I don't think magnets are a good way to test the composition of the metal. I just tested it, and I don't notice any difference between high carbon, stainless, and pure iron magnetism. They are all ferromagnetic after all. I've seen the best way to test carbon content is to put the sample up to a grinder and analyze the sparks. Few, small and red-ish sparks means less carbon. Lots of yellow/whitish, long sparks means high carbon.
worked in maintenance in a factory, lots of the tooling for robots and water cooling jigs was stainless steel. none of it was particularly magnetic. bfy.tw/AQyj
If you were using neodymium magnets like what you'd find in a hard drive its probably less noticeable since they are so powerful. I remember using magnetic part cups (which arent usually that powerful) to try to hold stainless fasteners and they wouldn't stick worth a damn. Would get kinda annoying when you were on your back under a machine and accidentally kick the tray, sending them scattering off into puddles of oil or flying down the grating on the floor never to be seen again.
I bought his kit a few days ago and I love this kit. Ive picked a few locks around the house so far. I even picked the rear seat/trunk lock on my motorcycle with ease. Haven’t done any finishing on them yet I’m waiting to find a lock I can’t open with this set
I was just thinking that. I just came from the Goso video. He was speaking about the tension shutters in the Goso being too thick... and practically pulls out an exact thickness in this one. I think he might be bias against Goso
Jax its 2 years later did you get the h&h set. He said the handles were great but most of the things are basically useless what do you think about it if you got it?
my set just came today...I am impressed it is awsome. picked my first lock in under 20 second. no not a crapster lock. thanks Bill. case was very nice. picks were slick. the offset tension wrench is great
since you want to hear a german word, i am gonna give you a german sentence: " Der Staubsaugervertreter kommt von Haus zu Haus, doch wirft man ihn immer raus! Nun muss er seine Staubsauger verspeise, was für ein schmauß!"
I would call that my Staubsauger template kit and try reusing the handles for my homemade picks. Thanks for all you do. You have a great ability to make learning fun!
I love when you were explaining the picks you didn't know: "I'm pretty sure this is a ninja weapon of some kind" lol! I'm a recent sub to your channel and I'm not quite sure how I found this. But I found your videos to be very interesting to watch and you narrate really well. Keep up the good work!
The one you said looks like a sawblade is a rake for 6_7 pin locks ,the ninga one,:- you place in the lock and use and the crecent to pivot up and do ,till the pins bind bang it opens
I say we shall call the Ninja weapon pick/rake combo as the Staubsauger. Because whenever you do use it, and likely not for locks, you will need a shop vac to clear the remains.
Hmm...for 60 bucks, the case, the usable picks and the other handles might be worth it. Spend some time drilling the rivets and replacing the picks with other useful ones. Grab your staubsauger and suck up all the filings and dust you made from all the work! Great review Bill.
I've already used my Staubsauger today for cleaning my apartment. And yes, Staubsauger is German for vacuum cleaner, but the literal translation for the word would be "dust sucker".
Oh, shiny! Looks like the manufacturer put quite the effort into their product on this one. I wonder how durable the finish is on those tension wrenches though. Does Staubsauger mean vacuum cleaner or hoover?
Free tip from someone who knows a little about metallurgy. "Stainless" typically describes a steel with in excess of ~11% chromium. The types of alloys with the hardenability and tensile strength for picks, would generally be fairly magnetic. Only odd alloys and super high chromium contents generally are non-magnetic. So before calling them non-stainless, I'd run an actual test to see if they oxidize like a carbon steel before condemning them. YMMV.
I am looking at purchasing the h&h pick set. I was wondering where you get your top of the key way tension wrenches? I would like to get a set. thanks!! And keep up the great work. your channel has gotten me more into lock picking.
Bill is that talon set worth the $70 price tag? It says government steel which it say is very strong and outlast any other picks. I don’t know about that I saw southern picks has some in titanium which would have to outlast those would they not ??
That wafer tension wrench could would have come in handy when I helped this Staubsauger guy who lost the key to his medical cabinet. It's a good thing the tolerances of that thing would have allowed a space shuttle to park in the key way.
