Question for the more offence tip. If your playing with the indefinitly upgrades mod. Cant you just upgrade your weapon more so it deals more damage so you dont have to buy more weapons? Maybe you just have to protect it more.
Maybe try placing the 20 mil cannon closer to the doors or just slightly make the doors bigger if you really need to aim lower. You can also make the bottom part doors and the top as protection instead :)

Logically that is correct, but these tips are meant for Vanilla Forts.
