There are abandoned spur lines all along the main tracks that come out of the FEC rail yard in west Hialeah. I worked as a chemist at Crown Paint in the early 70s which was located where the Metrorail Okeechobee station is today. We had a spur which we shared with B&B Chemical to our east. If you drive along 20th Street, you can see traces of the old tracks.
    1) Our line came off at about W 10th AVE headed south.
    2) Another came off just east of W 8th AVE. also headed south.
    3) Just east of Red Road there were spurs headed north and south.
    4) There was a siding just east of W 1st AVE.
    5) There was another siding just east of E. 10th AVE.
    6) There were three long spurs between N.W. 32nd AVE and N.W. 37 AVE headed south that wound around in the industrial area.

This is teaching me about the odd things I see in my town. It used to be a Railroad town in the 1980's.

Great find! The spur with the ramp at the beginning looks to be an old TOFC siding were they would load trailers up onto flatcars from local customers in the area. SAL, SCL then later SBD had intermodal business in the Miami area up until the mid 1980s when most of the intermodal went over to FEC. The spur that curves to the right at the fence actually was used by CSX to serve Antique Brick & Store up until sometime in 2013. The old TOFC siding & spur beyond Antique Brick & Store seemed to of been used up until the mid 80s.

+RailROL82 “#RailROL82” Anytime buddy !!! A interesting sidenote . I hear the railroads are slowly phasing out trailers and going with all containers .

+RailROL82 “#RailROL82” Yes sir . It also will no doubt streamline their Intermodal operations. Just haul containers . No more need for the trailer hitch equipped flat cars. Also the fuel/money saved from not having to haul a conventional trailer with the chassis and tires . That's a lot less load weight by its self .

On that second spur (or the western most one), I saw car deliveries until about 2014 I would say. That granite company will get a delivery every other month. That's before that fence went up.

It's amazing that the railroads just gave up on local freight. You would think they would do their best to keep that business . They should have sent out salesmen to sell the railroad. They really made a mistake only wanting to do the Long hauls . When they loose the coal and oil they will only have intermodal

You are so right. When they had a chance they should have grew and groomed the business around that area. It's just as sad as the dieing citrus industry. Keep up the good work.

No I never saw any boxcars on it. or CSX deliver on it. By the way today's FEC 109 is all coal for Medley. If you want to film it.
