Tried what you suggested and having some issues with the masking process. I'm using Xtool S1 and when I tried your suggestion the laser is able to do the engraving in wood, but the engraving piece bleeds out making things even worse. Wondering if the problem is that I need to add more power. For instance, I tried the following combo: 50 and 60 for power and 200 for speed. Feel like I'm doing something wrong and not sure how to debug the issue.
Hey there, I made this video a long time ago with just co2 lasers in mind. Diode lasers use a different wavelength making it hard for them to use masking tape. It would be tricky to find a setting to work properly with masking tape as the wavelength bounces off the surface level differently.
@@opinicussoaps9820 this stuff was called vinyl ease but another brand I used called transferrite I believe was what it was called worked well but I couldn’t get it on Amazon before
So the masking tape you suggest in your link says on the product not recommended for laser cutting or engraving. I bring this up since some adhesives can cloud and crack your lens over time. It does not say exactly why not to use this tape for laser cutting, but it mentions other heating tools that it is NOT for. How long have you been using this tape for laser engraving?
I have been using it for over 5 years with no issues on any of my 6 machines. They say it’s not for legal purposes because it has a possibility of catching fire if it’s applied wrong or if a corner lifts during an unintended cut and they don’t want to be held responsible if someone leaves it unattended. As long as it is paper based masking tape and not vinyl based tape it will be ok.
@@FreshStartCustoms ok that's sounds good then! I've been using a different brand and found it was not removing with the duct tape method, so was hoping to try this one. Thank you for the timely response!
Amazon, I have it and other accessories linked in the description section in our affiliate shop with them. Or here is the link again if you’d like to use our affiliate link: www.amazon.com/shop/freshstartcustoms/list/3CGS2EAZVB7CF?fs=e&s=cl
No problems with it. Been using it for years. They added that warning to not be held liable for masking tape that comes up off of the wood and causes a fire. But that is all masking tape that has that chance.
I get mine from Amazon now because it’s quicker to get. All of the items I recommend for the laser including the masking tape can be found in this affiliate list here www.amazon.com/shop/freshstartcustoms/list/3CGS2EAZVB7CF
Thanks Josh! I ordered my masking from your link. I had thought I had the right Gorilla tape, but I was being impatient about not peeling up immediately.
That is a warning that company opted to out on there because some users were not applying the sheets of masking fully and it was lifting on the mid cut. If you apply this stuff fully and paper base masking to is save to cut if fully applied. Do not cut anything vinyl based like the clear coated masking.
can i ask a question unrelated to masking?! i sometimes laser puzzlepieces, and when i cut them out of acrylic the pieces melt in an uneven way. that leads to the pieces not quite matching, since the thinner parts melted more than the thicker ones. is there any way to deal with this problem? (i use 2mm acrylic)
The material should be the same thickness across so when you say thinner parts, do you mean smaller connection pieces on one side and the other side connected pieces are bigger? If so the only things I can think of is coming up with custom settings to help this. So for example increase the speed of the laser so it can’t melt small areas and then do more than one pass of the the laser (meaning two or more cuts at the faster speed) until it cuts out so it’s not melted and hopefully has less kerf that way. I hope that helps.
You can do that too. For this example I wanted to show the other tips after as well. Plus it really would have be a waste of duct tape in this example as it was unnecessary to put it over the full project to get the large piece off. For finer detailed engravings I would have put it over the full project, then let it sit for a bit and pull it off.
Thanks..this is amazing for someone who does alot of intricate lines..weeding can take hours
You’re welcome
I NEVER knew what the point of the ribs on the brandishing tool was for... I never even gave it any thought. Mind blown! Thank you!!!

I'm pretty sure it's actually for keeping a tumbler from rolling while you put stickers on it or other work on it.

What brand application paper do you recommend

Hi, I wanted to know where you get your material from?
Amazon, I have it and other accessories linked in the description section in our affiliate shop with them. Or here is the link again if you’d like to use our affiliate link:

The masking paper hun have here, Vinyl Ease product info say it’s not suitable for laser use or cutting… do you have any problems with it?

Huh. I actually thought the dice looked better with the charring, it looks more 3D. 😜
The burns can add unique looks for sure. This was just to demonstrate masking tape lol

(ya i meant the puzzle pieces don't connect seemlessly)

Why don't you just run the duct tape over the whole part and pull off all the masking tape at once?
