  • Join Don from Trotec Laser Hacks as he shares valuable tips and tricks to enhance your laser engraving skills. In this enlightening video, Don unveils a clever laser hack to revolutionize your approach to engraving raw wood. Say goodbye to stubborn stains and residue that mar the beauty of your engravings!
Have you ever encountered the frustrating issue of unsightly staining when engraving raw wood? Don understands this struggle and presents a game-changing solution: masking tape. Covering the wood's surface with an application or transfer tape creates a protective barrier that prevents staining during the engraving process. Don demonstrates this technique, emphasizing the importance of adequately masking the wood before engraving.
As the laser works its magic, you'll notice that the staining and residue adhere to the protective tape instead of the wood surface. This simple yet effective laser hack ensures that your engravings remain pristine and free from unwanted blemishes.
Now, here comes the brilliant hack. Don introduces a secret weapon: duct tape. Unlike the application or transfer tape, duct tape offers a stronger adhesive, making it easier to remove the masking tape along with all the intricate and challenging pieces that often pose a removal challenge. You can swiftly and effortlessly peel off the masking tape using duct tape, leaving behind a flawless engraving. No more struggling with sanding, which can potentially damage delicate surfaces or intricate designs.
This laser hack is particularly valuable when working with wood that cannot be sanded or when aiming for that flawless finish that elevates the perceived value of your creations. Whether you're engraving intricate patterns, personalized gifts, or decorative items, this technique will enhance the quality and aesthetics of your wooden engravings.
Unlock the secret to clean and flawless wood engravings with this laser hack. Watch the video now to discover how masking tape can revolutionize your engraving process, elevating your woodworking projects to new heights of excellence. Your engravings will impress with their impeccable quality and professional finish!

Another advantage is that you can also spray-color your engraving then remove the mask for a perfect colored inlay!

Works like a charm! And much quicker and easier than using a scalpel to remove the tape from smaller sections of an engraved wooden plaque, tag or sign!

Any advice on settings? When I engrave it melts the glue and ruins the project and then the paint doesn’t only correctly.

That is a wonderful idea - the somewhat tedious weeding is why I wouldn’t mask and would sand instead.

what is the brand of the roll dispenser on minute 0:14? I'm in Europe and I can't figure out which roll dispenser to use for this masking tape as it is a pain to do it without it. Would a regular paper dispenser like wrapping paper dispensers work?

one layer for each side of the wood. It looks like he did two layers on one side, but it was one per side. (I thought the same thing at first).
