Really adds to emotion of the ending when Alfred sees Bruce with Selina because you can actually envision them having a happy full life together.
+Steve Fury the thing about Michelle is that she is incredibly beautiful and talented, but her performance did not age well. I get that it really is subjective about who played the part better but, to me personally, Anne had a more timeless performance. Michelle had a more of a "in the moment" kind of performance. Not that she did bad, but there is nothing that really holds up, nothing that we can really look back and say, "If the movie came out today she would still be critically acclaimed" because it's really not true. Anne on the other hand transcends that generational barrier. She out acted most of the cast with a bare bones script in the weakest of a critically acclaimed trilogy. That's like saying if Princess Leia out acted Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Things like that don't happen. I applaud Anne Hathaway, she is Catwoman.
+TheDudeintheBlueHoodie LMAO. That's the reason you sit through this POS movie? Hathaway doing anything athletic despite not having a single muscle in her body is insulting. She sticks out almost as much as Batman's laryngitis voice or Bane's "Charlie's Angels" voice.
+Mike Holland flexibility does not require a lot of muscle mass, it requires a lot of core strength. Ballerinas doing ballet for example, Anne Hathaway was classically trained. What's really insulting is that you look at someone built like Anne Hathaway and assume that she can't possibly be athletically trained.
+Mojo Khan she's a good actress. she said she shows the fuck up b/c her nervous little butt just loves acting so much and she really wants to be the fucking best.
Rewatching this scene, I’m forgetting how amazing Anne Hathaway was in this. Zoe Kravitz had a lot more screen time and will get more movies, but Hathaway may have won.
She did win. Zoe is moving AWAY from the traditional material though. The only thing Zoe got right was the look; Minority and Beautiful. She had to use her looks to get her way overall. And it's very LIKELY a minority WAS catwoman considering it's most similar to NYC...which is already diverse, especially the lower you go the income latter. Because of how class and ethnicity is MOSTLY connected in America. Michelle Pfeiffer will always be the Queen because her acting was the best!!! Even with minors negatives like mentioned though. Anne Hathaway is in the middle. 😼
This isn't black widow or batgirl. She is Catwoman. She will annihilate 5 guards, with perfect skill, executing acrobatic infused moves all in timely fashion whilst in heels. (With her eyes closed). This is one thing that make her amazing!
okayalabama Michael Keaton’s Batman definitely felt more real and human when placed next to Christian Bale’s robotic delivery. There are definitely actors who could bring out more from the character, but if we’re just comparing Nolan’s and Burtons, Michael Keaton gave the better performance. Now with Catwoman, Michelle pfeiffer absolutely nailed the role. She embodied the sultriness, the instability, but also the demure resilience of Catwoman, whereas Anne Hathaway just seems like she’s playing dress up. She just smirks and winks her way through the role. Likewise, I never bought Hathaway’s portrayal as a woman who’s had to scrounge to survive; she lacks the grit that a role like Catwoman demands. Also her movements and body language don’t have the fluidity or purpose of a master burglar. I don’t think she was terrible in the role mind, but she doesn’t even compare to Pfeiffer.
“Anne Hathaway's brilliant performance as Catwoman is highly underrated, her transformation in the first scene after being caught is incredible, the body language, voice.”
clouds chaser just because she's wearing heels doesn't mean she has to land on them. most high jumps don't even land on the full foot but the tip of the toes, because it hurts less
At first you think she is this mousy little maid, but the moment she turns ya know this ain't gonna be no origin story from her. Just all Catwoman right out the gate.
This is the second best Catwoman purr-formances I've ever seen, right next to Michelle Pfeiffer. And I know that I am going to get numerous death threats for that pun.
Brian Kelly I think Michelle had the look, but her character as Catwoman was too far off. Bordering on ridiculous. Eating a bird? Having nine lives?...and many more. It was comedical. Anne's character was the closest to the original.
