    I believe that shaving's the fad! It was perpetuated by the razor companies. They created the term "clean shaven" to infer that you were dirty if you weren't shaven.

    Many centuries ago, shaving a man's beard was a sign of ultimate disrespect. People don't realize what the beard really means because they are ignorant. Keep the beard. I love it. The greatest beard I've seen in the black bearded community. You've got charisma and you're well spoken. You're also speaking a lot of truth in your videos. Keep 'em coming!

      LethalPhatGuy damn right! I haven't been clean shaved since I was 20, even before I got married. I'm 38 now and I'm not about to start shaving now. now I've had different styles, beard goatee, etc, but, never clean shaven. I have a full beard now and will keep it that way until the day I die.
      Besides, my wife loves my beard and will even play with it while we are cuddling in bed at night. In fact, she has even told me on many occassions to never shave my beard. She thinks its attractive and sexy. Beard on brother!

    Damn you nailed it for me bro! When you said that others have a hard time seeing the strength of growing a long beard and being your own individual...that really hit home for me. I've had my beard for a year and a half now and it's getting long. I've had all the comments you mentioned and then some. I've tripped out on how complete strangers say crazy comments good and bad. But what you said is so true...a lot of times the haters are hating for their own reasons and it has absolutely nothing to do with your beard or choice to grow one. It's their issues and their insecurities of the fear of being different. It does take courage and balls to ride out all the negative people and stay true to your decisions and commitment. Beard on bro! Really enjoyed your video and made a lot of sense to me. Thank you for sharing your journey.

    I noticed some resistance at work for the first few months of growing my beard, possibly because I never trimmed it. (You can't trim you way to a big beard) but once it started to get some length, (almost a year) their attitudes seem to soften.
    Now it's all good...

    • @BeardedExistence
      @BeardedExistence  5 років тому +1

      Khemet Bey yeah the resistance in the beginning is rough but once your beard is a certain length it almost disappears. I guess maybe because they see your level of dedication to growing your beard and just leave you alone!! When I first started growing the comets at work were when are you going to shave or you should trim it down etc now it’s nice beard or I wish I could grow one!!👊🏾

    • @khemetbey803
      @khemetbey803 5 років тому

      Bearded Existence I informed the person that is in charge of the section I work in that I will be coming to work looking rough because I decided to stop shaving due to PFB. He actually stated that he understands and has a brother in law that has the same problem. Though I do suffer from skin conditions when shaving, sometimes it works communicating with the persons in a position that make decisions, be it your spouse or boss, what your intents are. Once that person understands no-one else should matter; in all realness it shouldn't matter what anyone thinks when it comes to doing something that doesn't truly effect them.

    Excellent video, so much truth in such a concise manner. I've had a beard since I graduated high school in 76, it's been short at times and long at others but it's always been there. Other people's opinions have never bothered me, I don't tell anyone how to dress or cut their hair so I've paid no mind to those that do. Today, as a 58 y/o white guy with a long full silver/grey beard I'm finding people in general are more excepting and comfortable near me, a little girl in a shopping cart thought I was Santa Claus the other day, lol.
    Good luck and best wishes.

    Wise words and great vid sir. The part at the 3:05 mark where you mentioned to think back to when you were 12/13 and being excited for the hairs on the chin is true on my part. Since I was 11 I've always wished to grow up to be able to grow one out. I won the genetic lottery, because out of all the dudes in my family (40 cousins on mom's side, and 35 on dad's side) I'm the only one who can grow one out. I've never understood the stigma surrounding beards that certain people have, or the fact that beards are considered a fad. Surprisingly my mom likes it when I grow it out, my dad despises it lol

    I got out of the Corps in May of 78. I have had a beard most of the time since. I shaved it off completely 3 times for about a eeek each time. I grew it for a year at one point and it got 11 1/2" long. It was cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I did get resistance at work and had to shave. Now I would just quit. Most of the men I've known have had beards, especially the outdoorsmen. It isn't a fad. Good video, my bearded brother!

    TRUTH!! I know what you mean by people judging you just because of your beard. I came here to ask if people automatically assume you're Muslim because of your beard. But I see in the comments that they do. Glad I'm not the only one!! Great video, love the support and motivation you bring! Much love!!

    Thanks for the video!
    This motivated me to keep patiently waiting on my 1-month beard to grow even longer. This is the longest it's ever been. I've never grown much of one out before, but at 31 years old, I figured I should do it at least once in my lifetime.
    There's definitely stereotypes that still exist regarding beards. Especially with what you decide to wear, what you drive, your hairstyle, and what music you listen to.
    I've been going bald for the past 2 years now, so I've kept my head buzzed pretty short. I'd rather just take it all off with a razer to avoid the hassle, but then again I don't wanna be mistakenly perceived as a white supremacist with a beard either. I'm almost out of options as far as my hair goes. I'm not a hateful or racist person at all.
    But I keep going back and forth with myself on whether it's a good idea or not...

    One of the DOPEST beards Ive ever seen!!!! Real Talk!
    I tell young brothers to get a job in the technology field or medical field for the path of least resistance on the job. Stay away from management, sales & marketing, ect....
    (They) don't want black men to look like LIONS on the job with a beard, even though we may be the smartest person in the room!
    I keeps my beard, long, strong, and healthy...do my job and get paid for my high technical expertise , versus how mainstream corporate I look.
    Good video, like always!

    Super awesome video! Guys growing a beard just for a fad are missing the whole point. At least for me, growing a beard is about gaining wisdom, self respect, self confidence, dignity, integrity, and as you said, overall character as a human being. Have you tried wooden combs, or wide tooth combs? Their great for beards since their natural, static free, and also help distribute oils more evenly. Keep the vids coming brother.

    Curiously, I received compliments when I first grew the beard out, and this was in 2010. The negative comments happened when I let it grow longer, and one of the places was not from the higher ups. The comments happened during a time when a certain group was prevalent. To a few people, I was able to bring up Puerto Rican history with the longer beard.
