The lead singer is Shashwat Singh. The double sided drum is called the dhol played with 2 wooden sticks and popular on various occasions e.g. Indian weddings, other functions etc. Apparently the song (15 takes, rehearsed all night) was sung and shot during the early hours of morning with the Bay of Bengal, sunrise to capture nature, and its sounds on the rooftop, and it was surreal for all the artists and musicians to witness and perform with the maestro AR Rahman. It is an amazing medley of 4 AR Rahman original tracks (Veere Kadh De, Rang De Basanti, Balleilakka and O Aashiqa) The other singers are :Benny Dayal, Shashaa Tirupati, Rakshita Suresh, Swagat Rathod, Sarthak Kalyani, Nirmika Singh. On the Keyboards: Nakul Abhyankar, Lavita Lobo ; Guitars: Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy (Director); Drums: Kumaran Sivamani; Dhol: Yash Pathak and the lead actor of the film 99 songs Ehan Bhat.
I'll recommend you guys to listen the compositions of Ajay-Atul.. they are absolutely very talented. One of their best song is Apsara aali. Please do listen!
9:25 The male singer name is Shashwat Singh, and he was singing the climax part of his song O Aashiqa from the movie 99 Songs, composed by AR Rahman. You should check out the full song. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. I got goosebumps every time I heard the song. Btw, 99 Songs is a musical film produced and written by AR Rahman himself. There are 12 songs and 2 musical pieces in the album. If you love watching musical films about the life journey of a singer or musician, I want to recommend 3 movies which music composed by AR Rahman that you need to watch: Taal, Rockstar, and 99 Songs. All these movies have great soundtracks.
Wholeheartedly agree, 99 songs is an incredible album, close to AR and his filmi baby. O aashiqa is just the beginning of a collection full of ‘typical’ ARR gems… to me the crowning glory is the last instrumental piece ‘The Oracle’. You should listen to it with headphones to get your socks blown off ( yet again) by his masterful unparalleled (in the world) versatility.
4:54, that's called DHOL, you'll hear it often in Punjabi music. The sticks are different from drumsticks, here one is thick for the bass and the other one is thin and flexible for the speed and variations.
Your reactions were so real......almost like 'kids in a candy store' reaction. Welcome to the world of Indian music ! We appreciate your comments and appreciation. More out there in the Candy Store !
When I first listened A.R. Raheman , I really became confused don't know if I like it or not because it's so unique and different what I used to listen Indian classical . But when I listen the same song 3rd time I just fall in love .
It's called dhol in Maharashtra and dholak in Panjab. In Maharashtra there is another instrument use with Dhol called Tasha almost every festival especially in Shivjayanti, Ganpati Visarjan and Durga Visarjan the local group, we called them 'Mandal' play these instruments. In Panjab especially every marriage it played. And I think in Gujarat also it's been playing. BTW in every state it played differently. You can explore, you will like it.
Not just in Maharashtra, in every north west central part of India it's called "Dhol" including Punjab (idk about the other parts of India). And Dholak is something different.
Thats called a dholak 😂 and its literally in every punjabi song it will make you dance like crazy..listen to any Punjabi song..thats how we party..and its used for dancing in ganesh festivals too .like we have bands that play dhol and we dance on the street in front of ganesh(a hindu god). Its mad.. watch any ganesh visarjan video on UA-cam
Hey Guys!.. Please react to "Adiye" song from kadal movie. It's a masterpiece. AR Rahman sir introduced another genre of world music to kollywood industry. It's a Gospel Blues setting. He also introduced a new singer Sid Sriram who has an addictive voice as u guys already reacted to him. I'm sure this song will blow your mind. Hope u guys react❣.