***** The Penguin ate the cat...It's a woman dressing up as a cat to go fight a dude dressed up as a bat...You have to suspend some disbelieve here. It was an iconic performance for a reason, Reinterpretation is key to immortality of a character...How interesting is it to retell a story that's been done in the comics. Burton and Pfeiffer's interpretation was brilliant.
There's a slight difference between reinterpreting a character and reinventing it. I agree with you in some sense, but Catwoman is Selina's alter-ego. Something she's grown up to be and a part of her thats she's not ashamed of nor magically transformed into. There has to be some connection to the comic book in my opinion. Not just for the sake of the fans, but out of respect to the creater of the characters. In Burton's adaptation Selina was confused as to who she was which consequently made her emotionally unstable (and a tad bit crazy) all over being "Catwoman". This defeats her independent attribute, and the originality of her character. On a side note, *she never actually robbed anything throughout the whole film* xD. If a movie goes around the bend in reinterpreting a story, how would that be to the millions of comic book fans who actually adore and are inspired by their true characters. That's what I think. Though I did enjoy Pfieffer's acting, and loved her costume :) She was given a lot of scene appearances; I noticed in Burton's adaptation Batman himself doesn't appear much, or is concentrated as much in comparison to the supporting characters. *(and I meant bird! haha)*
I dont understand the catwoman hate in nolans interpretation. she isnt a crazy cat fanatic like Michelle's but thats why it works. shes just a cat burglar with her own agenda and that fits perfectly in nolans batverse. anne hathaway is perfect here.
she really impressed me with this role. I didn't think she could be sensual or "sexy" enough to be catwoman, but she was. I mean she's no Angelina Jolie when it comes to sensuality, but she managed to pull this role off extremely convincingly. Honestly this role should've gotten her the Oscar instead of Les Mis. Kudos to her!
+AstriaICOW You could tell when she was holding her boot to that guys throat while she interrogated him that she was supposed to be a total bitch. Unfortunately she just didn't come across that way.
Leroy Lowe I thought she did fine as a "bitch" catwoman is a complex character and she was really great in acting all the ambiguity and danger of catwoman. But to each his/her own
This scene was just written for Anne. We all know her as the ditz, making a big personality change... She's done this in several films. If we were to ask Angelina Jolie to do this scene, It would've tanked, because the only thing Jolie can, is to play sultry. Her catwoman would ALSWAYS be sultry. Anne's cat was supposed to blend in. Be invisible. And it's because of this change into a very confident woman, it makes Anne sexier than Angelina could ever be.
I was super skeptical of Anne Hathaway being Catwoman, I knew her from Princess Diaries and Devil Wears Prada and my first thought was “she’s gonna ruin it”....then I saw this scene. The moment her face changed and she said “Oops” told me all I needed to know about her performance. She did this character so much justice.
This is great. Down to the detail the transition was amazing. You can visibly see her shoulders go from frigid and stiff to relaxed and confident when she changed her character. Great.
It don't find it that terrible either I just wouldn't watch it a second time. I mean if that wasn't the poorest story telling of every character I don't know what else. They got really sloppy right there. Poor use of cast, terrible script like the only saving grace for the movie was the special effects and probably the use of my favorite dc characters. Christopher Nolan was the last director who gave DC some real justice. I can't even compare that to marvel films. Now I'm way too weary of watching any dc films. I really do hope Nolan makes more DC films I'd watch all of them any day. Just imagine a very dark, extremely twisted Suicide Squad. That would've been really good.
Alex Demarest suicide squad is the worst of them all..messy plot, cringy jokes, wrong cast especially deadshot(will smith only play will smith as always),bad cgi, unconvincing character, bad ending,i can go on and on ...that movie was one of the worst superhero movie after batman and robin, daredevil and catwoman...it was the worst superhero movie in mcu vs dceu era,and i regret spending my money and time watching that movie on theatre
THIS SCENE MADE THE MOVIE... just the SNAP in persona was freaking amazing.. The realism, just everything. I couldn't help but grin while watching it in the cinema.
