The wait is over! Streets of Rage 4 is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One for $24,99!
Dotemu, Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games are honored to announce Olivier Derivière, the talent behind soundtracks for A Plague Tale: Innocence, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Dying Light 2 and more, is serving as Streets of Rage 4’s main composer with support from an roster of international guest musicians. Streets of Rage 4 will also include new contributions from Scattle (Hotline Miami 1 & 2), Das Mörtal (Hotline Miami 2), XL Middleton, and Groundislava.
Derivière’s musical vision echoes the philosophy at the heart of Streets of Rage 4: infusing the timeless, classic elements of the original Streets of Rage games with a modern approach to gameplay, art and design, channeling the nostalgic glory of the genre-defining beat-em-ups through the music of series composers Yūzō Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, along with featured Japanese composers, while instilling a unique spirit throughout Streets of Rage 4 via Western artists and Derivière’s sonic creations.
In celebration of today’s announcement, four tracks from Streets of Rage 4’s soundtrack courtesy of Olivier Derivière, Das Mörtal, and Groundislava are now streamable on Dotemu's Soundcloud: / dotemu-games
Streets of Rage 4 is scheduled to launch this spring on PC, PS4, XB1 and Switch. For more on Streets of Rage 4, visit www.streets4rage.com, check out StreetsofRage4, juggle @Dotemu, @Lizardcube, and @Guard_Crush’s follow buttons on Twitter, or join us on Discord: / discord

Everyone who has played the game knows how good the music is.
I still listen to it in the car.
lol the music in this game is awful compared to classic Streets of Rage soundtrack. he did a terrible job.
@@acct4600 There always has to be one
@@AllenJohn yep. there's always that one person who says the truth, while everyone just lies & "says something nice" just to make someone or themselves feel good. i'm the friend that tells my drug addict friend that he's messing up & needs to get his life together, even though he doesn't want to hear it. everyone else in this comments section are the friends that say "everythings fine" or they stay quiet when that friend is one hit away from overdosing... thats what this comments section is like smh.
@@acct4600 You seem unaware that your words has no relevance to the music of the game. What you say is the "truth", it is just a mere opinion. If you didn't like the music, then what you should done is to upload your comment that states that you didn't like the music as a standalone rather as an reply to me/them. And if you can elaborate on why you disliked the music, you can share your criticism in a manner that makes sense to the creator as he might improve on his next musical game score. It might even show the rest of us what you perceived, and depending on your explanation, it may broaden our experience.
Regarding the topic your drug addict friend and how you would respond to him/her, 🤨I don't know why you shared that information as I didn't ask to know your better. But if it is "talk" all you have and are not going to intervene, pay for his de-addiction or rehab, then you are just a 'pile on' to the already existing problems of your drug addict friend.
In most cases, these "truths" are not enough, it does more harm than good if the "truth" is told without tact and polish. Words of truth or words of 'matter of fact' are cheap, dime a dozen.
Trying to live up to SOR2's soundtrack must be nerve-wracking.
Not to forget the first one, both are epic
ALL HEAT!!
trying to live up to it with garbage dubstep is even better
Victor Crazy that! Is an opinion that you are having
@@kungfuenthusiasm6592 THAT is a FACT.. DUBSTEP IS HOT GARBAGE!!!!
Saying that your "Scared" of the outcome gives me hope that you showed care and it will be great.
The sound is both futuristic and funky and the same time. Sounds great. Can't wait to get my copy.
It's not 'black' funky like the original games tho. Lol.
Agree - I didn't detect any overpowering ego coming from this team. I think the effort and passion are there, as well as the composers from the past games. Super stoked.
@@RetroMix-Revival It was most of the 90's dance music and even some reggae beats like the beach music in stages 5 and 6 in sor2
. Not that dubsteb stuff.
Of course he's scared. That's a lot of pressure on this man. Fans are gonna jump on him if it's even remotely weak in any area. That's why they taking long with this game. They really have to get right.
I'm glad you guys brought Yuzo in. Even in a small capacity. Not a lot of developers out there would've made the effort.