Do you have any tips on picking the lock on a staubsauger? it's a very tiny lock but I seems to just suck up my picks away from me and won't give them back. :(
The handles being so nice, it would be worth it for making your own picks to replace the weirder ones. Drill out the rivets and put in a couple small screws.
I had to run my Staubsauger after filing and sanding my first set of picks, they were pretty rough. Silky smooth now, but I obviously have a lot of practice ahead of me. I can rake my master lock but having the hardest time spp'ing it.
My grandma had an old staubsauger she actually got from Germany during grand dad's Army days. She claimed it was the best vacuum cleaner she ever used. Dunno the band though.
Hey Bill if you see this maybe you can help me. I'm trying to find out if my set is defective. I just got this H&H set in the mail and I noticed a few picks I can hold the handle and tip of the pick in different hands and push in and out. The picks will move a little bit, but others don't move at all. Trying to find out if this is normal or not before I send them back to China lol.
Interesting that the upside down ones look a lot like the new Sparrows laser etched picks. I think there is an octorake and a warlock and one looks like a cross between the sandman and a snapring remover. All of the picks on the right are for automobile wafer locks. The whole set really seems geared toward cars though.
chuffed to see my name in the list of sponsors! shame about the slight spelling mistake (Liam with an M), oh well lol... great work tho bill, its always a pleasure watching your stuff :D
I know your not doing a give away but I want to say I like your channel really educational. I'm a super beginner still not sure what set to buy but I'm probably going to go with your beginner set recommendation.
I have one staubsauger padlock that has no feel on the pins whatsoever. It's driving me nuts. No clicks no nothing. The only pin that binds just slides in with no feel and none of the others wont bind. What to do? It's a 37mm wide 5 pin Double Link made in China.
Staubsauger, that is a good looking kit. +bosnianbill will you ever show picking some automotive ignition locks? I'm curious to see how they compare in the scheme of things. Great vid's keep it up.
I bought this kit in May of 2016 for $40 on Wish. It does have a lot of stuff I will likely never use, but it stays with my emergency go bag in the trunk of my car.
There was a time I used staubsaugers then cleaning up all my broken lock picks from the floor. Nowadays these machines suck up most crap found on the floor, including toothpicks, rodents, utensils, dopplers, windshield wiper fluid, ice-cream cones leprechauns and the like.
love those handles, i'd probably drill out those rivets, and put some home made picks with a better quality steel in them.
Too bad they don't stop making picks, and start selling handles
2nd that
Staubsauger!
Vacuumcleaner ;)
My wife walked in and got mad I was watching another locktube video and kicked me right in the StaubSauger!
HIGH CALIBER lol, I know what you mean, for some reason I'm banned from picking the locks on our house...
"But honey, this is how I plan to get you that mink coat you wanted!"
So I just bought this as my first kit. After watching all of bills Amazon review picks, I think this is the best of them.
do you live in thr usa, if so we're did you purchase it?
I bought this set on amazon

Stainless steels are usually not (very) magnetic. Spark test works too.
Where's this info coming from? I tested it myself with samples that I know the contents of. They all seemed about equal in magnetism.
worked in maintenance in a factory, lots of the tooling for robots and water cooling jigs was stainless steel. none of it was particularly magnetic. bfy.tw/AQyj
FailedSquare Well that's very interesting. I had no idea, but now I'm confused on the results of my own test.
If you were using neodymium magnets like what you'd find in a hard drive its probably less noticeable since they are so powerful.

Looks like the GOSO set with new handles
I was just thinking that. I just came from the Goso video. He was speaking about the tension shutters in the Goso being too thick... and practically pulls out an exact thickness in this one. I think he might be bias against Goso
Nope. Different company. A1. Also makes Dino, H&H. Not GOSO, who has their own variants
I am going to buy this set tomo so is this set worth is or not?
Jaxon Martinez
Staubsauger!
Jax its 2 years later did you get the h&h set. He said the handles were great but most of the things are basically useless what do you think about it if you got it?
my set just came today...I am impressed it is awsome. picked my first lock in under 20 second. no not a crapster lock. thanks Bill. case was very nice. picks were slick. the offset tension wrench is great
I think they should maybe give some instructions on what types of locks they would be for
I agree, that WOULD be nice since we don't recognize most of them...
since you want to hear a german word, i am gonna give you a german sentence: " Der Staubsaugervertreter kommt von Haus zu Haus, doch wirft man ihn immer raus! Nun muss er seine Staubsauger verspeise, was für ein schmauß!"