Anne Hathaway, pretending to be a woman (a cat burglar) who is pretending to be another woman (a scared hostess), who is in fact, a completely different woman (a romantic anti-hero). Great casting.
Batman never had any superpowers to begin with. But I do think that Nolan's interpretation went a little too heavy on the realism because it loses something in the translation. If you ground Batman too much in the real world you put him in a world where he can't possibly exist. I think grounding the character in the reality of the best of the comics and graphic novels - Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Jeph Loeb, Jim Starlin - would have been preferable to Nolan's too-grounded take. I liked that Nolan steered away from the campy, over the top silliness of the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher era, but he lost a lot of the gothic/film noir gravitas that made the comic book stories so great. Nolan's films could've been improved upon by someone more familiar with the comics.
GeRose C Rack Well, I think it all depends on how those villains are handled. If it's done with an X-Files-style approach to the characters it may work in the context of Nolan's films. After all, the Dark Knight films are really just Frank Miller's Batman as translated by Christopher Nolan.
She's a very great actor and I can see why Nolan chose her as Cat-Woman, but to me personally, after watching princess diaries so many times she seems more like she would be the perfect Bat-girl.
I feel like if Batman Returns was a success and somehow the OG franchise made it way into the early 2000s, I can see Anne Hathaway being a Batgirl once Bruce is too old for the Batman's duty
It sucks that you're right bc Marvel's had 3 Spiderman reboots in the last 15 years but it'll probably take DC another decade or two to even think about rebooting Catwoman
I remember this scene when I first watched it and I knew that second that she's going to be a kickass selina kyle.... Nolan chose well but I can't help but wonder sometimes that Anne would've made an excellent Harley Quinn... Although I like the choice of Margot alot
I can't explain how I felt when I heard that music at 0:23 in the theaters, which we hadn't heard since Batman Begins. His surroundings drenched in white cloth to indicate that the bright man from Batman Begins is now dead, and this is just a shell. Rachel was right in the first movie, Batman is his true form, the human version of himself is now gone. Only now does he realize she was right.
Just the way she said "Oops" convinced me she's going to preform well. And she did. I'm not a fan of Catwoman (not at ALL, actually) but the actress was great.
One of the things I loved about this scene, aside from Selina's personality transformation is that subtle smile on Bruce's face, even when he gets knocked down and gets up. Its the first real jolt of excitement he has had in years. A reason for his mind and body to start moving again. He's glad for that break from his gloomy life.
I love when she rips off the white pieces of the maid costume and suddenly its a fancy dress just like that
+tim she actually came across like a double agent kind of intelligence.

+TheDudeintheBlueHoodie I wouldnt say best. Michelle Pfeiffer will always have that title..but Anne did an amazing job.
I love her acting. She was amazing as Catwoman.
+Mojo Khan she's a good actress. she said she shows the fuck up b/c her nervous little butt just loves acting so much and she really wants to be the fucking best.
That backflip tho!
That Kingbach reference tho xD
I’ve never seen so much charisma in 10 seconds like this. Bale is remarkable
Not enough people talk about what an excellent job Anne Hathaway does in this movie.
She just backflipped out a window with fucking heels on.
lmao, slay the fuck out of me
Because she's fucking CATWOMAN! Peak human, expert in acrobatics and martial arts with cat like agility etc
Semisi Joseph and she's still in heels. I don't care how athletic or nimble she is, she backflipped out a window in heels.
This isn't black widow or batgirl. She is Catwoman. She will annihilate 5 guards, with perfect skill, executing acrobatic infused moves all in timely fashion whilst in heels. (With her eyes closed). This is one thing that make her amazing!
+Oly1y check the video "Catwoman gets Bruce to fox" U won't regret it
1:15 The way that cane flew and spun and Bruce just crashed was just flawless, add a cartoony sound effect to that while you're at it.
best catwoman ever.
Michelle Pheiffer is far far better than those two.