True, but it’s still cool that they got him for this one.
I'm also glad that Yuzo believed in their project enough to be a part of it, too.
If Yuzo hadn't been part of this OST, I would have skipped this game
@@teddybeer6206 You got a good point. It's like why wouldn't you.
I have returned to this video after playing SOR4. You can rest well Olivier, knowing you did amazing.
rest well? is he dead?
"I wanted to feel again what drove me at the time..." 💖
King Overseas love that line
That's passion in its rawest form right there
I almost shed a tear when he said that!
I have a feeling this soundtrack will divide people, and I cannot wait for it! Yuzo has used the hardware and instruments of the time for his tracks before fleshing out the song for SOR4, so I imagine he has the more classic sounding music the fans will love more. Same for Kawashima.. Olivier has changed the sound, but kept an element of the original style in 1, 2 and 3. It needs to feel right in the game to know if its right for the game. Personally, I am hoping for a fusion of both retro and modern sounds like Sonic Mania did.
Hay legend I agree we have to just wait n see......
So cool to see a comment from you about this.
Yessssss I agree. Like Ducktales remastered, have the original but include the retro classic
Hey are you in the discord? They have a channel dedicated to discussing music and there is a channel you can share your amazing videos on

You guys blew the shit out the water the music was sick af and I respect you guys so much for living up to the pressure of having to create a soundtrack that lived up to the expectations
No need to be afraid anymore. You lived up to it. Amazing soundtrack!
no.
@@acct4600 yes
@@TonyJenn absolutely not.
*Mr. Deriviere is such a humble guy! The whole OST is amazing! You've done an excellent job no one can complain of! Thanks!*
It's clear you guys respect the source material. That'll take you a long way.
Whatever happens, you already have my purchase.
The details, the melody, the fade out, the intensity part of climax in the storm stage. Oh my god. Guys u got my money. Thank u por give me this goosebumps.
That’s my favourite tune so far. Although the first one that plays during this video is pretty dope.
Music for this game is phenomenal, you should be proud. I went in expecting something like hotline miami but was pleasantly surprised with the more modern take with retro touches. Also the mix of styles means it never gets boring. As explained in the video the relative intensity of tracks matching the gameplay is well executed.
The music that sounds while Yuzo is speaking is ultraepic.
Gazpaviles it’s funky but definitely not epic.
That's the character select and stage results theme. It was composed by Koshiro himself.
Clearly a lot of thought and effort has been put into this, I hope this all meshes well together, if not it's going to be a mess. This game lives and dies on its soundtrack. Fingers crossed.
yup, the music can make or break this game, just like SOR3
Lots of composers vs one person with a vision... it’ll go one of two ways 🤞
Stefan Watson 3 has excellent music
@@robertbektas1810 All of 3's good tracks were composed by Kawashima or remixes of songs from 2. As much as I love Koshiro, he used an "automated sequence generator" for SoR3. A computer program fabricated musical sequences and Koshiro stitched together the sections that sounded good. It's an artificial way of trying to streamline the creative process. Machines don't make for good artists.
To be honest:
should stay to more end 80s - early 90s acid house/techno like the originals. Preferably with their old drumkits (808 and 909).
I know that you want to please everyone but it is actually THE SoR signature music for the game and it doesn't matter in which time you release this...'cause it should feel timeless.
Think it about that: it would be a way to keep the old rave genre alive and pay hommage to it.
Anyways - it is definitely hard to find a compromise and kudos to every work that will be released!
Yeah. Years on and this SOR4 soundtrack is completely forgettable.. no soul, funk or edgy techno... it would have been better if they got music in from the hard-core youtube SOR remixers, Such as Video Game DJ (VGDJ) and IceFerno or even brought in Real Underground Techno artists.
I'm a simple man, i see Yuzo Koshiro i press like :/
It already sounds phenomenal and truly happy that the composer is an actual fan who was waiting for the sequel :D Loving it already and best of luck!!!
I can tell this soundtrack is going to be sick. From what I've heard already its really sounding pretty epic.
