I had mine today with WestGTA. Was under a sedation, I fell asleep and I didn't feel anything. Not bad really. No need to worry guys. Go for the sedative! No pain at all.
Just to ease everyone minds about the Endoscopy. I had mine done today. If you are getting sedated than you'll not even notice It. I totally went in today so freaked out and worried with so much anxiety. Everyone was super nice and literally when they start they tell you to take a couple of deep breaths in to fall asleep and your literally sleeping by the 4th breath and wake up and its done before you even know it. Just relax dont get scared it'll be fine. Some people says it the best sleep they've had in a while :)
Yea, you can do that too if you have too much anxiety. I didn't want to stay in the hospital for 3+ hours. My took only 5 min without sedation so I was quickly out the door!
Emily Ostapovich Oh i have mine in ten days, i heard so many things about gastroscopy that i am on edge right now, but since i have gastrytits i must do it, just to say i have aranchophoby but i would rather have tarantula on my hand then go for gastroscopy,
My only advice is: if you are not getting sedated, ask for the spray to make your throat insensible; when you start to gag, just relax and breathe deep. Also, you can easily breathe through the mouth so, no, you won't suffocate.
I read this comment 3 hours ago and it made me panic. I then went for the gastroscopy 2 hours ago. You literally couldn’t have summed up the feeling any better.
My experience was a very positive one. I was absolutely terrified of having it done so I told the nurses and doctors this and and also how when I had a colonoscopy earlier this year the sedation didn't work. So they gave me the throat spray, 4mg of midazolam and 50 mcg of fentanyl and i literally can't remember a thing about the procedure. It was just like I'd had a general anesthetic. I did gag a little when they took it out but I was so out of it that I didn't care at all. It's surreal but such a relief. I didn't even have a sore throat after. The only problem was a stomach ache because presumably they put air inside me and I've also got a blister on my lip. From the mouth piece? I don't know. But I hope other people have a good procedure like mine.
I had Gastroscopy today, I was very scared at first, that I had to take a sedation. I didn’t know when I fall asleep, I woke some minutes later, I was like are you done or we are just starting 😂😂😂
All of your pronunciations were correct - except , oddly, Throat. I had a gastroscopy two weeks ago. It was horrible. The endoscopist was a burly Russian guy who just roughly rammed the tube down my throat. I chose the throat spray rather than the sedative - never again, sedative every time. There will be more of them for me, assuming I live long enough, as they found a pre cancerous condition, which needs constant monitoring, so frequent gastroscopies - great !
I had this done just today! I didn’t enjoy it, although I was sort of half asleep and sedated. It was like, someone shoving something down my throat as I’m falling asleep. It wasn’t too painful, but the sensation of something being shoved down your throat sucks. I think I almost threw up a couple times.
Today I had a gastroscopy / endoscopy along with a colonoscopy! I wanted to share my experience as prior to my procedure I was frantically looking for peoples experiences so I knew what to expect. Firstly I’ll just say everyone is different and has a different reaction. Firstly, I was a nervous reck during my consult and I was honest with my doctor and told him the day of the procedure I think I’ll have a hard time getting to the hospital due to nerves so he prescribed me Ativan to help me not feel so anxious prior which I think is s great help if you get naturally anxious before procedures! Anyways, I used the bowel kit bi peglyte which contains 3 tablets and 2 sachets to mix each in one lite of water! So I took the tables around 2pm and after about 2 hours I felt very very very nauseous so I immediately went to the shower and let the warm water run on my back which helped a bit & when I got out of the shower I put on anti nausea bracelets which are bracelets that press down on pressure points to help relieve nausea naturally ( I purchased them from a drug store ) they seemed to help around 8pm I had to drink my first litre and in my experience it was worse cold and took forever to drink but never made me feel nauseous sick or bloated and I only had mild cramping that would come and go it took me nearly 5 hours to finish the first litre though which I do not recommend because I didn’t get much sleep as I had to get up at 530am to drink my other litre which went a lot faster (only 2.5 hours) I was concerned that my bowels weren’t ready as my stool was clear but it was bright yellow.. when I left I took 1mg of Ativan to help my anxiety ONCE I GOT TO THE HOSPITAL I feel as if the Ativan didn’t really help but it did make my heart to not race and helped me to be compliant. They then took me back to a bed where I could change into the hospital gown and put on a hair net then they tried to start an iv that took close to 45 mins as they couldn’t get any of my veins to corporate but they were very sweet about it and only poked me twice the first time in my right wrist which didn’t work and then again in my left hand After that the rolled me into the procedure room and I noticed the doctor immediately starting the sedation and then he sprayed my throat