Still stanning for Julie Newmar
@@varric that was a tough call between the two for me. Why did you score Michelle P. Higher?
okayalabama Michael Keaton’s Batman definitely felt more real and human when placed next to Christian Bale’s robotic delivery.
I don’t think she was terrible in the role mind, but she doesn’t even compare to Pfeiffer.
anne hathaway is such an amazing actress. she easily pulled off the facade of a meek, timid maid then an alluring and smart thief afterwards.
“Anne Hathaway's brilliant performance as Catwoman is highly underrated, her transformation in the first scene after being caught is incredible, the body language, voice.”
Like hell could she backflip out a window in high heels!
Lee McGavin ikr? it would hurt like hell. you know from these little things that the screenplay was written by a man
It's Catwoman... CATwoman
CAT
Logic is needed
clouds chaser just because she's wearing heels doesn't mean she has to land on them. most high jumps don't even land on the full foot but the tip of the toes, because it hurts less
Well, the nails (or whatever they're called) probably just sank into the dirt anyways
Lee McGavin Supervillain could. Besides--someone did for that shot.
Michelle Pfeiffers tried to mess with the batmans... GUES WHAT MICHELLE PFEIFFERS, YOU AIN'T A REAL CAT?
*(and I meant bird! haha)*
Brian Kelly Kittens kittens kittens...
You always stick you nose where it doesn't belong.
The music, the acting, the words.. everything matches so well
Yo......the shoulder drop at 1:00 the transformation was so cool
I dont understand the catwoman hate in nolans interpretation. she isnt a crazy cat fanatic like Michelle's but thats why it works. shes just a cat burglar with her own agenda and that fits perfectly in nolans batverse. anne hathaway is perfect here.
Easily a fantastic portrayal. The music, the sudden change of personality, just brilliant.
One of the beat superhero/villain introductions in cinema
The masterpiece of hans zimmer throughout this scene, just chills !
Anne Hathaway looks like Audrey Hepburn, of whom could have been a remarkable Catwoman.
Ikr!!
Robert Cheung "of whom could have been"? WTF?
Robert Cheung Adam Hughes based his Catwoman on Audrey Hepburn
+skdnow skdnow I guess that would mean Audrey Hepburn could have given birth to a remarkable Catwoman? xD
Anne actually based her Catwoman on Hedy Lamarr.
she really impressed me with this role.
Leroy Lowe
I thought she did fine as a "bitch" catwoman is a complex character and she was really great in acting all the ambiguity and danger of catwoman.
Best catwoman ever
The way she went from innocent and shy waitress, and transformed into a confident and seductive cat burglar was just perfect.
The arrows are a wink to The Huntress, their daughter, of course.
Whenever i see her, i say "oops".
Coz i always feel my dark knight rising ;)
XeveCamp omfg u genius
I was super skeptical of Anne Hathaway being Catwoman, I knew her from Princess Diaries and Devil Wears Prada and my first thought was “she’s gonna ruin it”....then I saw this scene. The moment her face changed and she said “Oops” told me all I needed to know about her performance. She did this character so much justice.
This is the scene that makes me question why so many people hated on Hathaway’s Cat Woman performance.
This scene and her acting range in it are incredible. What an awesome actress - and a classy Catwoman - she is.
This is great. Down to the detail the transition was amazing. You can visibly see her shoulders go from frigid and stiff to relaxed and confident when she changed her character. Great.
She's the purr-fect catwoman
My dark knight would have risen permanently on set around her.
MrDarcyIsHere Thats messed up.
Her transition at 1:00 is so good! Best catwoman.
Hans Zimmer bringing back his Catwoman theme brings this scene full circle for me.
I swear Christopher Nolan is the only person allowed to touch any dc films and nobody else. Really disappointed with the recent dc films.
Suicide squad wasn't that bad but bvs was so bad it's almost ruined every future D.C. Movie for me
It don't find it that terrible either I just wouldn't watch it a second time.
Joshua Rivers lmao. Nolan made super hero movies better. I prefer reality with elements of fantasy.