I'm also hoping that there are more melodic tunes, like in Sor 2. What I've heard so far, in all of the SOR4 videos, sounds like Dubstep...and that will get old by level 2.
Agreed.
I personally despise dubstep..
Agree, melodic tunes now!
Fully agreed!!
Fine with it as long as it's used as introduction to the 1st level only. I just hope it doesn't run like a common thread through the entirety of all levels. I know this must be tempting because by simply doubling the tempo you would get a fitting DnB boss theme. I'd be disappointed if they were going down the easy route, because there's so much diversity in electronic music that there's quite a palette of genres that would all be fitting this game perfectly.
Yes need the jazzy melodic music from SOR 1 yuzo was heavily influence by Soul II Soul and Maxi priest. Go listen to those artist and you will hear SoR... unfortunately music today is trash so I would use today's musicians or pop music scene for inspiration
This composer is the bravest man in the industry because I wouldnt had taken this gig. This soundtrack can't even be less than stellar for even one track. The fans expectations are so high, it is crippling. I would have let Koshiro do the whole thing and just assisted him on the mixing and stuff. If this soundtrack is even remotely weak in any way, the fans never gonna let that man sleep quietly. Gamers can be a bitchy bunch. We don't wanna admit it but it's the truth. So far, from what I heard, it's turning out really good.
You speak the most truth out of anyone here, I'm a bit sketchy with the dubstep tbh, so as long it's on every level. That's not to say I hate Dubstep, tbh, i think it sounds pretty good so far so I'm a little hopeful to hear the rest of the music to come out.
Really great job! The compositions and the way they have been placed in game are awesome! I love it! Thanks to all the team for making this excellent Streets of rage 4!
Everyone did a fantastic job with this soundtrack. Definitely a soundtrack I myself will be learning from. Congratulations on such a fine game and a new all time favorite 😁😁😁
After watching this interview and hearing some of the samples, I'm having so much more faith in this entire project. I can't believe this is releasing very soon. You all worked very hard on this project, and it shows. Congrats and I hope this does well enough for a Streets of Rage 4.5 or even 5! =)
yall knocked it out of the fucking park. such an incredible game top to bottom
10:30 Ok... you *definitely* won me there, sir.
These guys for sure have love for this timeless franchise's legacy.
Yuzo must at the very least -
- Do the intro theme
- Do the first stage theme
- Do the last stage theme
- Do the ending theme
I mean granted I would LOVE him to have done it all but I think at least getting these parts to himself would really enhance the classic connection and give him the honour of opening and closing this release. Still I cannot wait to hear (and play) the results.
Also if anyone is interested there is an Axel SOR4 ver figure being made. No doubt Blaze will see a release too. It's a good time to be a SOR fan =)
Figures for the "ultimate tricked out edition of the game"??
@@LeeONardo thanks! Release date? And where to buy from online?
@@ThaBossDjFes Not sure yet, either keep checking the website news.toyark.com/ for news or www.stormco.com.hk/ for the company itself.
According to Oliver, Yuzo is doing the main theme, first area of stage 1, Character select theme, and a few bosses. Hopefully he'll do the ending theme too.
@@LeeONardo thanks!
Just wanna say, its been 3 years since I havent played the game, but wanted to say that the sound track, as you all know, is one of the most banging ever! soooooo good!
I really hope whatever this Limited Edition that Limited Games Run is talking about comes with a full soundtrack for this game.
That would have been nice, it doesn't though. Just a Genesis style case & a Steelbook case
@@StarDragonJP That's the classic edition. Limited Games Run announced they will release a tricked out Limited Edition but they didn't say what will that include yet. I'm hoping that it will include a soundtrack.
@@StarDragonJP There's going to be third release by them. So we'll have the standard, classic and limited versions of the game.
Limited Run Games no, please... Their print production are... well... "limited". It will not meet the high demand. Let the production to a publisher who can make the production to meet a big demand, like Nicalis for example, who also published Lizardcube / Dotemu's Wonderboy: The Dragon's Trap.
I gotta tell you. Out of the 4 tracks uploaded; I love 3 of them and the music playing of this video and the Loyd Trailer is amazing. I absolutely love Funky HQ. You guys absolutely nailed it!