with a numbing spray that was absolutely horrible then the fitted me with a mouth guard and this is where things got a bit blurry but I remember having my eyes open and feeling the scope in my throat but I don’t remember gagging panicking or feeling like I couldn’t breathe next thing I knew they pulled it out and then I was watching the colonoscopy part but again no pain or discomfort after that they wheeled me back to my room and told me I’d have to wait a hour before I could eat or drink due to the throat spray So overall I’d say that drinking the prep and getting the iv were the worst parts for me but they were tolerable! I’m a very anxious person and get nauseous very easily when I’m anxious so I was very nervous but all in all it wasn’t a horrible experience all though I haven’t really felt hungry since and I’ve been done for about 8.5 hours THINGS ID SUGGEST If you do read people’s experiences remember everyone is different I would recommend sedation especially if you are anxious Drinking the prep with breaks helps you to not feel as sick Try hard to drink the prep in the recommended time so you can get more sleep And if you’re very nervous ask if they can give you something like Ativan that you can take on the way to your procedure MY RESULTS they found mild gastritis and recommended I try to not over indulge in food that may cause acid reflux They didn’t find any polyps but did take multiple biopsies from both the gastroscopy and colonoscopy so I just have to wait for those results & next week I get more blood taken and do a hida scan yay 😒 So as of currently I have no diagnosis the stool in my blood which is frustrating but what can you do? They said I have fissures but with the snout r I bleed sometimes it’s hard to say if that’s just fissures as I occasionally fill the toilet bowl with blood so I’m not sure where they will go from here but hopefully they’ll find the source and stop the bleeding soon
I had one last saturday and you are right. The worse thing is the gagging. But that cant be helped and everyone does it, its a natural instinct. An hour after I felt perfectly fine and normal again.
when I had gastroscopy and colonoscopy, they put me under sedation with propofol. And I guess it's a lot easier this way...being completely knocked out during this procedure.. so I am just wondering, why are there doctors that don't put patients under intravenous anesthesia during this ? If there is not a health risk for the specific patient ofcourse?
I had anestesia and the gastroscopy was fine but then I thowed up the whole day and had nausea for 2 days bc of anxiety I had before so yeah not everyone one react the same way to anestesia
♡ There’s nothing to be afraid of sweetie; trust me,you’ll get completely knocked out and you won’t feel anything-trust me. One week to go for me on 22. Oct -20. Edit. It is over. Gagging just came, had difficulties with swallowing when ordered. (Try to swallow mouth open...) not so bad after all.
Had this done today and I was terrified because the last one I had was not good. That was without sedation but this time it was a different hospital and fourteen years later. This time I had sedation and it went really well. I am prone to panic attacks and really freaked out without sedation so I would advise anyone who has anxiety to have sedation. You hardly feel a thing!
This needs to be said/read... I had my gastroscopy 2 hours ago, and I’m reading people saying “it’s so easy you won’t even feel it” and then discovering that they were sedated, I’m sorry but if you were sedated your comment literally becomes invalid on the “experience”. I just had mine, no sedation, as wanted to be able to feel fresh for rest of day and not write the day off for something that literally takes 4 minutes. Saying that though, it was not an easy 4 minutes at all, it will feel like 4 hours, it also feels like you’re being pinned down for 4 minutes by 5 scary people all in masks. You will gag and feel as if you’re being choked for a good 3 minutes of the 4, you’re going to dribble all over yourself, and I literally had tears streaming down to my chin the entire time. But yeah, if you had sedation, you didn’t have the full experience, you literally just slept and woke up with a sore throat. So anyone reading this that wants the insight on what to choose, if I had to go again, I’d still go without sedation as it’s literally 4 minutes, but yeah, it can’t be sugar coated at all, it’s hands down the worst situation I’ve ever had in my life.
It feels like someone is choking you and tries to kill you. I had mine today without sedative and I couldn't last longer than 30 seconds, I've forced pulled out the tube from my mouth when it got deeper and refused to continue
Mine is August 4th I can't wait I haven't been eating and I feel like foods and drink is going into my lungs and most of all my stomach have been cramping
I was sedated during mine, I fell asleep during the thing and woke up later and had to ask if it was over. I had no discomfort whatsoever afterwards and went to eat dinner right after, felt completely normal. So if you're scared maybe ask for for sedation if it's not normal at the place you are doing it (At the hospital I did it it's always under sedation) I fell asleep for like 30 mins for a 10 min test, not too bad ~ better than feeling discomfort in my opinion.
Me, pretty vile. I nearly had one done at uni for money and I chickened out cause the spray felt like I couldn't breathe. So glad I did, once is enough.