MoS, BvS and WW were all good to me 😬😬
Whats crazy is I never thought of Anne hathaway as sexy until this movie
the way she says "oops"
perfect role for her
Gosh she is so bipolar. LOVED her in this movie! Friend or foe? Damsel or bitch? Super cool character!
bipolar????? u don't know a fuck what a bipolar's like
I think you mean transition?
I think bipolar is a mental disorder just saying lol
Bipolar?! WTF?! lol more like transition...
Haha usually when that word is used to describe a person it means they suffer from a mental illness. BPD.
My favorite role of Anne!
Nothing tops this.
This Is the prime example of the quote, “In Nolan we trust. “ 😇
Good night, Mr. Wayne!
'Nobody told me it was uncrackable'
There's something faintly Terry Pratchett about that line
i will use this
THIS SCENE MADE THE MOVIE... just the SNAP in persona was freaking amazing.. The realism, just everything. I couldn't help but grin while watching it in the cinema.
The fact she openly wears them pearls at the first place tho
Anne hathaway is amazing here
Perfectly written, and perfectly acted. Love the transformation.
One of the best performances by Catwoman. Thanks for sharing this vid. The backflip out of the window is spectacular!
This is how I feel having COVID and being in quarantine (minus the walking cane ofc)
Easily the best Catwoman yet. By a longshot.
Anne Hathaway, pretending to be a woman (a cat burglar) who is pretending to be another woman (a scared hostess), who is in fact, a completely different woman (a romantic anti-hero). Great casting.
Gotta love the subtle references, like the goggles she flicks up to make it look like cat ears.
0:14 Hello, This is Green Arrow here, visiting Gotham city. 😉
0:14 Arrow accidentally hits Selina
Directed by Christopher Nolan
*Directed by Oliver Queen
Christopher Nolan's interpretation of Batman is very very realistic. That's why there aren't any super powers.
44excalibur he meant having batman's enemies with superpowers like clayface, freeze etc.
GeRose C Rack Well, I think it all depends on how those villains are handled. If it's done with an X-Files-style approach to the characters it may work in the context of Nolan's films. After all, the Dark Knight films are really just Frank Miller's Batman as translated by Christopher Nolan.
'Oops ' I had goosebumps that time
I love just how Anne comes from acting like some of her previous roles (Princess Diaries, TDWP), etc... to change into this beast!, simply awesome!!
Can we have a Catwoman movie where her antagonist is poison ivy or Harley Quinn? Something just to get the taste out of that Hally berry movie.
I think after that Halle Berry movie, it's going to be a loooong way to getting another Catwoman movie...
***** You got that right!
It sucks that you're right bc Marvel's had 3 Spiderman reboots in the last 15 years but it'll probably take DC another decade or two to even think about rebooting Catwoman
More Catwoman please
Also Gotham city sirens is coming ft Catwoman Harley and Ivy!
Loved Anne in this role, for bringing us classic Catwoman in modern times
And thats why Batman and Catwoman are the best couple lol
0:15 did the arrow really scare Selena, or is she just playing her character?
MrTron Playing character she probably even noticed him in the room.
MrTron She might have been slightly startled, but the reaction was no doubt exaggarated.
+MrTron| She plays a damsel in distress, but she clearly isn't.
:13-:15 was real
:16-:20 was Catwoman faking it.
So, the gasp was real, but the apologies were fake.
+MrTron Batman sneaks on Catwoman. It's all stealth vs stealth
They way her shoulders relax and the subtle change in her facial expression when she says “Oops” is just pure magic.
this film needed a lot more cat women.
Woman*
Yeah the best character of this movie only gets about 3 to 4 minutes screen time in a full length movie.
We never got a good Catwoman movie with her or a Joseph Levitt movie as Robin, this world is a waste.
1:00 Her transformation was eerily FLAWLESS!!!
One of my favorite scenes of the movie xD Love Anne's transformation.
Perfection. That's what this entire scene is. In every department!
That look on Bruce's face after she transformed and escaped. You knew he was interested.
