They delivered! They made such a great game. It's my favourite beat 'em up ever and one of my all time favourites, it's so damn good! Bravo!
It's a testament to how well this game is designed that I picked it up and instantly knew what the controls were. All of my muscle memory came flooding back from playing the old games and I could tell that the developers approached this project as fans, which makes all the difference. I love the new art style, the soundtrack is kickass, the combat is just as satisfying and solid as SOR2 and all of the new abilities, special moves and easter eggs are so much fun. Cheers guys, you made this old fan very happy! :D
Imagine these guys make a Golden Axe 4 with this kind of attention to detail. OMG I just hyped myself with something that doesn't even exist! Hope this game is successful and they can work on more SEGA titles!

@@andreatoppi5627 That was a month ago and since then there is news of the retro characters which to me is a step in the right direction. The new style of characters they came up with is definitely not feeling like the same vibe so I'm glad at least they added the retro stuff. I don't like all of the lines drawn on the characters. I wish they would have honored the old box art style with characters that looked more realistic. I just expected better is all.

The character and background art is incredible, and not only that but I have to give huge congrats for not making it politically correct filtered. Guys are strong, girls are attractive, and all are very cool. I can't believe something so cool is being made, 99% of all remasters and resurrections of old games don't understand the style and are not talented. You made something incredible, thank you!

Game is gorgeous, it brought back one of my ALL TIME favorite series, and it's an extremely fun and natural feeling progression of game mechanics and lore. Having a custom arcade cabinet built using the art and i expect it to look stunning.
Yall are bringing out a PROPER Turtles game after decades of garbage, all you need to do now is pull a hat trick with Golden Axe. Which is kind of funny because that would make THREE side scrolling beatemup games you guys rescued from the jaws of horrible 3D attempts at the genre.

Music, music...and again...music! Soundtracks in the game should introduce the player in a state of relaxation and buzz, as happened during the game in the 1st and 2nd parts. Great attention must be paid to music!!!
@kay doyle Streets of Rage itself is the testament, no need to go out to other realms. To this day it is one of the best 16-bit games in gameplay, aesthetics AND soundtrack.

It does look like a french game. It isn't bad but it certainly doesn't look japanese. In order to have a japanese look, the characters have to be thinner and the animations can't have the bubbly movements they are being given when moving.

I hope the composers are inspired by music from 1 and 2 parts of the game. It is very important to create music with an eye on the first two parts. Music is half the success of Streets of Rage series!
If you're on about parts as in games, then there's three games. Also, it's Streets of Rage, not Streets of Fury.

@@PsychoGoldVideos well actually its an ensemble of several composers...the originals (Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima) are there but others too...i'd expect quite a varied soundtrack stylistically this time around
@@PsychoGoldVideos, well, firstly, the fact that Koshiro took the helm can not but rejoice! But, for example, I don’t like all the music that sounds in the 3rd part. For me she is too depressed. I consider the standard 1 and 2 parts of the game in terms of sound. Secondly, what we have already heard on the gameplay video of level 1 and 6 Street of Rage 4 sounds somehow ambiguous.

Uttam A I think that they also need to fix issues. I’m going to put something up that everyone feels: Combo Breaks & Rage Quits.
Not combo breaks due to stupidity (although it would be funny, maybe), but combo breaks that relate to lag, glitches, unusual game behaviour, punches that do not connect but ruin combos, combo breaks when you use defensive special, enemies avoiding Blaze’s somersault despite being ON her & then retaliating with that Galsia jab that we all despise. This game is a masterpiece, however. People who play Call of Duty & mainstream games that aren’t as good need to recognise. Keep up the good work Dotemu, despite some issues.
Totally agree hopefully they fix these issues.

I would really like to see Koshiro inspired by his music written for parts 1 and 2 of the series. Experiments with soundtracks for the game are dangerous. The 80s era is the best source for inspiration.
Hope Koshiro knows about Synthwave / Retrowave, it's the evolution of 80s and video game music.

What an amazing accomplishment! So much attention to detail to all aspects, visual, music, gameplay.... I haven't even started to play and already I'm amazed by the dedication shown by this team by just watching the developer / designer diaries.... So happy they cared about the music...that was the best part of the original games...and the 4 player co-op.....OMG.....you guys nailed it...completely!
the art is so good I had to search and find out who illustrated it. Seems like they really put their hearts and souls (and talent) into it!

