I know at least 2 metalheads with strong depression. I will send this vid to them. Maybe they will listen to you, and if they do, if you save my friends, I will owe you 'till the end of my life

I lost somebody special to me recently due to a battle with mental health and it has probably been one of the hardest things I have ever had to come to terms with.
Two of the biggest problems I’ve noticed is that you don’t always know if somebody is hurting because the public face of depression is an indistinguishable fake smile, and no matter how hard you try and convince somebody that people, sometimes even people who they have only met once or twice, will miss them when they are gone, the pained part inside of them will refuse to believe it.
You don’t have to hurt, and you don’t have to be alone.
“Even for those who wish to die, if thrown into a large body of water with no saving grace, you will find your body fighting to survive because you do not want to kill yourself, you want to kill something inside of you.”
Thank you for making a video about this, Matt. It has helped with the grieving process knowing that more light is being shed such a traumatic and devastating issue.

Thank you, it is stigmatized in the UK as being weak, it needs to stop, my parents always said be careful what you say, so I boxed everything up, I've had narcolepsy that's not been treated until lately, anxiety and depression so yeah I was harbouring it all, thanks for raising awareness 🙌

It's always great to see musicians speak about mental illness. We're all battling our own illnesses and for you to speak about it and your own means alot. Thanks for this Matt. 💜 We all need to help one another

There's not a person in the world who wouldn't benefit from seeing a mental health professional. Like you said, everyone has stress, sadness and fear from time to time. You don't have to be hearing voices to be in need of mental counsel.

I actually started seeing a therapist lately. I think the more we normalized conversations of therapy.
Even though I got a lot going, I always check in on you matt. Thanks for being an inspiration. Thanks for everything.
And also thanks for letting be myself in chat on twitch.
    Your pal, friend and admirer,

This year I let my anger get the best of me and now I’m in therapy. Every time I walk out of therapy feeling good that I have a future ahead. I’ve noticed with the therapy, guitar lessons and karate have given me a reason to live. On a side note... Matt? Have you heard about a Cruze that hundreds of people are going to so they can train with the best sensei’s in the world? I forgot what it’s called but I’m stoked to go. I’ll ask my sensei today and edit this comment. I hope you read this because if I could meet you there, would be such an honor.

It’s so great that you’re talking about the topic. Sure, in Scandinavia we have professionals at hand, but atleast in Finland we are still just as far away from things being taken seriously enough. In a country with such high stats when it comes to mental health issues, we should be even more active in helping and taking mental health seriously.
I know too many people here that doctors just dismiss, because ”You’ll be fine.” and then it’s years and many many tries later that they actually get help. The system sucks, but seeking out help is definitely the right thing you should try to do. Like you said, if you know something’s not right, there is nothing wrong with getting help. You should get the help you deserve :)
Thank you for this video Matt.

The interviews of Frank Carter often are also pretty interesting to read as a male in this shape of society that we are in right now, most definitely when you are trying to fit the role model that exists today.

Spot on with describing that gap in care Matt.
There's been years of awareness but it's as if what to do keeps getting lost.
Self care is so important, and highlighting seeing a therapist is what we all need.
Sometimes people don't know how to do self care, or they do and feel guilty for doing so. Yet no one should feel that (self esteem) and that is exactly where therapy can help.
Thank you for taking the time out to share your words of encouragement.

As a Scottish person I have had to suffer with my mental health because the NHS is under so much stress however I had my friends around and I had my escapism into music which allowed me to get into a better place. I had my diagnosis of depression when silence in the snow came out and that album allowed me to explore a lot of the issues that were swimming around in my head at the time to which I do need to say thank you

Lot's of love, go see someone professional no matter how you are feeling. As Matt says, it's a brain massage and it really helps! I started my counselling two weeks ago and it's really good for dealing with my panics and anxiety. We all can and will go through what we're going through \m/

Thank you for talking about this. It motivated me to find a new therapist, and it really means a lot hearing it from you.

Thank you Matt! I always look up to you since you work so hard and I try to keep myself busy as well and I've been feeling down a lot recently as well. Having difficulty doing everyday things, going to school and just overall down and can't even play guitar many times recently. Hearing this changed my whole mood instantly. It's nice to have a reminder even though I'm a psych major so I know going to talk to a professional is amazing and everyone should when they need it. But it's nice to hear it being told at me. Been trying to get back into the flow of things as well. Thanks for the video and all the stuff you do. Hope to see you on tour soon and hope you're doing good and well! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Agreed Matt, although I believe in dealing with "mental health" a little differently, and that is not to say that having appointments on the reg with a licensed mental health pro is bad because I do that very thing also on top of my faith in Christ. Have to say though, watched yalls live show, and I forget where, lol, but the song Strife was kickace!!!! Great riffage man!! God bless

I'm in the Uk and we are not that aware of mental health since the goverment has cut MILLIONS in funding to mental health services and we have a severe lack of mental health nurses/doctors because of it.
I've seen people before but it didnt help me, ive tried pills and they didnt work. What has helped me through my darkness moments is Trivium ( and other bands) music, my way to deal with m,y depression which today of all days seemed to go into overdrive is to put on my headphones and liosten to heavy metal at full blast and just scream along to the songs.
I also have a friend who I have known for 10 years whose friendship has gotten me through some dark times and she is the reason I am still here and i dont really think she understands that

My friend thinks that she will get a "record" if she sees therapy, and it'll ruin her jobs in the future. I've tried telling her that it's not like that and she should prob see one casually because she was going through some stuff. Idk how she came to that conclusion but it's super unhealthy. Her boyfriend needs therapy bad too but "he doesn't need it". yeah okay

How would you go about seeing someone if you don't have the money to do it. It's more detrimental when they can't see you anymore when you run out of money.....

There are places I've heard of where you can receive counselling free, however as I'm not American, perhaps sign posting you to psychology today may help. Or if you do manage to gain some savings, you can ask if a therapist if they charge on a sliding scale.
Otherwise I'd suggest calling therapists In your area and asking them if they can sign post you to where you can receive therapy.
I hope this helps you. Do not give up.
