a Software Engineer in London
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Another day in the life of a full stack software engineer video, this time at the new tech company I joined during spring this year, where I onboarded virtually due to the pandemic. This month we had the option to visit the office whenever we preferred or carry on working from home, so here is just one of the amazing office visit days :)
Typical work day consists of standup, loads of coding, code reviews and meetings (technical planning or scrum meetings such as show and tell, retro, etc). Also we get a training day once every 2 weeks to train on any new technology we like :)

I love watching those videos it makes me study harder
Thanks :)
Keep up the work friend. I was like you few years ago watching video of developers daily life, now I am living this life
@@crimsonderiv Thanks :) exactly the same here, was watching developer vids back in 2014
@@harish795r I studied computer science, but anything related would work, e.g. mechanical engineering, mathematics
same here.
One of the most realistic day in the life video! This video really showed what a dev does in a day, pull requests, task management, bugs, etc. Not just eating and puppy times!
Fantastic video, keep it up!
Thank you 😊 i missed a lot of stuff out tho due to privacy
LOVE THAT BLACK CLOVER WALLPAPER
I watch these kind of video every morning and night and then work just like you
You are a full stack developer and working in London! What a dream!
Lovin the Black Clover wallpaper
It's helping me learn harder .thanks
I moved from my beloved city to a smaller town to study CS. Watching this makes me miss the city life so much, although the job I had in retail was killing me. Just one more year and I'll be alive again.
All the best!
@@Rayscafes Thanks man. You too! :-)
This is my dream! To be a software engineer in London. Well, I 'm already a software engineer, so hoping to be able to move to London one day!
Awesome, hope you can :) if you work for an international company, it should be easy
@@Rayscafes Hi, I think you are an excellent blogger. I have a project to work with you. You can use Telegram to add the phone number +91 83489 58764 whatsapp+91 80527 15951
Just remember. There’s no AC in Europe
@@kizarumelon2477 haha, in commercial buildings only
3 more years and I'll be done with my software engineering degree. Nice video, it's a good motivation for me.
Nice, study hard! And try to do an internship during those 3 years, thanks
Nice Black clover wallpaper man enjoyed the video!
Thanks dude! Can’t wait for the current arc to start properly
Saw the anime on the preview thumbnail, stayed for the curiosity of applying for computer science conversion courses
thanks JoJo's Bizarre Adventure :D
Nice office man! I am also working as a Full Stack developer in London, but we can only work from home :(
I miss those nice offices :)
Thanks, yah us too, but the office is opened, so have options :)
I loved it. Your voice was a bit lower than the music so it was hard to hear you but keep it up!
Thank you, will improve next time
Hey bro. . Please do upload regularly .if u can.
I also wanna be a part of dev jobs in london.but i am not sure where to start so .please do upload a new video about it.explaining how you got started with what knowlrdge and interview process
Thanks, good idea, will try soon :)
0:17 What a fantastic place?! Polish beer next to coffee machine? I really like it! XD
Haha, good spot 😆
It's always nice to see realistic "day in the life of" videos like this one.
very nice and professional working environment
This gives me motivation to study more.
Great 😊
Always a pleasure to watch your Day in the life videos, hopefully, I'll get a dev job someday. A minor criticism though: Maybe you need a better microphone, it was really hard to understand what you were saying even at full volume.
PS: Keep rocking that Black Clover wallpaper.
Thank you, don't worry, you will do :D Yup, I will invest in a microphone, was using my laptop built in mic lol
Love IT
In my case, I'd normally leave a set of peripherals at my house and at the office. In case of the office one, it is much easier as the screen can be used as a dock and a power passthrough. So I don't need any other docs/charging bricks at all!
Nice, me too, but brought mine home because i was gonna work from home for the rest of the year 😆
Warning - this is the best day of programmer
🤣 thanks 😅
Keep up the good work 👌✌💕
Thank you :D
Thanks for sharing!
thanks for watching 😊
Watched a video from an year ago, and now I see a chair upgrade :D
Lol! Big upgrade, yes. The ergonomic chairs are worth around 1k xD
@@Rayscafes What chair is that? :)
@@darktraveler1425 it’s a herman miller one
@@Rayscafes can u give a link to this chair?
@@evgeniyprowork I think its this one: store.hermanmiller.co.uk/store/hmiller/en_GB/pd/productID.5410143700/categoryID.4983643900/parentCategoryID.71078900
A lot of veg snacks. I like it 😊
Can you please do a video about interview questions and answers, more like the hiring process
Good idea, will add to the list
looks surprisingly similar to the vancouver SAP office
0.0 interesting
Like deserved just for mentioning Doctor Vox's Frontier!
haha thanks :)
Dude, im so jealous of you. i really want to be a web developer in one of English speaking countries. There's still a lot more to go through to come true that.