The little details would count.
Dotemu, if you read this, please consider the following little things for Streets of Rage 4:
1) BGM / SFX / Voice Sound test in the Sound options, just like the original games. Having a numbered list of sound effects, voices and music to select from the same way we selected them on the Genesis.
2) When we get to the main menu, after a time, there should be a small 'demo' playing on its own just like many games were doing during the 8-bit and 16-bit era (and in Arcades as well). If the main menu is not interacted with for maybe 20 or 30 seconds, it should start a small gameplay that is being played by A.I. or maybe was recorded by someone in the studio for this purpose. It would play automatically and would be immediately canceled whenever a button would be pressed to get back to the main menu.

Streets of Rage is better name in my opinion. Just like Resident Evil is a better name than Biohazard
While we can expect the music in SoR4 to echo the old games, what impressed me when playing SoR1 and 2 is how contemporary the soundtracks were, for video games. They pulled from cutting-edge club and new age music. I'd like SoR4 to draw from the past but also be inspired by modern sounds, to groove and rock to but also return to the bleeding edge.
There are no good songs past the 90's, just autotuned crap and comercial music meant to sell, not to please the ears.

I agree, the original songs went for a street sound which was basically house music and underground house/techno. If you think about it though some of the songs were really out of context to what was going on (the music for the jungle in streets of rage 2) so even though the music in sor2 is amazing, for some levels i like to think that each can be enjoyed equally seperately as well as both together. if that makes sense.
so playing the first level song should remind you of the first level, and then playing the first level without music should make you hear the song in your head.
So its important to have songs that sound great and can be listened to on repeat. i feel anything with a mumble rap or dubstep feel can be a bit too much. its gotta be just right but can be an all new style to reflect today.
The music from Sor1 and 2 got me into house/techno/electronic etc. I'm sure It created a deep following to house music that was underground.

Streets of rage ts my first experience in beat`em up games, in 16bits beat`em ups, and i love this series, fourth game - its awesome! I very love this series and Im happy that you ressurect original game exp. and characters in this game, with love from russian gamers community!

I really love the passion reflected in these mini documentary on the making of this game. This isn't some arbitrary cash in like Sonic 4, This is a love letter for the original game and a mark of respect for the vision the original creators of SoR had for the series.
Sonic 4 is a disgrace!
Hope you didn't forget about the masked ninjas (The guys having swords, jumping around, kicking and sweeping), those were the coolest enemies to me and I'm pretty afraid for them since I haven't seen a single one in all the gameplays available.

i'm a great fan of SoR and im so excited for it!
the only thing that concerns me is that i barely see influences from 3rd game, i know that 2 is the best game for almost all SoR fanbase (not for me, 1st game will be always be the better for me, but i agree infact 2nd game is way superior), and its normal that it will influence you guys more, but please, don't forget 3rd game elements, we all should agree that it's the best game gameplay wise, and we need to have that in 4 too, things like run, roll with i-frame, blitz attacks, etc. it will make the game way more dynamic.
That's right! I would say that the 3rd part is a modified 2nd (in terms of gameplay). But the music in the 3rd didn’t come out very well. The musical accompaniment standard is the 1st and 2nd parts of the game series.
I disagree, I think that SoR2 was the sweet spot in terms of gameplay. The fact that every character could roll/run in SoR3 meant you played every character the same.
I agree with op. Running and rolling is needed in this game. Just because SOR2 is everyone's favourite doesn't mean you just ignore what SOR3 brought to the table.

Le stage 8 de l'original avait ce coté en phase avec l'univers avec l'aube qui progressait. J'espère que les sounds fx des coups seront plus brutaux et percutants que ce ceux qu'on entend jusqu'à maintenant, j'insiste lourdement la dessus mais c'est vraiment essentiel pour ceux qui vivent le jeu à fonds.Le look des persos est excellent je trouve. La chemise à carreaux d'Axel , pure symbolique d'une époque fin 80 début 90.

That Adam air combo was amazing! I love how the original three characters each pay homage to a specific Street Fighter technique. Adam has a Hurricane Kick, Axel's is the Dragon Punch and Blaze has a Kikouken! I also commend the developers on the vibrant visuals and the use of instruction manuals for inspiration, very nostalgic!
Hi! Which software did you use to make animation frames with? Did you just draw them in Photoshop, using layers? Or did you use a 2D animation software of some type? Do you draw characters using vectors, or straight rasterized paintings? Thanks! Love your game!