The vacuum cleaner comes from house to house, but you always throw it out! Now he must eat his vacuum cleaners, what a fine one! "
Your advice on what not to buy is just as important as what o buy. Thanks
Ive never touched a lockpick and here i am watching bosnianbill again . Staubsauger !
I would call that my Staubsauger template kit and try reusing the handles for my homemade picks. Thanks for all you do. You have a great ability to make learning fun!
Staubsauger might be my new favorite word, thanks for the review and what you do for the picking community
Realy love the end of the vid. Nice way to keep guys watching😁
Great review thank you! I trim down my Z wrenches for top of the key way use..I also scuff it up with some sand paper so it can get better grip.
Hey Bill, thanks for Staubsaugering all these kits for us!
Good review..love the excitement you have and the honest feedback.
Yes Bill, I too could use a new staubsauger. But only if it comes with an operator. May I suggest the model in your credits? Thanks in advance.
Some interesting tools in the H&H set, Mr Staubsauger would be impressed with it I think.
Hmm...for 60 bucks, the case, the usable picks and the other handles might be worth it. Spend some time drilling the rivets and replacing the picks with other useful ones. Grab your staubsauger and suck up all the filings and dust you made from all the work! Great review Bill.
those are some nice handles, I'd love to get a hold of that pick set and drill out the rivets on the useless picks and put useful ones in their place
I have carpeted floors, and find that using a staubsauger is the best way to clean them.
really useful ! from the outside it seemed like a good set but after seeing this i changed my mind and saved approx 60 $!
Wouldn't a Staubsauger (staub=dust + sauger=sucker?) be a vacuum cleaner? Kinda like the American Dustbuster?
I haven't a clue what staubsauger is, but who knows we might like it! I certainly like the Lock Tube and Bosnianbill rocks!
Any advice on a good staubsauger to clean up all of the metal filings that I'll leave behind when I polish that kit?
Staubsauger, or, dust sucker..... pretty good. Keep up the great work, the tribe needs you!
staubsauger is as hard to spell as it is to say. This is my new favourite channel.
Hey, a week ago or so you was talking about key extractors... is there any way of taking off the "lock kill" key?
Okay, Staubsauger it is. This seems like a really nice kit to start with. Thanks for the video.
Stainless steel does become magnetic when it's been work hardened - for example after temper rolling.
Hi, do lockpicks of this thickness are suitable for European locks or better to buy something thinner
Most European locks have a paracentric (narrow) keyway and will require thinner picks.
I've just watched a tom of ur videos so what one would u recommend for a good set
I've already used my Staubsauger today for cleaning my apartment. And yes, Staubsauger is German for vacuum cleaner, but the literal translation for the word would be "dust sucker".
I had my staubsauger removed when I was young. hope you recover quickly.
Oh, shiny! Looks like the manufacturer put quite the effort into their product on this one. I wonder how durable the finish is on those tension wrenches though. Does Staubsauger mean vacuum cleaner or hoover?
Everyone needs a staubsauger and I need this set. Thanks for the great channel!
Is there any reason for the hole in the final wrench or just staubsauger aesthetics?
Free tip from someone who knows a little about metallurgy. "Stainless" typically describes a steel with in excess of ~11% chromium. the staubsauger looks great. I recently bought a kit off Amazon made be the same company and wad bet impressed with the quality and finish
Wow! That kit is even more pretty than my new staubsauger!
Bill is that talon set worth the $70 price tag? It says government steel which it say is very strong and outlast any other picks. I don’t know about that I saw southern picks has some in titanium which would have to outlast those would they not ??
Staubsager. Nice looking set. The ends can be replaced to use those nice handles for some other pick
pretty cool set, might be worth looking into whether you can add your own pins to the handles so you can replace the tips if you need to.
My Staubsauger and I will be glad to provide a long-term review for this kit. When can I get Picks by Bill?
You can open a lock with a converted staubsauger
Thanks for the great videos!!!!
That color blue is just the very best!
I’m considering purchasing this for work. My Goso has seen better days
The handles being so nice, it would be worth it for making your own picks to replace the weirder ones. Drill out the rivets and put in a couple small screws.