You can defo make it, most companies accept remote devs now.
@@Rayscafes What is that mean "Reote Dev"?
@@yousifsuleiman7613 Remote Dev means you can work from home or anywhere outside of an office :)
@@Rayscafes Anywhere! means if in another countries? from that company??
@@yousifsuleiman7613 yup thats right
Hello, maybe it's too late, but would you know what the model of the dual monitor support is?
Day in life of software engineer:
30% coding
70% showing off food
Hehe
what time do you return to house? , how hours aproximidiality do you work? i like the city london and i love england , i hope that one day can move !
Interesting video. Your music was too loud compared to your voice at times, making it hard to hear what you were saying.
Thanks, will be better in the next one :p
Yo, do other developers exist in London? Or do you just like own the whole office and pretend to be a different developer every day? Shoutouts to Dave.
Cool. Keep it up!
Thank you 😊
Anime fan, a tennis racquet and you love peanut sweets... are you myself from the future? (?) akhsdj
Haha, thanks Levi from attack on titans
Umm was that a GIANT wheel of cheese they were tossing the noodles in ?!?! Where have you been all my life !?@? Lol
Yup, giant Parmesan 😋
Nice work! You guys are not working from home?
Thanks :) we have that option, yup
I love this video, can you tell me what kind of stuff you have to code in ur job ?
Thanks :) Websites, so mainly building new webpages and widgets, as well as, API work to get the data for them
Have you switched from php ?
On very first videos you were using phpstorm :) now it's vscode :)
Nope 😆 just when I do frontend using Vue.js, i use vscode but if its backend using PHP, i use phpstorm :)
Yuno!!! Asta!!!!
:D
So you also are a fan of black clover ! Nice video !
Yup, the new arc is getting good, thanks!
Nice video
Are there working as a web developers too ? I mean in your office
Appart please can you tell me how's the scope of Web developers in UK .
thanks
Why using mac when you even don't like the keyboard?
I am using a mac keyboard
Loool! I'm a software developer in Uruguay, i like your background of blackclover
Awesome, yah, i need to update it soon to a later arc
How much do you make as a software engineer in UK ?
Average in London is 50k
0:17 A can of Polish beer. Poznan - Poland. RESPECT! :-)
We have an office in Warsaw :D
Bro, Bit of advice. Maybe look into how to do the voiceovers tutorial or something the audio of your voice isn't clear and you should use a de-esser.
Cheers, will get an actual microphone
Does your company provide Herman Miller chairs? That's nice
Yup, lucky :)
What’s your salary as a software engineer in London ?
Very well stuffed kitchen. Nice dual 4k(?) monitors. Well kids, in reality, this is not the true life of most software developers. Rarely do these videos show you the stress when the deadline is right around the corner and shit needs to get done asap
Yup, 4k, but not when working from home. But is not that the same with other jobs too? I rarely stress because i have a good team
@@Rayscafes Some places I worked before had very tight budget. Those places didn't even have single 4k monitor to work with. Kitchen consisted of a few fruits and just milk. During new release deadlines, it was very stressful as Agile practices were not followed and production releases were once a month rather than small incremental releases daily.
The music is way too loud. Its not supposed to be in the forefront like this so we can barely hear you.
My bad!
Lower the music... sound isnt balanced at all
"Plant-based" is that kind of like vegetarian?
Keep going
thanks :)
pretty cool
thanks :D
Hi
Is software engineering the same as computer science degree? I’m hoping to follow a Computer science degree .
Thanks
Hey, software engineering is a module within computer science degree 👍🏼
Hey! I'm still a high school student who really wants to be a software engineer, cuz I love computers! I really want to know what subjects should I be doing at school?
Hello, thats cool, I studied Computer Science at uni, but any related major should do, e.g. Maths or Engineering. However, most of what you learn in education is not really applied to a real software engineer job.
Cool office! What anime was that on the desktop?
Thanks! It's black clover
What are the steps to be a programmer and software engineer ? Please tell me. I am in 11th standard.
There are no specific steps, because I know software engineers who studied other majors, but decided to get into programming. You would just need to be passionate about building software and willing to learn. I just happened to liked technology from a young age so decided to study Computer Science at uni before becoming a software engineer.
@@Rayscafes Sure Thankyou.