I just listened to the tracks on Soundcloud. To be honest, at first I didn't like any of them. Only the track by Motohiro Kawashima, which was uploaded 6 months ago, sounds like SOR music. However, I tried to listen to the four new tracks again, and they actually grew on me. "A Ki Ra" makes me think of "Alien Power" from SOR 2. "Next of Kin Showdown" is epic. "Funky HQ" sounds like the new/modern "In The Bar" music. I understand that time has changed and the music should change for the better too. After all, even old SOR tracks were influenced by contemporary music from their era.
Thanks for your hard work, Oliver and everybody else working on this game! I am sure I will enjoy it when it comes out!
I only found maybe 3 songs to be.. okay at best..
Know the name of the song at 11:58 and where i can find to listen, s'il vous plait?
@@Ri.DoBravaDo The whole track is not out yet. But it is featured in this video: ua-cam.com/video/TPKInEthHP8/v-deo.html
I absolutely HATED the first half minute of Funky HQ... but around 1:30 it just evolved into something fantastic. Really, really great stuff.
@@SuperHydroThunder this lol
Thanks for the effort in making this the best game of the series! The details and everything
Olivier you absolutely nailed it. While playing I listened to the retro tracks for the sake of nostalgia once or twice but yours fit perfectly the more modern atmosphere. I've been enjoying it for 4 years now.
I see the 2 bosses in this video are just like ordinary enemies in the previous series.
You guys NAILED IT! Streets of Rage is one my musical influences as a producer. Awesome job!! loved the game !
I would show my Spotify or UA-cam playlist to Yuzo Koshiro anytime. Add alittle bit of: some soul, some late 80's club + hip-hop, some rave, some old skool piano / hardcore, some house, and a hint of of jazz and salsa. And voila. Yuzoboy's got some influences, too.
I can see Olivier is a true fan. From what I heard, the music will not disappoint. Love the "dynamic" change in music with the onscreen action.
I think the dynamic music will be a great way if modernizing the music. And leaving boss music to guest composers is a dope idea. Now everyone gets a theme!
All I want is to hear Hideki Naganuma's music for this game.
Source please?
@@VJ-ux5gb DAMMIT!!! Was really looking forward to some JSR flavour to the soundtrack :(
So Naganuma can do sound tracks for indie games yet not for SOR4 ? lol
Really disappointed that they announced him and they couldn't keep him
@@gc3k Due to schedule complication, Hideki Naganuma decided to retire from this project and give opportunity to someone else to work on SOR4 OST.
The music was already good, but when they had "streets of rage flavour" to the track. It went fire. Good job
Listening to the Soundcloud tracks.
The Kawashima track is so instantly Streets of Rage from the drop its not even funny.
Haven't listened to any of the tracks but I'm really interested to hear what Kawashima has done. Such an inventive talent that never got the credit he deserved.

Thank you. I can’t wait for this game. So far the tracks that I’ve heard are fantastic. This game is truly turning out to be better than expect. 👍🏻
The thing is that Yuzo went to clubs at the time, came home and made something that sounded like he was at the club. It wasn't just the fact it was house music or something, but it was the very fact that those people playing house music in those clubs didn't even crown it House music until The Warehouse here in Chicago.
You want to make something authentic? You can pay homage to Yuzo all ya want, but pay homage to what he paid homage to. That's definitely a lot to live up to.
Just make real house music with melodies and jazzy vibes and hard bass line grooves. Add some videos here and there and you got a hit . This soundtrack is a fail for me
@@XTRABIGfm synthesis ain't easy making sounds its not that simple

Thank you so much for the amazing job, I really loved this new chapter! After playing the first one long time ago as a kid, I was astonished to play this new one. Really really great job, thanks for making it with such passion, we played it with the same passion enjoying every minute, every design choice and every small detail of it. Looking forward SOR5! 😁
All the best!

My god, I am so hyped for this. The passion put into this looks extraordinary.
Everyone has done a brilliant job on the OST, Thank you Olivier, and thank you Yuzo!!
