  • Hey guys! We got some exciting news from our dealer today that I had to share! The TX (seemingly including the 550h+) is being allocated to dealers and will be inbound soon, so the wait is almost over for those of you who still have your names down!

      I am really thinking about a 2024 Taco Off Road if I can get it w manual and not jacked up price. But we’ll see when they come in.
      Honestly, all the tech they stuff into new cars and trucks don’t do much for me - although i concede the GX is a dream. Coming from driving an F150 for the past 12 years.

      I’ve done both F150 (2015 when the new 2.7L eco boost first came out) and Tacoma. Both tremendous cars and I would love to have a Raptor one day. But I personally don’t have a need for a truck on a regular basis and so I could just rent a trailer and hitch it up to one of our cars if I needed to haul. That said, I will forever be mad that I didn’t buy a base Maverick hybrid when they could be had for $19K

    great video. I think the dealer giving you first crack at getting the new TX has more to do with you being a valued customer, than a potential lack of demand. There is also absolutely no downside, and only an increased likelihood of a good outcome occurring, by them acting the way they are.

      Thank you! I’m guessing that’s what it is, it’s just interesting to me that they’d offer us that since they knew we had asked to be taken off the list. In any case, I completely agree and it’s why we love and will always return to our team at Lexus of Austin!

    Hi Josh - thanks so much for the update on the TX550h+. Your videos have definitely influenced my purchases. We were considering a RX350h and test drove one. Your crituque was on point and I agreed with all your comments. So we ended up not pursuing this purchase. Instead I got a Tesla Model Y which is the perfect around town car. We've driven it from Dallas to Austin but that will be the longest distance we drive - its just too rough, loud road noise, and I have range anxiety. That leaves me in the market for a "see all 50 states car". We just got back yesterday from a driving trip from Dallas to New Jersey to see relatives. In 2 weeks we put 3800 miles on our 2022 pilot. Our next long driving trip will be in the spring where we'll leave from Dallas and see many western states. I'm thinking the spring may be a great time to look at the TX550h+. I really want good gas mileage (at least 30+ mpg), quiet and smooth ride, and incredible drivers assist features. Do you think the TX550h+ has the best chance of meeting our requirements. Oh, and we need tons of space! Thanks so much, really look forward to your videos and congrats on the Prius!

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Рік тому

      Wow! What an epic road trip. We were just in Dallas for the State Fair, took the Prius and I have the same thought about it as your Model Y, LOL! It’s totally fine for short road tripping, maybe 5 hours or less, but the GX will be our “see all 50 states” road trip car as well! As for your question, I think the 550h+ will be a phenomenal car for that need. I might advise you test drive the Grand Highlander with the Hybrid Max powertrain just to see if it would be acceptable to you, as it will be significantly cheaper than the TX550h+ (which is seemingly going to be around $80-$85 versus $60 for a fully loaded GH). I say that since you already have a great around town car with the Model Y and I’m not sure if you’d really need another plug in. You might be able to save $20K and use that cash savings to blow on a big grand road trip (or two or three)!

    • @AndyCColeman
      @AndyCColeman Рік тому

      @@joshjamescars - thanks Josh for the reply - you are the best. We will definitely go to the State Fair also. we have a lot of flexibility so we will probably go during the week. Saving some money would be a good thing - as long as it meets our requirements. Worried about the quietness of the hybrid max since its 4 cylinder? I know a test drive will answer those questions, but would love to know your thoughts? I really like a quiet car on long trips and I know I'm asking a lot for good mpg along with quiet. 4 cyclinder turbo may be required but I suspect that will increase sound level. We averaged 27.6 mpg in our pilot for our 3800 mile cross country trip - v6 engine. I typically drive 5 over speed limit so I don't push the speed. But, will put it on the list to try out a grand highlander hybrid max. By the way , I got new wall plugs added 3 weeks ago when I bought the model Y. Got a tesla wall charger on one side and a Nema 14-50 plug on the other wall (to handle a plugin hybrid). So a plugin in the future would definitely work well.