Gastroscopy is not a pleasant experience and I also have horrible gagging reflex I've done it 3 time. By my experience its the worst of all the "-scopys". Just take all their medication that they provid, breath through the mouth like ur a bull going to charge at something it helps getting out the phlegm which increases the gagging since u can't swallow. Relax ur neck on the pillow. Holding someone hand helps a lot IMO. And anyone can do anything for 5 minutes, just hang in there.
hi thanks for sharing this video I have one coming up in a couple of weeks I have it going in my throat and bottom and I also have a stoma so there going there to I think I'm going for the sedation. great video and your so brave.
TheWorldOfNamine I'll try not to worry did you have the prep for it to clear your bowel out first? I have to take it the day before and I think the morning of the gastronomy not looking forward to it at all but I'm sure I'll be OK .just all the preparation for it all .
I just had one done, very violating first few moments!! but as soon as it was in it was not so bad. No breathing problems or anything like that. They told me it was like 7 minutes but honestly, it only felt like 2 minutes, probably because of the sedative. Personally, I prefer having a tube rammed up my ass(Colonoscopy) and I'm not Gay, lol.
I had a panic attack during the procedure with the spray it was was a horrible experience they aborted the procedure and I'm haveing to return for a rescope
It's was the worst thing I ever had in my life 😂 in the table I really cry 😹 and actually you can't breathe with this gastro 👊🏽😒 worst experience ever...
+MissPollyKay Yea it is true. I cried a lot too(mostly just tears rolling down my face) and breathing was ok, it was more the swallowing part that was annoying. But hey, it is over now :)
Thanks for sharing your experience. let me say that you look like GoldenGirl , Shiny, bright , redishyellow I really don't know? !! sorry for my poor English , but there is something about You.
They ask you to swallow as the camera is going down, With the throat numb it feels strange. you burp as they retract as the gas comes out of your belly
@@signofthetimesthisisrealit6874 yes indeed. I had to gag many times and the nurses were always saying "NOOOOOOOH don't gag, you're going to have sore throat" but I couldn't help gagging really. My stomach was VEEEEEEEERY sensitive because of ulcars
Thank you so much, pretty woman, i'm going to be having mine on the 27 November 2017 Thank you.... funny though when u said you were just staring at her pants during your procedure I was going to ask what were you focusing on lol But thank you.. I'm not scared anymore ......

THINGS ID SUGGEST
If you do read people’s experiences remember everyone is different
I would recommend sedation especially if you are anxious
Drinking the prep with breaks helps you to not feel as sick
Try hard to drink the prep in the recommended time so you can get more sleep
And if you’re very nervous ask if they can give you something like Ativan that you can take on the way to your procedure
MY RESULTS
they found mild gastritis and recommended I try to not over indulge in food that may cause acid reflux
They didn’t find any polyps but did take multiple biopsies from both the gastroscopy and colonoscopy so I just have to wait for those results & next week I get more blood taken and do a hida scan yay 😒

TheWorldOfNamine I'll try not to worry did you have the prep for it to clear your bowel out first? I have to take it the day before and I think the morning of the gastronomy not looking forward to it at all but I'm sure I'll be OK .just all the preparation for it all .
Ann Thistleton I have to have the Medicare to clean my bowels
Horrid those preps arnt they.
I'm having mine soon...I'm in America so I make very clear to my fucking doctor that I don't want to feel shit...
thanks I am so worried I have to get it done soon
I just had one done, very violating first few moments!! but as soon as it was in it was not so bad. No breathing problems or anything like that. They told me it was like 7 minutes but honestly, it only felt like 2 minutes, probably because of the sedative. Personally, I prefer having a tube rammed up my ass(Colonoscopy) and I'm not Gay, lol.
I didn't get any sedative? But yeah, if I would've gotte the choice, up my ass i'd be xD
The one in front of me chose non-sedation one and when the tube was put into his throat and went deeper, he pulled it out by himself and escaped away.
What? That was entertaining I hope?
Oh God. I feel better I am not the only who did this!
I should have watched this before....I had mine and didn't realize air would be pumped in....thought something had gone wrong. 😖
You are funny😂. How are you doing?.
4 minutes?
You have very beautiful eyes... ❤️
this doesn't sound fun in the slightest 😢😭
Trust me I had my Gastroscopy... it really isn't verry fun! 😉 I burped like a pig 😂
I'm scared. I've got appointment today
How did it go?
I had a panic attack during the procedure with the spray it was was a horrible experience they aborted the procedure and I'm haveing to return for a rescope
Oh my goodness! I also panicked last week. Going again soon but will sleep this time! I couldn't rest!
The worst thing ever
Agreed!!! See video of female gastroenterologist, doing one......on herself!!!@@olivermccall3898
Thanks for sharing your experience. let me say that you look like GoldenGirl , Shiny, bright , redishyellow I really don't know? !! sorry for my poor English , but there is something about You.
interesting. Some doctors say to swallow. Mine didn't... I also had to boer... burp. Also dutch-speaking me!!!