After beating the game I can say will done Olivier , ur music stick in my mind flawless score 👌🏼
Just heard the tracks on soundcloud.
SOR music have always been about melody and feeling, and these tacks fall very very short on those departments, except maybe for the “Dj K-Washi” one, which doesn’t have the melody but nails the feeling. All the others sound very bland, trying to sound “different”, too complicated, with no real substance or feeling.
Street of Rage games were and still are a big part of my life and an inspiration as a musician, so i’m really sorry to say, i’m very dissapointed with the music so far.
Damn I'm afraid to even go check it out now. I'm already disappointed with the graphics style but hoped having some classic music would balance things out. Hopefully this game doesn't become a hard pass for me, SORR is still the best game so far

too much of a good thing there. You almost make me want to live in 2020's. Thanks guys. I am grateful
I just heard the selection of tracks you guys have on SoundCloud and it has me very excited to hear the complete OST. It sounds great so far!
I want to take this time to shout out the BOMBERGAMES team who years ago, developed STREETS OF RAGE REMAKE. It's one of the greatest games ever made, as well as one of the most important homages to Streets of Rage. The musicians who did the soundtrack, recreated/reinterpreted the entire series' soundtrack to perfection. They deserve props because I see the Streets Of Rage 4 dev team with that same passion and dedication.

Awesome work all team, im very excited, thanks.
These guys are pouring in so much passion for this game. I hope it does well.
Man, I can't wait for this game. Looking awesome, keep it up guys.
This was nice to see, and hear. It's a this attention to detail that makes me feel those SoR vibes.
The music is catchy and all mess too!
I'm all in for this OST! It can't be bad with this all-star cast of producers
The melody starting at 9.20 is amazing... Almost like this game's "slow moon".. From so2
pfft that doesn't sound anything like Slow Moon. Thats fucking dubstep.
I remember the Rozalla album from the 90s every body's free, (the whole album, not just the one song) that music without the song /lyrics, i always feelt that it would be perfect for a streets of rage game.
Rozalla was great, but listen the instrumental of this song, its perfect for a SOR4 stage: m.ua-cam.com/video/gaEznUOdnEE/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/kD6-ch2mNx4/v-deo.html. I'd take a stage of this. Dark keys
My first playthrough was on Normal, and I was so focused on watching my health and lives that I wasn’t really paying attention to the music. My second playthrough was on Easy, and since I had more leeway with health I could soak in the aesthetics, and able to hear the way the music shifts as you progress through the level. And oh man, does this game’s music get me pumping. I’m continually replaying stages just to hear the music (Stage 4’s is my favorite). It’s difficult for me to divorce myself from my nostalgic love for the first game’s soundtrack, but the fact that I bought SoR 4’s soundtrack and am listening to it while doing things like chores is a testament to its quality.
I just got goosebumps at this little sample of the songs. it is one of the most important games of my childhood and that I play until today ... I am very anxious with the launch and how excellent the music is ... congratulations to all involved.
Honestly whatever started playing at 3:13, I was feeling that and would not mind it for some sort of tropical setting.
THANK YOU!!! RISING UP ELEVATOR STAGE IS SO DOPE!
Thanks for the great music in this game!
The soundtrack from this game are awesome. Specially the song from menu (I love that lead). 💯
It's sounding great, guys. You're kicking butt! I would say, don't worry about having the music fit every aspect of what is happening on screen at a given moment. Simply have a rock solid melody for each stage, with each stage also fitting an overall unifying sound (perhaps by having a throughline of 1 or 2 instruments that always are there in every track).
YES! THANK YOU! As huge fan of the music from the "Streets of Rage series" (2 of course being God Tier), everything I heard so far sounds great. This is one of my top 5 most anticipated games of the year me, and I seriously can not wait to savor every inch of this game.
Olivier Deriviere should work with Yuzo Koshiro and Motorhiro Kawashima for Streets of Rage 5
Your studio has made something amazing with the music !!!! Gameplay is awesome . It’s definitely up there and IGN has no idea what it’s saying .
