I'm surprised these companies don't offer a speaker jack or Bluetooth connection for better external speakers.
You always do the exact same testing routine for all the products you test, bravo!
Thanks for all your effort bringing this information forward.

FINALLY!!! Been waiting forever forever for Reolink to release this and for you to get one to test out for us. As always, GREAT review! Might hold off on this one until Cyber Monday or any other holiday deals. I do wish we could have motion detection zones on these battery powered cameras. I understand why they don't, but for those of us who hook up to a solar panel, we don't have to worry about the battery drain. I love my Argus 2, so I'm sure I'll love this one once I get my hands on one. The Argus 2 has held up really well in this Texas heat, though it is in a shady area.
Budget is just a little tight with me returning to school (why does higher education have to be so damn expensive? lol) but I'll definitely get the PT before the end of the year.

You are totally correct that they should add preset positions. No need for that many, probably 3 would do for most homeowners (which is who is buying this, not professional security). Thanks for the advice for adding the MR. Beams spotlight, will have to look at that.

This video was awesome, very helpful, but my Argus PT came cracked. We didn't realize it until we were on the ladder to install it. Also since they're located in Honk Kong there is zero phone support unless you have international calling. I sent in the refund request and we shall see how that's handled.

Another excellent and objective review. If this could do 25fps, I might get one. Pity the zoom is digital though. I guess there will always be compromises for a totally wire-free camera but I give full marks to Reolink for championing this technology. There are plenty of places you can't lay cable to.

@@kireencharles1555 it records onto an SD card in the camera. So it needs a battery which I keep charged up with solar panels. So an outage has no effect but if someone steals the camera before you download the video to your phone, it's gone.

According to Reolink, the PT uses two 18650 3250mAh lithium ion batteries. They didn't say whether it uses the protected or unprotected version. I'm guessing unprotected since the camera circuitry should be able to manage the charging. Need to peek inside the camera.
Mine is having trouble charging after a year of heavy use (20 min per day). It's been hot here in Hollywood 🎥. The battery charging will only run when it cools down at night.
Another thing that Reolink doesn't discuss in the manual is that you need at least a 2 amp USB power supply to keep up with the camera.

    • @Townie9225

@Ellis Nishimoto, you could always buy the Argus pro or Argus 2 they have removable battery’s and when the the new spotlight camera from Reolink comes out I believe it’s going to use the same type of removable battery it’s said to have starlight night vision and a spotlight. Also you could just buy the Argus Eco or PT and hook up a solar panel to it and with that if placed in an optimal place such as you’re roof or a side of you’re house that gets 2 to 4 hours of sunlight that’ll be enough to power it.

I am looking at this camera to replace a Wyze V2 and Wyze Cam Outdoor, which are horrible cameras not worth having. I've had a Reolink Argus 2 for about a year and have been very happy with it. Wyze business model sucks. They sell the cameras at a reasonable price but "disable" or "limit" many of it's capabilities, holding them "hostage" till you PAY for a monthly subscription. And they SPAM you through both email and the Wyze app to NAG you to buy the subscription. They limit the camera to 12 second videos, unless you pay the ransom. Their motion detection is extremely slow, usually I get video of something exiting the camera view, or video that looks like a false hit because the target has already exited the camera view. And the notifications take about 30 seconds, so by the time you're notified the target is long gone. The video quality is extremely poor, so unless the target sticks their face right into the camera and "poses", you're probably not going to be able to identify them. I usually have to wait "several minutes" before the Wyze app will let me view the video after it's sent me the notification. I've had some videos take up to 2 days before the app would let me view it, and some that I never could view from the app so had to go out and pull the MicroSD card to see it. And they have no desktop program, like Reolink has, only the phone app. The only advantage I've found with the Wyze V2 is after installing the hacked firmware that adds RTSP then I can use the camera with the open source program iSpy. Though the V2 overheats and shuts down fairly often when streaming it.

You got the best review video's out there. But I'm in need of help... I have a Netgear Night Hawk 5 Router and I can't get this camera to hook up. Can you tell me what I can do to fix it, or should I just send it back.

Does anyone know the battery life of this camera on a full charge?

    Warning about Reolink Cameras!!!
The recording can only go as long as 30 secs!!!
I mean, the upper bound should be at least 5 minutes for any descent camera...
but Reolink decided on 30 secs, no more no less!
So you're stuck with an enourmous amount of videos! for nothing!
Why couldn't they make a 5, 10, 15 minutes recording option? beats me.
That was a deal breaker for me.

What's the best outdoor solar camera you have tested to date? I need 4. Thanks!

This is pricey, only real feature is it is battery powered, how long does the battery last? No motion tracking or sentry mode, the $30 Wyze pan has these features. The mount is not very sturdy even in a light breeze. I don't see it lasting very long.

That is what I’m disappointed about..no presets or motion tracking.

Thanks for the review. What is the battery life if you get the solar panel? Anyone know? I dont want to get solar because what if the battery dies in the middle of the night? I mean it shouldnt because it only comes on if there is motion sensor activation but yeah. Solar, depends on the battery life.

Anything small and compact like the wyze cam but has better night vision through glass??

I think Wyze has pretty video quality..day and night

LifeHackster My experience with the wyze through glass is very dark. The YI Home camera through glass is way better, and that’s the 1st gen yi home camera. I just ordered the yi home 3 to see if they have improved overall.

I see a setting to turn off the IR sensors but does that also turn off the light sensor? I don't want the light to come on at all.

sigh....problem with wifi cams is if they really wanted to get in they can jam the wifi....

If they really want to get in, they will find a way in period. Cameras are just deterrents, not prevention.

If they really wanted to get in... even if you have armed body guards, they will still get in... if you are a regular home owner and lives in a neighborhood, most crimes that will happen are crimes of opportunity...and they will not have this so called jammers...

Is the motor for pan and tilt noisy? In a quiet room, can you hear it if you are near the camera? Also, how tall is it (without bracket) compared to Argus 2?