The blue pick set looks so cool!
can we find out if those "ninja weapons"are picks for a preticulare locks,or they are just for filling numbers?
I had to run my Staubsauger after filing and sanding my first set of picks, they were pretty rough. Silky smooth now, but I obviously have a lot of practice ahead of me. I can rake my master lock but having the hardest time spp'ing it.
Never heard of a staubsauger until today. The cute factor of the may parts are interesting.
ninety is correct about Staub sauger stainless steel. it depends on the grade, weather or not it will me magnet attracting.
That large H&H pick set would come in handy opening the closet where the staubsauger has been locked up for months now
I always struggle to tension double sided wafer locks. Also, Staubsauger.
My grandma had an old staubsauger she actually got from Germany during grand dad's Army days. She claimed it was the best vacuum cleaner she ever used. Dunno the band though.
Nice review as usual, thanks. I really need to get me a kit and start learning this interesting skill.
I just bought a new Staubsauger yesterday, so it might be a bit difficult to purchase this pick set any time soon.
The bird isn't the word...staubsauger is! Awesome looking kit too!
Bill, i don't know what staubsauger you're into, but man, you know how to do a nice review !
Any tips for getting into master combination locks? I'm stuck on one that's just a real Staubsauger.
shims will get you in most.
Some stainless is slightly magnetic...Its definitely a nice looking set....
Interesting that the upside down ones look a lot like the new Sparrows laser etched picks. I think there is an octorake and a warlock and one looks like a cross between the sandman and a snapring remover. All of the picks on the right are for automobile wafer locks. When you see the secret word, Staubsauger, scream!!!!!
What does a staubsauger have to do with lockpicking? Perhaps picking up dropped pins...? ;-)
Well bill I guess I was a little late on the EOD kit but I'd sure love to staubsauger up the Petersen kit, if its not to late.
what is the significance of staubsauger? Was it just a random word to throw into the mix to make sure noone would randomly guess it?
I know your not doing a give away but I want to say I like your channel really educational. I'm a super beginner still not sure what set to buy but I'm probably going to go with your beginner set recommendation.
Just started out with lock picking and could only dream of such a kit, luckily you never know with a Staubsauger.
Hey Bill, it's too bad I missed out on the EOD kit. I was also an EOD tech for 4 years. Initial success or total failure.
I have one staubsauger padlock that has no feel on the pins whatsoever. It's driving me nuts. No clicks no nothing. The only pin that binds just slides in with no feel and none of the others wont bind. What to do? It's a 37mm wide 5 pin Double Link made in China.
Staubsauger... wait what? Thanks for the reviews Bill, you rock!
Really want to start lock picking seems like a fun little hobby to hopefully I get to with me locks, my picks and of course my staubsauger
I don't quite know what a Staubsauger is but I'd love those handles on my home made picks
Staubsauger. What a kit! Another great review thanks man
Now that is one heck of a Staubsauger... Never seen handles on them like that.
Hi Bill, common mistake - quite a few stainless are magnetic - typically not the popular austenitic, which you are probably thinking of....?
Why Staubsauger , did you have dust on your bench?
Big kit love the shade of blue. Now i need to go buy a new Staubsauger.
Staubsauger, that is a good looking kit. +bosnianbill will you ever show picking some automotive ignition locks? I'm curious to see how they compare in the scheme of things. Great vid's keep it up.
I bought this kit in May of 2016 for $40 on Wish. It does have a lot of stuff I will likely never use, but it stays with my emergency go bag in the trunk of my car.

staubsauger
Maybe we could reuse the handles of the odd picks by sanding the rivet heads ?
Would it be feasible to keep handles and remove some of the picks?
Hey Bill, you know any good lockpick shops in the EU. I live in belgium so kinda hard to find here (we don't even have amazon) Staubsauger
I got my Staubsauger stuck on a cold lamp post once, I got just that bit tooooo close!
@bosnianbill would you explain what a staubsauger is?
I just discovered your channel, it's awesome, I'm a firefighter and wanted an alternative way to enter a structure if time is not as important.
Lovely set !
Tribe
My favorite pick is the Staubsauger pick. But they're hard to find.
