Awesome review - been looking for an electric sharpener for weeks and this video finally has me sold! $35 just 5 years ago - now it's $70. Thanks Janet Yellen 🙄

I just got one of these. It works fairly well, especially compared to my (admittedly lower end) Chef's Choice sharpener. I do most of my cutting with a (Japanese?) cleaver and the thick setting is really useful. I also like the fact that one can actually _see_ the rotating stones, so you know which slot to place serrated knives in.

Definitely should have ran those knives through more than you did, that's why they were still dull. Why buy a knife sharpener if you are just gonna say "ehh its still dull but I'm not going to run it through anymore". Really sold the machine short in my opinion.

The instructions say to alternate sides, with a total of three passes per side.

This is a really good review. I will buy the 08800- seems to be a good enough product. $25 seems reasonable as I have or won't use a stone. I see this product get some hate but I suspect it is from knife snobs who can afford high end stuff.

I like kitchen IQ but I don't know what the angles are? Are they combines or just one side in degrees? If one side then why did I ruin my Gerber pocket knife.

Ok, the demonstration was nice, but why you didn't show any demonstration on the first stage of the knife sharpener? It is there for a reason, right? You never even mentioned it.

Reading the directions, the first position is only for seriously dull knives or ones that have never been sharpened.

You can get this one for $54 on Amazon now, but there are even less expensive ones from Presto. If you consider time is money, then you'll see the value. It only takes 30 seconds to get knives as sharp as you'll need! Good luck!

Okay, you're right. The listing on Amazon says $54 but actually, when you follow the links it takes you to a seller marketplace where the cheapest is $63 + $7 in shipping. You can see it at: amzn.to/2CrlksW
Sorry about that. Amazon does weird thing!

I believe the blade is supposed to be pressed against the black side not the orange side. The orange side moves all the way out giving you the wrong angle.

    • @knifeup7566
      @knifeup7566  5 років тому

perhaps! But my blades were satisfyingly sharp with the orange side! I was happier with the results than I let on! If you're right, that's proof it works both ways.

@@knifeup7566 I watched the manufacturers video closely to see which side. Besides the orange side moves which gives you a fluctuating angle. My blades are sharp too. Also surprised me.

@@knifeup7566 You demonstrated how to use the sharpener correctly. The knife lays against the face of the orange side. The orange pieces do move when sharpening the knife if you put to much pressure on the side. But if you use it as a guide (which it appeared you were doing) then they won't move to much. Using the black side may work initially but I wouldn't be surprised if it ruins the Presto in time. Thank you for the Video. Have you tried serrated knifes? I have a few and wanted to see a demo so i do it correctly.

@@davidspiker9001 The sliding orange side is to change the sharpening angle for various thicknesses of blades. The instructions specifically say to place the blade against the _outside_ of the slot, thus adjusting the angle for the size of the blade. The grinding wheels themselves are fixed in place. Obviously, for single sided blades, one would sharpen only the angled side of the blade, except for serrated blades, where one would sharpen only the flat side.

@Stefan Frankel , I have some updated information from my experience with my Knife sharpener. First, I have also noticed that one side of whatever knife I'm sharpening gets nice and sharp while the other side doesn't get very sharp at all. When I focus on trying to get both sides to be Equally sharp I have noticed that my efforts always seems to dull one side. Even if it's still sharper than when I started. I reached out to customer service several times and after sending them the serial number, Make, model, and multiple pictures of the sharpener and the knives I was trying to Sharpen I always got the same reply. As I'm sure most could guess they immediately told me to read the directions and listed the steps on how to sharpen knives. I read the instructions and know how to use it. I explained this on multiple occasions with no help, replacement sharpener, or my money back. Very disappointed overall.

It’s a 3 stage sharpening he skipped the first part and he needs to change it to thin settings for those knifes

I agree it's a chore. Every knife I've got is dull as ~hit because I refuse. There's no perfect solution. Tungstens wear down, lapping is such a bore, rods are mediocre...
Maybe this grinder is the ticket. No Wagner for 135.00 for me, baby. I'm just concerned about getting a razor edge. Sounds pretty powerful. Maybe this followed by a quick ceramic. Probably not. Just forget it! Where's replaceable razor blade knives!!
