Great demonstration. The only thing I would add that it is important to check periodically that the battery is working. Learn that lesson the hard way.
Yikes! I always touch the prongs first but I would imagine that was a painful surprise.
Oof! Good tip
Your eyes are so beautiful, im happy you don't cover them ♡ heart emoji@@UnsightlyOpinions
Wow, whoever made that is a great problem solver. I would’ve never thought of that.
Simple and ingenious. :)
@@UnsightlyOpinions You still got to be careful with those maybe go slower towards the end. I have some vision and I do not use those my experience with those and watching older people use one is that they do not work so well but that was in the 90's mostly.
I'm glad it's not a very expensive tool, makes it way more accessible
Me too! Too often things are not accessible simply because of the price tag not because they don't make a tremendous difference.
I imagine after you've used the same mug a few times you start to get an idea of how long it takes to fill up as well
Absolutely. You can also hear when glasses fill near the top of the pitch gets higher.
@UnsightlyOpinions yep! And it sounds different than cold water (as you know). Just think that's so cool
I was actually thinking this product sounds like the sort of thing that's may operate as more of a backup for some people if you have to use a mug or cup you're not familiar with the sound of, or if the mug doesn't have useful acoustic properties. While I'm fully sighted, I do often start water filling into a cup or jar from a faucet and do something else while listening to it, but I couldn't do that with a container I'm not familiar with.
Of course, everyone's relationship with sound is different, so I suspect it's far more important for some blind people.
@@UnsightlyOpinionsI usually listen for the change in pitch with cool water. Never been brave enough to pour boiling water. 😬
@@restrictedmilk Same here! ☺️
I made a similar device as my 4th year microprocessor course project. That time I presented my device’s use case to be a guard for water tank overflow (which was a regular issue in my neighborhood). But didn’t think about this use case that time. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you for the “loud sound warning.” They always make me jump unless I’m warned
My favorite gadget that ever existed. I'm not blind, but it's just so cool and useful for its purpose! Quality of life engineering for daily tasks, at its simplest and finest!!💛💛💛
I remember when I got one of these. When I poured hot water, I used to have to eyeball it using the very tiny amount of vision that I have, but this thing has saved me so much time and effort and it's great!
Nifty!!! I LOVE a gadget and this is a prime specimen!
The outfit and hair is giving Alice in wonderland and I’m here for it
Neat gadget!
I'm not actually blind, but I am vision impared and I have a harder time seeing the level of the water in my cup when it's dimmer, so at night when I need to drink water to not disturb others I actually also use the fingertip trick she demonstrated because for me it's easier than squinting over the dim dish light across the room
Thank you for inviting us into your world. It’s wonderful! Your content is everything good about the internet. I appreciate your existence!!!
Not blind but I use the finger hook method for pouring my own water all the time. Not only is it the perfect amount in the glass but I'm also easily distracted le so feeling the cool water hit my finger is like a natural alarm reminding me of the task at hand. I didn't even think about how this trick would be useful for those with vision loss too, neet!
Yes, same here!
You are a really awesome person. Your positive personality and attitude are refreshing. God bless you.
Wonderful info! Also, You have such a beautiful voice :)
Absolutely lovely lady and content
🤌
Had one. It scared the dogs too much to use it very often lol
Your dress is so pretty
Your dress is lovely on you. You look like a spring garden fairy who is really into a 1950s dress silhouette and I love it. I am curious how you choose your personal style since your inspirations and needs are different. Visually your look is very appealing, you put more effort into that aspect more than the average sighted person. You could do an awesome Goth look if you ever were so inclined.
Hope you don't mind I complimented your look. I wanted to share something nice after you taught me something. Your tips must help so many people. I can't see much from one eye (amblyopia), and always wondered how to cope if something happened to the other. Tried to walk with just the bad eye and nope, no idea where the ground is, immediately tripped. Someone like you is who I'd want to find while I figured out how to do things other ways. 😊
I absolutely love this content. My father's sight is diminishing and he refuses to concede for help. I'll use it myself and he'll swipe it when I'm not around. Problem solved and ego is saved.
I'm not blind but I do the cold water trick. I do it so I don't have to turn the lights on if I've woken up at night thirsty.
i love your style!!
Im new to this channel but her hair is fabulous and that dress is on point!
now it makes sense, it's for hot liquid! I first saw it demonstrated for cold liquids and thought most people would opt for something easier like the finger method.
btw can you tell when something is filled by the sound or other clues? (I'm not blind)
Such a genius invention!!!
tysm for the audio warning ❤
Casserole dish is great. Im sighted but imma do this from now on. My carpal tunnel syndrome makes me slip when pouring
I grew up camping without electric lights, just candles and it's hard to see at night, we usually use the finger trick. Although, most of us have a favorite cup and can at least somewhat pour from memory. Guests in camp can be a struggle though, most mugs are about the same size.