The music u showcased is AWESOME and on the same tier of this great game !!!!
Top top!
I see respect being given with a combination of being allowed to be creative. That's what I like to see!!! This is how it should be done.
what the!?!?! i thought Yuzo was composing it. kind of bummed out by this.
He is, just not as the main composer. But I agree, this video took me by surprise because I thought he would be the Lead Composer on this project. I still have hope it'll sound good, though.
Yuzo should have a least 25% of the game music
@@drewminati he has 14.28% of the music.
The best soundtrack I've ever heard. Thank you ❤
Holy shit that transition between music is so good
So looking forward to this aspect of the game. Koshiro-san's work was formative in my musical taste, and I'm excited to see what the Derivière has in store
Olivier seems like a great guy, and from playing A Plague Tale and Vampyr, I can also tell that he's a very talented composer. However, from looking at his previous resume of music, it doesn't exactly scream that he's a perfect guy to compose a Streets of Rage game. I mean, he's never composed music like this for a game before. At least to my knowledge. I'm sure he'll do great. I'm just a little confused as to why he's the main composer on the project.
Composers are capable of working on more than one genre of music.
@@bluespaceman7937 Never said they weren't. But Olivier has still yet to prove that he's the right guy to compose this game. Streets of Rage is legendary in large part thanks to It's music, so I want to make sure the right people are composing the OST.
Cannot be any more hyped for SoR4 as I am right now! As a lifelong fan of the games it has been a LOOONG time coming, but am so happy that it is finally nearly here! After seeing this video, I have every faith in these guys as composers to get the job done with the soundtrack, which I cannot wait to hear. The sheer respect they seem to have for the source material of the first three games is there, so the games is in good hands. Bring on SoR4!
I love how it's going so far. You at DotEmu seem very dedicated to gameplay, details, and even the lore of the series.
I hope the sound effects have some punchy "meat" to them as well. The CLANK of the pipe, the FWIP of the knife, the SLASH of the sword. Oh man, this will be a day 1 purchase for me.
Think it’s the best of both worlds, it sounds amazing from the clips on the vid, can’t wait! 👍🏻👍🏻 playing full blast
Awesome! Can’t wait to play this game in another year!
I'm so excited they worked with Groundislava! I have so much of his stuff on my Spotify. LOVE it.
Also, the Soundcloud tracks are freaking KILLER. They've done this right.
Soundtrack is amazing! Good job guys!
greats words from the composers! and i dont know why but when i see Yuzo Koshiro and he says the words "Bare Knuckle" makes me happy
Great insight and loved your enthusiasm BUT, I think using modern DAWs was a big mistake. IT would of been MUCH cooler (and better sounding) if you programmed the soundtrack to Streets of Rage 4 Entirely using FM Synthesis but this time not limited to 6 channels like the original games but with unlimited channels. That would of got fans REALLY excited for the soundtrack and i'm sure Yuzo, Motohiro Kawashima and the other old-school sound producers would of really done something special with it.
Another thing I'm worried about is the white=washing of the music. Remember: Streets of Rage has MASSIVE black funk and soul elements too., Slow-moon, The Last Soul, Dilapidated Town, Keep The Groovin such funk-filled and melodic tracks that lasts generations. Don't lose the funk. please.
Agreed. Where is the soul and funk? SOR melodies instantly stuck in your head but I've completely forgotten these new dubstep tosh already. Seriously, delay the game and get the original composers or a black musician who has been influenced by the seris. IT NEEDS FUNK.
I completely agree - I'm glad SOR is back - but I must admit - the music isn't doing it for me
@@shade221 Because with the SOR games it was mainly black composers Yuzo Koshiro was influenced by at the time. And no black composer on earth would ever touch Dupstep lol.
This is awesome, its a project of love and you guys will hit a home run.

It's a good and new concept that every boss has their own music but I prefer the idea that all the bosses have the same song like in the previous games, the beats were epic so was the moment to fight the boss. When you heard that song coming even before seeing the boss you were already hyped, I have sor2 in my mind now as example
NEVER RETURN ALIVE🔥
