Nebraska by Bruce is a phenomenal album. He was a big fan/supporter of the Punk/No Wave founders, Suicide. Their influence definitely shows in Nebraska.
No kidding it's an insult to Quake players if all Trent Reznor did was that soundtrack I'd still have him in A tier but I always enjoy NIN easy S tier for me.
I'm usually on board with you guys with most stuff, but I went back to SOAD a few years ago and they really grew on me. Outside of the "hits", they never really vibed with me in my youth but I think Mesmerize and Hypnotize are great. To me, its less nu-metal and more just SOAD solidifying their unique sound as its own thing. I personally appreciate the weirdness and there are some underrated bangers on those records. Obviously BYOB, which is insane was on TRL, considering the subject matter and occasional blast beats and then Attack which has a lot of hardcore punk energy IMO. I feel, looking back, that they are a good example of a band that is punk at heart, but in a different genre. That said, I guess I should take it at A-tier lol
Didn't get to finish until today and came to 100 Gecs. That band rules. You described it very well: hard to listen to at first and then it grows on you. The first album has a couple bangers, but overall not my thing but the album from last year was my second favorite behind Cup of Pestilence. I like to describe them as Ween (if you're familiar with them) if they started in like 2020. So many genres blended up into this deliciously weird milkshake that you would think you'd hate, but turns out to be amazing. I typically hate autotune but I feel like they do a good job of utilizing it almost as its own instrument in a way... hard to describe. Tooth Removed, Stupid Horse, and Frog on the Floor are all good ska-adjacent tracks that I would at least recommend as a start lol.
Yeah, it's hard to recommend 100 Gecs, especially cause the autotune is turned up to 11 on some songs, but it's definitely used as an instrument over a crutch, it adds a chaotic energy to their sound that I think is pretty punk in nature
Come on Tool! you guys arent progressive minded at all.. :p my gateway progressive band are Opeth, Mastodon, Deftones ( yes their newer stuff is very progressive minded (diamond eyes, koi no yokan), haken, tesseract,... you want the more crazy stuff go for Between the buried and me, Animals as leaders, Dillinger escape plan!
I never listened to any metal until now but ive challenged myself to listen to a bunch of metal stuff just to expand my horizon.. I like some Children of Bodom, early Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Pantera, Symphony X, Unleash The Archers, Amaranthe, Neophobia. I listen to a few hip hop artists too but not many. But i prefer punk and ska, a lot of 70s bands both known and lesser known too. Like a few stoner rock bands although i find a lot of them boring.
I dont really like Tool, but it seems like you have to credit them with introducing the whole odd/ chaotic timing thing to loud music. Unless I've got that all wrong, I think they deserve bit more credit, even if people dont care for the music.
If you ever want to see a thing to make you hate Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz, watch Blur bully one of the most likeable and respectable/impressive interviewers of all time, Nardwuar. It's like alpha male, ultra jock high school shit. Those guys are embarrassingly pretentious and I'm glad they got shit on at Coachella. Blur sucks, Gorillaz are OK. Gorillaz are at least more interesting and creative.

I would rate Ben Folds, City of Colour, and Nirvana the highest. With Radiohead and SOAD A tier.
