Nice ! Your video is well done and explains so many details that others do not. But first, let me compliment you on your workshop. During my 50+ years working in construction type work, I always stole (with my eyes) ideas from others to use at home in my workshop. You my friend, get the 1st Prize for the best home work shop in all these years I have ever seen. Clean, organized, and a cozy place to work, all at the same time. Perfect ! and my hat is off to you. Again, thank you for the video on the chuck box. I will be copying some of your ideas on my new chuck box.
Very simple and elegant design. I'm a cabinetmaker and simple designs are the best for continual use. Well done sir. Protip. Use paste wax on all sliding tracks and the edges of the panels to fit into them so that they will slide easily and smoothely. EDIT: use painters tape on the sides of the box when you paint so you don't have to be quite as careful when you're painting.
Subscribed after the “peeling off the dried glue” comment. You’re not the only one who grew up doing that. Very cathartic. BTW... excellent craftsmanship on the chuck box. Simple and elegant design.
I'm a master cabinetmaker. If you don't remove excess glue, that spot will never finish. Finished product like camp kitchen is easier to clean and will last far longer than unfinished product.
Hey, you built that much better than an IKEA set up. Well built, but simple design. My grandpa, and our great grandfather from Denmark were cabinet makers. Your work is top notch.
Sweet! My carpentry skills are nowhere near yours so I won't even try to make this. BUT, I will be envious the rest of my life. Great box and well thought out.
Nicely done! We did something similar but added thin stainless steel to the top. Super easy to clean and even cut on, with cheap knives of course. Didn’t add much weight either. Well worth the effort and expense.
@@ImGonnaMake, How about making the bottom of the “serving tray” out of either a plastic cutting board or a hardwood laminate that you keep treated with butcher block oil? Then do the cutting on the bottom side, turn it back upright to serve. Keeps the cutting scars out of sight when you serve and you can sand it smooth again w/o disassembly if it gets too worn. Also easier clean after cutting.
Those four triangles break the natural suction action that happens when fitting pieces together. The sanding also allows more air to escape to prevent this.
Great work i love the design! I will be making a chuck box with alot of your "harware-less" components. Brilliant! Im going to incorporate some durable wagon wheels and removable wheel barrow handles for ease of transport at music festivals
I'm not rich and have an entire collection of tools filling my tool trailer. The key was buying them used online. I'd buy from people selling multiple items. I knew what they were worth individually, and I would take the time to service them all, clean them up, take better pictures, better description and I would resell them, but I would keep the tool I wanted. I'd either make my money back or sometimes even profit from the resale of the rest of the tools. Then, if I knew I had a tool that would eventually need to be replaced, I'd make sure to sell it before it was too late and use that money to buy a new one. Took me about 5 years, but I've got almost every tool I want and haven't spent that much money, only time and effort.
That is a really nice design. I went with a propane griddle, myself, as opposed to the gas burners. I find the griddle suits a lot of menu items for breaky, lunch, or dinner.
I prefer the combo of a gas burner with a 2-burner (rectangle) castiron griddle. If I want to bake cornbread instead of making pancakes, replace the griddle with the Colman Camp Oven. Or, if I want to fry hoe cake and flounder, leave everything off the burners, so I can heat a fat or oil in 2 skillets.
Well done!!! I found that the bottom of my Coleman stove got very hot during a prolonged cooking session. In fact, I melted the top of a plastic cooler. If yours gets hot also, you might want something to insulate it from your wooden top, or perhaps something to elevate it slightly to allow airflow between the bottom of the stove and the wooden surface. Happy camping.
I get it! We use this just for car camping. My wife doesn’t enjoy pooping in the woods, so the backpacking and kayak camping I do alone. MUCH different setup for those trips … as you know. I’m just happy to be camping, so I like to have all the bases covered.
Hello fella, great job on the outside kitchen. Just when I thought your video couldn't get any better, you advertise that you have a forester. Top man, I have the 3rd gen diesel forester diesel 6speed manual. The kitchen and the car are a match made in heaven. Total admiration from the UK 🇬🇧
Thank you! I’m hearing all the requests for plans, so I’m seriously considering it. Right now I’m focusing on keeping my day job AND still getting time in the shop AND making some more videos. I love my shop, too … it’s kind of unreal to me, after 20+ years of having drag all my tools out to the driveway from the corners of the garage. Projects were way less fun back then.
Very kool build! Do you have any plans on this build? I have always wanted a chuck box but never have seen one like this and its awesome? If plans are available please let me know how to get them. Thanks!!
Awww man, I laughed too many times watching this. I became the 1,000 👍🏼 when you said you’ll use the stand to fill with empty beer cans if you’ve got a picnic table 🤣
Here in Australia a company called " Drifta " has a camp kitchen with metal foldout legs and wooden box with drawers etc. and a foldout table and also has an L shaped extension .Been making them for decades
There’s a secondary use for it. It holds stickers for the places we’ve camped. When it’s full, it will go on the wall and I’ll make a new front panel. But to your point, the guy at Blue Sky Kitchen just slips the panel between the box and the stand and there’s an easy shelf.
Superb video, fantastic design and craftmanship of an enormous box. You have managed to construct a box big enought to pack every conceivable gadget, doodad and fandango that you could possibly imagine including the kitchen sink. Where is the refrigerator? Where do you put food and caned goods etc, another huge box waiting to be constructed? Now what about tents, clothing and bedding, another huge construction? With a bit of careful thought and planning and using suitable compact and packable/stackable mutifunctioning items the volume could have been about a quarter the size. I'm waiting to see a good compact camp box to be designed by someone. Why not try that project. See how small and compact it could be made while still providing all the necessities.
It’s a big box, not gonna lie. Comes in close to 70 lbs. We bring a cooler for cold stuff and a milk crate for the food. I never set out to make this compact, my goal was to make camping more enjoyable for my wife. When I go backpacking, that’s the time for ultralight and pack small. Also, check the link in the description for Blue Sky Kitchen. He has some plans for smaller and lighter boxes.
The other thought I had on sizing is you apparently built it to a dimension that would house your stove so the only dimension you could adjust is the height. You have added some weight by choosing to not use hardware of any type but by doing so you added to its uniqueness. Nice build!
A great Chuck box , do you have a plan and cut list for it ? I live in Ireland and drive a small jeep, this would be great for me and my boys on our weekends away.👍👍👍
Liked your work, but the volume of your speaking is different from your tool volume. Had to keep changing my volume, if you know what I mean. But subscribed anyway. Thank you Wiz
Thanks! I’ve never made a set of plans before, I usually just make it up as I go along. I seem to be getting more and more requests for plans, so maybe I’ll see what I can put together.
Don’t take this the wrong way but, I like your box. Lol. You’re a nut. You’d fit right in with my crew. Nice video. I made one similar to yours before I even seen your video.
Finally! Someone who calls it a patrol box. Reminds me of Scouts