Absolutely neat device ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm not blind but i have severe thirst during nights (because Brazil is hot af) and bottles or big cups just don't cut it. I saw Molly Burke's video some time ago and she taught this finger hack and lemme say it's changed my life 😂😂 so i just grab a 2L pitcher, a cup and that's it. No more thirst or need to have the lights on.
That’s a super cute mug.
Very clever!
Ohhh the casserole dish is such a good idea I'm going to use this. I have such a huge fear of pouring water after some pretty bad accidents, apparently my arms are still looking rough after my french press EXPLODED when I bumped into my patio door. I got a vintage kettle with a really long shinny spout thats shinny, so can see the end and kinda hook it into cups to feel more secure. I have very good pitch sensitivity so can hear when its as full as im comfortable with a little tray wpuld feel more safe. Also could be helpful carrying it to my seat to avoid exploding glass and hot water again 😭
I use the cold pour finger in a dark room, having heard this is a blind solution some years ago. Reminds me of those made for tv items that are assistive devices
the finger hook trick helps me as a sighted person to fill metal bottles or whatever because its hard to tell when theyre full.
Same noise as a car, beeps when you're near and solid tone when you're at max
I use the place you finger at the lip when filling my water bottle at night and u don’t want to turn on the lights. I saw it done by someone in a movie and thought it was a neat trick and started using it regularly.
Your dress is beautiful!
My granda had one of those 😅 they always remind me of him now because the first time I saw one was when he got one in like 2008 or something 😂 I used to think it was so cool that that little thing knew when the water touched the prongs and it beeped SUPER loud because he was also pretty deaf 😅
Im not blind but i use the finger trick to get water at night without needing to turn the light on, or if i otherwise cant see what im doing. Its very useful
I'm not even blind and I gave myself second-degree burns on my crotch from noodles one time
Literally living on the edge by placing the cup of hot water right by the corner of the island
I for some reason use my finger when pouring cold water as well. The reason this is odd is that I am fully sighted. I think I might usually do it at night, and I can’t see in the dark at all, so perhaps that’s why.
Sometimes if i've used a mug or glass often enough i can tell just by the sound of pouring the water in how full it is and when to stop
That's a neat doohickey!
Nice!
I love this I got one that vibrates because I have sensory issues and the r old one I had kept scaring me when it would go off while waiting for the water to hit it
Cool! I’d love to know where you got that! I find the high pitched beeping to be quite loud and makes me jump too!
Have a one cup kettle so never have to deal with a boiling hot kettle. Place cup on its little drip tray press button and when it makes a farting noise the water is dispensed
I can see fine but I have a tendency to get water in the middle of the night, and because the apartment is small I don't turn on the lights as the might shine into my parents room so I use the finger trick instead. This is exactly what I was wondering about the other day when I got myself some late night tea and couldn't use the finger trick.
I personally do it in the sink, it's less to clean up for me.
I don't, neurological problems caused spasms causing serious burns and now I'm not supposed to pour boiling water by myself lol
hi, i’m unsure if you’re aware but the captions in the video are a little bit blocked by the UI on my iphone. maybe it’s not the same for others but i know many people have the same model as me so just so you know to improve readability!
Also if youre familiar with the cup youd know based on the sound it changes when filling 🤪
Totally. Do that all the time with glasses. But I’m a chicken with hot water so I prefer the screeching warning haha
This is interesting to know
I have my vision and I do the hook finger when I am filling up my cup or the cat water in the dark before bed and I don’t feel like turning on the bright lights.
I would hold onto the mug, even after you set it on the counter, while pouring, because I manged to topple my mug with the kettle hooked by the lip before (yes I'm extra clumsy I'm aware)
I did the opposite and over poured onto my hand once. It was awful. We are equally clumsy it seems :)
Is there one with longer prongs so you can add milk/creamer without getting too close to the top?
That dress looks beautiful on you
That's how I pour cold water at night. :):)
I love her
....I mean this in the best way possible; can't you hear when the cup is almost full? I mean; the sound of the water changes depending on how full the cup or container is, and so it should be possible to do without something like that? Or well, that it's less necessary?
If that is something that somebody would be able to do, they would not be able to do it all the time. If it's noisy, that's not going to work. That's why the beep is very loud.
Thank you
I swear I've seen this video years ago and now I also hook my finger when getting water...
I'm not blind but I use my finger to tell me when my cup is full when getting midnight water from the fridge
Kaya from one piece
Directly into my mouth bc if it’s not scalding, I won’t drink it. The inside of my mouth is a war zone.
How do you clean your house?
i do the finger thing when i’m getting water at night and don’t want to turn the lights on so i don’t wake anyone
Cool to know you don’t need to be blind to find it useful! :D
I put my mug in the sink. I’m really clumsy.
$5? mine cost me $60!
Finally an American who uses a kettle instead of heating their tea water in a microwave like a savage.
The need for making sure you put things in their place can not be underestimated, my adhd nope
You mean woman?
