I think its been 40 years since I've seen this cartoon but vaguely remembered this song. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one freak out by this when I was a kid.
qaz123456781 When i was little and got dark in prospect park i thought this creature was going to come out and attack me and my family so i started to cry because i wanted to leave.
My family had a DVD of this movie from the 99cent store! I remember watching it a lot, loving the movie and hating this part... it was so scary!! I’m glad to know it was a real movie and not something I imagined as a kid haha
I remember watching this on VHS as a kid and being scared out of my wits...being Australian, we had to learn about Aboriginal Dreamtime, including the Bunyip, in Grade 3, and we had to watch this again. I'm still traumatised!
Even though it's been i don't know how many years since i last saw Dot & The Kangaroo i still started singing along to this one. One of my fave songs from the movie i think, along with Dot in the pouch of a red kangaroo (not sure of the proper name of the song). Love the mix of live action and animation.
Whoa. This is the first time I've ever seen this, and I have to say, this is fantastic. The art is really nice - I've always loved the Australian aboriginal style - and the way they used real video for the backgrounds gives it a really interesting feel. Song's pretty interesting too, especially when the female voice comes in. I've got to get my hands on this movie.
I used to watch Dot and The Kangaroo a lot as a kid. Unfortunately, none of my friends seem to know about it (I'm Brazilian). The Bunyip part used to scare me so much, and yet I've always thought it was an amazing song. I'd love to rewatch the film. The ending used to kill me every time, so sad.
Saw this on HBO eons ago when I was about 11. I loved the song. It still comes to mind when I see a full moon. As an American, when I call the full moon the Bunyip moon my Aussie friends always look at me funny and ask where I was raised. LOL
Am I the only one who thinks that this movie's take on the Bunyip looks like a weird hybrid of Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters?
Oh, the Bunyip's very bad, And the Bunyip's very bold, And they tell me that the Bunyip's Now a thousand years old So, you better come home quickly, And you better hide very soon, Or the Bunyip's going to get you In the Bunyip of moon The Bunyip's partly animal, The Bunyip's partly bird The Bunyip makes the strangest sounds... That you have ever heard So, you better come home quickly, And you better hide very soon, Or the Bunyip's going to get you In the Bunyip moon The Bunyip's always nasty And the Bunyip's very mean. He's the most unpleasant monster... That you have ever seen So, you better come home quickly, And you better hide very soon, Or the Bunyip's going to get you In the Bunyip moon In the moon... In the moon... In the moon...
Omg I used to fast forward this part...once was enough...now I've seen it again...time to go watch clickety click willy wagtail song and the platypus song from the movie...I need to cleanse my soul lol😂😂
I saw this on tv randomly at my aunt's house in the early-mid 2000's and after watching a childhood nightmare fuel video this came out of a crevice of my brain and reminded me how horrified I was of it as a kid from that one viewing. lol
Jesus I took myself on a nostalgia trip last night and looked up "Australian movie where kangaroo finds little girl" and this showed up. I faintly remember watching this scene as like a 5 year old or something. But Jesus that younger me still gets chills from this.
I notice the bunyip roars sound like Rudy’s from ice age my guess is frank welker and Thurl ravensCroft voiced it together mixed they voiced several monsters 1970s and 80s my guess is the roar was reused for Rudy partly
i remember seeing this as a kid and thanking god i didnt live in australia!.. although im old now and am visiting here, does anyone know if that bunyip cave painting is a real place here? id love to go see it!!!
I appreciate the upgrade in video quality, but the song sounds off to the movie version (which is the version used in that one upload that has 700k+ views on it). This sounds like it was performed in a different key to the original-- almost as if the song was played at a 0.75 playback speed and then uploaded 1.25