Love ur sense of humor!!!
This is the best design I’ve seen!
Thanks! I still smile every time I use it because I’m kind of surprised I came up with something sort of complex.
WOW
After your explanation on moving parts I give this an expert quality
Stunning

great looking Patrol Box. I wonder about making something like that to fit in the back of my Crosstrek while camping! Well Done!

Great build out!
Nice project. I like how it fits in a Forester.
I really like it flat across the top.
No heavy lid to fall down.
Awesome design on the chuck box - and the vid is great - looking forward to the next one!
Brilliant! Love the intricate yet simple design. The lack of hardware is excellent.
I love the concept--especially no hindges.
Great job I bet a lot of people would love to buy one

Nice job, you cannot beat a nice camping kitchen when you are out in the woods!!
Nice design and self supporting. And A real thing of beauty…now to integrate it into your camper?
That’s an awesome chuck box 😍💕👍🏽🇦🇺

That’s a solid idea. I was thinking about laminate like a countertop, but the SS would be more durable AND classier.

Marine Star board is a knife safe cutting surface
Super nice. I don't have skills to make a nice camp kitchen like that.
What a great design. Thanks for sharing.
The minute you said, "the joy of peeling dried glue off your finger," I had to hit like.

Ohh to be rich enough to buy all that equipment to woodwork like this. Day dreaming.
Beautifully crafted.

Really good idea. I will need to think and adjust for a temporary solution to a semi permernant situation. Cheers for the inspiration

That’s not something I’ve experienced so far, but we’ll keep an eye out for it. 👍🏼
Beautiful Craftmanship!
Nice, love the serving tray, side extensions, and stand ideas. Outstanding build!
I love these boxes, I would love to own one and probably wouldn’t use it much as I’m into canoe camping.

Awesome work mate! All you forgot was a bottle opener and a fire blanket!
Gotta save something for version 2.0, right?
@@ImGonnaMake pls upload part 2
Absolutely brilliant
3:24 I agree! I mean why use 68 clamps when 67 will do, right?!
I am so jealous. I want one so bad but have zero woodworking skills. Lol. Great job!

Fantastic build!
Thank you! Fun to build, even more fun to use.
This is super satisfying!
Хорошая работа. Мастер молодец!
Pretty sweet!!
Хорошая идея! И отличное исполнение!
Best design of a chuck box i've seen. So cool! Well done!
Nice one. 👍
Wow! Best design I've seen! Love it! Are you for hire?? I need a box like that!
That is genius!!
Good job. Very effective presentation.
Great build. Compact, but not too compact. A place for all you need. Would also be interested if you created plans. And love your workshop.

@@ImGonnaMake I fully understand. One question - did you use 1/2" or 3/4" ply for your build?
@@noeldeweese4975 Mostly 1/2" and some 1/4" on the less structural pieces.
Too brilliant. Great work
Cool, you are the Man👍
This is badass. I have zero skills in this category! 🤣
Elmers glue fingers! Yes, I remember.
I use to do the Elmer's glue thing when I was a kid.😀
I think it’s kind of universal!

Great chuck box and video. Ill have a crack at one over here in Australia 🇦🇺.
I hope you do make one! Thank for watching and best of luck on the build.

Best design yet !!! Ahh , you work for IKEA !!! 🤣🤣👍👍
You'll never misplace your glue spreader, as long as you stay cautious around the saws.
True!
I've watched a lot of these videos too. And I've come up with a great plan. Step 1: have a half million dollar shop.
@@nomadmarauder-dw9re That's a great first step.

Wow... nice.
Brad, I don't suppose you have plans for this box??
I don’t, but I need to make some. I’ve had so many people ask that I’m starting to see the potential here. Stay tuned!
Make a "cutting board" that sits inside your corner pieces that hold the legs on.
I picked up one of those super flat flimsy cutting boards. It weighs almost nothing and can be stashed about anywhere in the box.