I like the voice over
Thank you xD
Which company provides a chair like that ? Isn’t that a Herman Miller ?
Yah its herman miller 😆
The only critique I have is the music it is a bit loud. Don't want to be mean just saying
No worries, yah i think so too 😊
You can Show your screen
Too personal 😆
black clover wohooo
How do you place your keyboard on top of your laptop without it pressing against the laptop keys?
Ninja skills ;) Kidding, i just type lightly as a feather
Why do you have a single keyboard on the keyboard of your laptop
It is a more comfortable keyboard as the laptop one is too flat and low 😆
really liked the work space , what is the name of this company and which langs you are using as full stack developer ? ans will be appreciated ...Thanks
Thank you :) currently using JS with Vuejs + Nuxtjs frameworks, and PHP with Laravel for backend
@@Rayscafes great , i am also full stack developer using .net core for BackEnd Api's | vue js , Angular for front End | SQL + PgSql for database
@@AsimAli-pr6tv awesome, why a split between vuejs and angular
@@Rayscafes actually i have commond on both but it depends on company that which framework they are using like the company i am currently working have two teams , one is laravel team and one is .net so they uses vue js for front end thats why i am working in vue here otherwiser mostly companies who works in .net user Angular however vue is good with laravel
@@AsimAli-pr6tv Thats cool, we are using Vue with Laravel too
what is your salary?
good video
thank you :D
What is name of the company you working in
When did you leave for home on that day? Just curious
around 17:00
THe chairs aree dope but i'd rather get an ULTRAWIDE 38 inch screen which makes ure work much easier i hateee having to switch between monitors or using alt tab key D: lol
True, thinking of getting one for my home setup
@@Rayscafes imagine getting one of those at work 😫😫
Do you need a cs degree to be a high paid software engineer? I have a bachelor degree in economics, but currently i'm studying different programming languages
Nope, even if you get a cs degree or not, as long as you have the desire to study and improve everyday in any programming language, then you start off as the same: associate/junior engineer
Black Clover
Yesss, new episode today
I have 2 question?
1.Is graduation of information system can do master in data science ?
2. Salary of data science engineer?
Hello, yup it is related so can apply to do master in data science. Not sure about data science engineer salaries.
@@Rayscafes thank you so much
Due, get a case for that laptop, you're gonna end up scratching it if you keep carrying it like that in your bag.
Thanks :) yah, i got one recently from amazon
@@Rayscafes awesome!
I also love to see other developer life in other country, even I'm a developer!
Can I ask you some questions?I'm planning to move to live in UK. just want to know is it easy to get a job for asian developers with 10+ exp (NO WORK EXP IN UK) is it possible to apply job from overseas? and have interview via phone or skype? Any of your colleagues are from other country? thx!
Of course, yup, it will defo be easy with 10+ years experience. I know a few colleagues/friends who are from other countries that joined companies in London. Yup, process is usually:
- CV review
- Tech test + sometimes personality ones.
- Phone interview with someone from HR or a dev manager.
- Then final one is usually reviewing your tech test and an interview.
if you don't agree free snacks are the best thing in the world, I think we can't be friends
Agreed haha, especially healthy ones
why did you connect that laptop with that usb? please reply
To connect to the monitors :)
Nice wallpaper. My tech lead came talk to me to remove my moe anime girl wallpaper and he said it brings negative impression to clients.
Thanks, wow really. I don't share my computer with clients, so its okay xD
Does he use a mouse or only touchpad? :)
Mouse :)
which using software language ?
JavaScript and PHP mainly, hopefully we can switch to TypeScript soon
@@Rayscafes using for web site ?
What's the average salary, bro? And How long do you have to work for?
In London, 35-45k for mid levels but it varies depending on the company. I work 7-8 hours per day.
@@Rayscafes What qualification do you need?
@@taranjeetsingh1520 you just need to be experienced at a main programming language, I know colleagues who did bootcamps or are self taught rather than getting a comp sci degree
@Kay Flip wow that is a lot! But what is the living cost / tax there
@@Rayscafes That's including compensation and bonus for a company in the Bay Area. Not really a fair comparison to London.
What techstach you using?
Laravel - PHP for backend, Nuxt.js - Vue for frontend and AWS for infrastructure.
@@Rayscafes My favourite stack! 💝
4:20 Use a proper keyboard like Gigabyte k83.
i would but not for mac xD
What language stack are you using on your job?
Currently its Vuejs, Nuxtjs, Laravel + the usual AWS, Jenkins for CICD, a CDN service, etc