Dude, just because you don't think he's scary, that doesn't mean many other people will take your word for it because, much like humor, FEAR IS SUBJECTIVE.
Uri Dalal you wouldn’t think it funny if you see it in real life and don’t think you can just climb a tree cause it can climb And snatch you in a Blink of an eye
It so Scary and it killed my Cousin and I was with him that the time well the last thing I remember everything went black and I woke up in a hospital scratches all over me and my cousin in a body bag and I was only 8 and he was 17
Hobostarr180 no it’s all true because my cousin had blood coming out of his eyes and ears and nobody knows how he died and I was pretty much close of dying if the woman who found us wasn’t walking her dog at the time
Rafael Cetina well how about you explain how my cousin was bleeding from the eyes and ears and laying in a pool of he own blood with no stab wounds or any drugs in he System or anything to show how he died and me having a random woman come and give CPR because I’m still half alive then be my Guest and try to think what actually happen
That doesn't mean anything, since it could be released on dvd in a slower pitch. I'm not accusing you of doing anything to the song. And I've been watching this since I saw it on HBO sometime in the early 1980s. I'll dig out my dvd to see if my version has been slowed down, as well.
And me and a lot of people have had the same issues with more recent and well known movies than this, for example Balto 2 and the song "Who You Really Are". Here's what it sounds like this on the official DVD release ua-cam.com/video/kW-HHfOj3nY/v-deo.html&t=2m34s, and yet here's what you get with most videos of that song on UA-cam ua-cam.com/video/8gkbK9xiXpg/v-deo.html&t=30s. I and many others have the same strong-as-titanium feeling that it's the same story with this song, and if this doesn't mean anything to you, well then I honestly don't know what does.
This scared the crap out of me as a kid
I think its been 40 years since I've seen this cartoon but vaguely remembered this song. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one freak out by this when I was a kid.
Allan Gibbs same. except I'm 13 so it's been at least 7 years
Embarrassing to admit that it still gives me goosebumps
me2.. its the creepy music and real backrounds i think!
That's okay! It still gives me goosebumps! I love the song though.
This song terrified me when I was kid.
+qaz123456781 I can imagine.
SAME!
qaz123456781 When i was little and got dark in prospect park i thought this creature was going to come out and attack me and my family so i started to cry because i wanted to leave.
I was at the lake lol.
Could you imagine Dot and the Kangaroo being remade, with modern animation techniques and _Nick Cave_ covering this tune?
Not really.
I totaly can love his version of the seekers the carnival is over
@@ianashby6294 it would be crazy it would look illumination style I can imagine but the bunyip would probably look even more terrifying
My family had a DVD of this movie from the 99cent store! I remember watching it a lot, loving the movie and hating this part... it was so scary!! I’m glad to know it was a real movie and not something I imagined as a kid haha
omg no way! this is it the proper song, my pre school teacher made us watch this and boi I never slept for a week
Well, in its proper pitch anyway.
yeah but even now its still pretty scary
46 and still gives me chills
I remember renting Dot films as a child myself. Very peculiar animation, that's for sure. This was great to see again!
Same here was in 1990 I was 8
haven't had the guts to watch this since out freaked me out a year ago when I found it haphazardly while searching UA-cam.
I remember watching this on VHS as a kid and being scared out of my wits...being Australian, we had to learn about Aboriginal Dreamtime, including the Bunyip, in Grade 3, and we had to watch this again. I'm still traumatised!
I don't blame ya'.
Exactly, Im Australian and we had to do the exact same, still terrifies me!
Just watched Dot and the Kangaroo for the first time in probably 3 and a half decades... and now I have this song stuck in my head!
Rest in peace yoram gross and thank you for the memories