    I was considering putting a deposit for the TX but then I saw the all thr RXs they have in inventory at Lexus dealers in my area, Silicon Valley, and decided to wait for when they hit the lots. I dont think tge 550h+ I'm looking for will be flying off the shelves.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Рік тому +2

      It seems like it might not which is really surprising to me! That’s the only TX I would buy, but… it will probably be quite expensive so I can understand there being less interest. I would say stay in touch with your dealer and let them come to you when there is some availability. That’s a car that I might also give a year to let them work through all the kinks and bugs at launch.

  • @ScottWorks4u
    @ScottWorks4u Рік тому

    So I was at the Lexus dealership today. The sales manager seemed to think the 550h it would likely be middle or late next year before it is available. If the RX plugin is going for 72k then seems to reason the TX plugin would go closer to 90k.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Рік тому

      It’s possible, but the media drive for the TX is being held here in Austin this week and the 550h+ is here. It’ll be interesting to see if it’s production or not. If it’s production, I think they could easily launch it in the next few months and since it’s a domestic product could begin to hit dealers by end of year. As for the price, it’s quite possible. My bet is it starts at $79 and goes to $85 or thereabouts with the packages that are available on it.

    Tbh though, the TX interior doesn’t scream luxury like Lexus used to. I hope they will fix that when it gets a refresh. Despite that, I think the 550h+ (actually used the same powertrain for Century SUV) will drive just as good as the 450h non-plug-in hybrid.

    I wonder if they were referring to a TX500h, and not a TX550h+
    I spoke to a very high volume Lexus dealer, I am first for the 550h+, and as of today he told me to expect the 350’s first next month. The 500’s after that, and the 550’s not until early 2024. Each dealer will get 1 550h+ allocation first.

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Рік тому

      My order with them was 550h+ or nothing, so I’m pretty sure that’s what they’re referring to. Now, a few things come into play here. First, the vehicle they’re talking about is what they’ve been allocated. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it were to get delayed by a few months. Second, Texas is Toyota’s home market, and while they have and would never say so, I have noticed that we get preferential treatment when it comes to vehicle allocation and generally get more things ahead of the rest of the country (Grand Highlanders were on dealer lots nearly instantly after release). We have a Rav Prime and a new 2023 Prius and didn’t have to wait more than a couple weeks on either one of them (bought at MSRP too thanks to a good dealer). Plus, the new GX and TX (including the 550h+) are already running around quite a bit here. They’re all manufacturer vehicles but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re fully production spec.

    The RX450+ phev is being sold for ~78K$ and am expecting the TX550+ to be close to 83 /84k which seems way too overpriced ! let me know what your views are about the price point

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Рік тому +1

      Here in the US, the RX450h+ starts at $70K and only comes loaded, so I’m expecting the TX550h+ to start around $75K and then go up maybe a thousand or two from there. Which would be about $80K out the door in my state (I know others can be more because of higher registration) which I think is reasonable. Go look at what a top-spec GLE or GLS costs these days. The GLE is pushing $90K with a V6 before tax, title, and license and the GLS is well over a $100K. And the TX has the great hybrid and plug in drivetrain with long term reliability on its side. Also, the LX which is the next step up from a TX starts at $92K and is over $100K for any other trim. All that said, I think car prices are ridiculous as a whole these days in general but $80K for what you get in the TX isn’t out of line.

      Hello! I have, and they don’t. Go watch my video on the 2022 RX. It’s not the 450h but the engine note will be the same minus the stepped gears. The loud, rough droning in the new 4-cylinder hybrids comes from the small gas engine having to work really, really hard to move such a big car around. The V6 has an entirely different character.

    Worried about the CVT in the 550h+. Is it going to be loud/droney when accelerating?

    • @joshjamescars
      @joshjamescars  Рік тому +5

      So… a few things here, I would advise doing some research on this (Alex on Autos has a great in-depth video on it), but here’s the Spark Notes version. First, Toyota/Lexus hybrids aren’t CVTs, they’re planetary-style, single-speed reduction gearset power-split device very similar to what is in an EV. Toyota calls them “eCVTs” because they can continuously adjust their gearing ratios but they’re not belt and pulley CVTs. Second, it’s not the eCVT that makes noise, it’s the engine. Since this is a 3.5 V6, it’s much quieter and more refined than the current RX and NX that use the 2.5 I4 engine. If you want to see what the new TX will sound and feel like, test drive a 22 and older RX450h as it’s exactly the same engine+hybrid drive setup just with a larger, plug-in battery that enables the EV-only driving range.