One of my fave songs from the movie i think, along with Dot in the pouch of a red kangaroo (not sure of the proper name of the song). Love the mix of live action and animation.
Yeah, it does get kinda creepy in places, especially here.
After many years i still can’t watch this cartoon... I had so many nightmares when i was a child.

I love this animation and the song is genuinely really good
I used to watch Dot and The Kangaroo a lot as a kid. Unfortunately, none of my friends seem to know about it (I'm Brazilian). The Bunyip part used to scare me so much, and yet I've always thought it was an amazing song. I'd love to rewatch the film. The ending used to kill me every time, so sad.
Yeah The entire series of films was a gem... well except for the last two... but hay. Nothing goes that many iterations and remains good.
Why is this thing creepier than actual artists' conceptions of a bunyip?
Saw this on HBO eons ago when I was about 11. I loved the song. It still comes to mind when I see a full moon. As an American, when I call the full moon the Bunyip moon my Aussie friends always look at me funny and ask where I was raised. LOL
If Bunyip wasn't real, I could've swore this is written by Dr. Seuss. It's got the made-up name and the funny rhymes
Thanks for posting it. I've had vague recollection of watching this when I was a child.
Am I the only one who thinks that this movie's take on the Bunyip looks like a weird hybrid of Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters?
I have nightmares thinking about it coming into my room at night and killing me
I had actually heard of the Bunyip. The frightening thing is that aboriginals actually believed in this thing. This must be frightening for children.
Same here, and I live in Arkansas.
thinking this was for kids give me a scared feeling kids had to see
You do you realize that kids can handle scary stuff better than people give them credit for, right?
when i was 4 i started watching horror i know that they can handle it XD
Well, some do handle it better than others.
Oh, the Bunyip's very bad,

The saltwater crocodile is the primary suspect of many sightings of the Bunyip. They ambush you from the water's edge with a lightning strike.
This is the reason why I’m scared at night I remember watchin dis in 2007 when I was 5🤦🏿
That Roar is Freakishly Inhuman...
Mix that with an eerie piano and....you get this.
DanielChannel57 Definitely one of the Scariest things I've never seen as a Child

I hated this song amd its animation. It scared the hell out of me as a kid.
Somebody make a cover of this
They exist
yoram gross rules!

australia!.. although im old now and am visiting here, does anyone know
if that bunyip cave painting is a real place here? id love to go see
it!!!
Well, I think the cave paintings were animated, but the cave itself is real, considering that this was filmed in live action.
yeah you can tell when the bunyip animation morphs back into the wall that its a real thing, where is this??
I don't know. I mean, this is a rather obscure movie, so we know little to nothing about its production background.
I appreciate the upgrade in video quality, but the song sounds off to the movie version (which is the version used in that one upload that has 700k+ views on it). what are the odds i can win if i take this thing on with nothing but a knife and riotousness
Pretty good. I mean you'll ghave the most badass 'how I died' Story in Valhalla.
The Bunyip is many, many things. Scary is not one of them lol. He always looks like he's about to trip over his own feet
Dude, just because you don't think he's scary, that doesn't mean many other
people will take your word for it because, much like humor, FEAR IS

Uri Dalal Yep...lol
Do you know how many people went down to the billabong, saw the Bunyip and thought that same thing? Of course you don't, mate! They're all dead!
Uri Dalal you wouldn’t think it funny if you see it in real life and don’t think you can just climb a tree cause it can climb And snatch you in a Blink of an eye

Ok so .. .things that never happened
What??? Is this some creepypasta joke or something cause you have a Jeff the kioller avatar

Terrified of the Bunyip as a kid, and even now, I’m not a fan of it at all! This song, though, is really really good!
in which part does this come in?
+Hannah Onate Roughly halfway through the movie.
thought this would be scarier
Avant-garde
Do you know who wrote this song?
No I don't.
DanielChannel57 John Palmer, I just found it on the credits of the film. I was looking for the sheet music, but can't find it.
Scared the shit out of me as a kid, more than the Falklands war...reckon I could take the bunyip now tho....

This is playing back slow and out of pitch
Nope this is the right pitch.
Seems like it's a half-step lower than all the other versions of this I've seen, and the timbre seems a bit odd in the voice and drums.
Well, if you've actually watched the DVD like I have as a kid, you'll know that this is the correct version.
That doesn't mean anything, since it could be released on dvd in a slower pitch. I'm not accusing you of doing anything to the song. And I've been watching this since I saw it on HBO sometime in the early 1980s. I'll dig out my dvd to see if my version has been slowed down, as well.

Hi nightmares. :3
Oh hey, cool. Just another way the 80s fucked me up, no big deal.
This bunyip thing has actually been spotted in ancient times
I can believe that, especially as someone who believes in Bigfoot.
