Call me a snob but I don't care; you can see the lax in standards throughout. It is clear nobody from Butlins has been through the whole experience and highlighted the lack of hoovering, shoddy painting, stained walles etc like what Tim has. Or they have and taken a financial decision to ignore it. This is a business on its last legs.
the l is silent you would have to be tempting fate to stay at a place like that!
hay tim are u staying at both wave hotel & Ocean Hotel in the next two videos
I'd have left as soon as I saw the dirty carpet. It is a sure indication of dirt elsewhere, and not acceptable. No thank you Butlins.
❤
We stayed there in January this year. I am a chef and we were told that they: "ran out of poached eggs, but they had fried eggs if we want them instead!" Think about that for a second...
Omg that’s so funny 💀😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, that's grim, but do they even claim that everything's made to order....if nearly everything is batch cooked then they really could run out of something from time to time.
🤭😮😂😂
Ha ha ha ha
Some hotels serve scrambled eggs from frozen ready made blocks which are then heated.
I so feel for the room attendants who have to make up those bunk beds! When beds fit so snuggly against the walls like that, they are an absolute mare to make! I've had many a sweary moment doing those in my time! 🤣 But there's no excuse for poor hoovering.
I hate making my kids bunk beds at home let alone in a hotel room lol 😂
Make a right mess of your nails too!💅
“😅” YES ,, forgot about those days 😂🥵🤣
Same here I have a loft bed it’s. Annoying to put a bottom mattress sheet on
my mum legit works at shopreline so i can confirm that is true
I love how thoughtful they are towards the kids!
You find some of the most interesting places, Tim. And that seagull was stalking you like nobody's business.🤣😆🤣
I used to work at Bognor Butlins and as a rule of thumb. The shoreline is a family hotel for families with younger children. The wave is for families with older children and the Ocean is more for adults. It's a great place to work and a nice place for a holiday. Food can be a bit hit or miss though. :)
I can definitely see that, though when we went with a 2 year old we stayed in the Ocean because it was the only hotel without bunk beds for the kids. The vibe is definitely less Family and more Grown Up Hotel though!
Good to know for those of us who don't have/want kids :D
Nice hair.
I would rather take my kids to a decent hotel abroad than stay in that disgusting place. The one near Weston Supermare is worse..
Why would you stay at a Butlins if you didn't have kids? That makes no sense to me lol. For the price of a stay at Butlins, you can get a holiday in Spain where the sea is warm 😊
I am always amazed when I stay at a hotel and the room has stains everywhere. How difficult is it for housekeeping to treat those stains or just do a general once over of the room to look for things like stains on the walls or on the carpet? That suggests to me that either the staff is under a lot of pressure or they just don't care. Neither is acceptable to me as a paying patron.
Nope, I am not ready to Butlins👎
I would say the housekeeping are under pressure and don't care. The wages I'm guessing they're on is a joke. Although I could and hope I'm wrong.
@@bedwitchwages shouldn’t matter but you’re right, people don’t care.
They won't care.
Even the 5 star hotels have stains. I am surprised at how little difference there is from the most expensive to the cheap, except the prices.
As someone who lives on the coast (Eastbourne) I can relate to the dirty exterior. If you repaint it, it will go green in about a year with the sea air down here. Best to stick to plain brick :)
Hi Tim, love your videos!
I work at Butlins Bognor Regis and have done for 10yrs.
I just wanted to say (and I know it’s too late now), but if you wanted to go for a walk along the beach, all you need to do is just go through main gate (the one you drive in from) you will see a little gap in the hedge.
If you take a left as soon as you walking through the gap, just carry on walking straight and then carry on walking down the pavement for less than five minutes where the corner bends you can take a right and an immediate left by a blue house, you will see the sea front and the promenade. This is the same promenade (just the other end) that you walked in your day visit to Bognor/Butlins back in 2020.
Not sure if you would have known this but if you ventured out you will see a cafe call the Lobster Pot, this is one of the best places to outside but local to Butlins if you don’t want to go anywhere into town.
I hope that you stay on resort was still a pleasant.
I wish to have met you and would have loved to have served you one of my resort famous crepes.
But maybe another time when you come down with the family 🙂.
Take care of yourself.
Dean K.
Thanks for the tip Dean, I asked the staff on the reception and that's the way they told me lol
@@WalkWithMeTim that is amazing, bless them.
We do try and advise as best as we can.
As I said, I hope that you w joyed your stay in the hotel despite the Bobby pin on the floor and the stains on the wall. The Butlins Eateries or QSR had only been up and running since May just gone.
The new building you saw is in fact an activity centre that should be up and running in autumn 2024 🤞🏻.
And the other build that was happening as soon as you walk into the pavilion is going to be the new soft play area, so it will have its own closed off building.
And it will have three age groups like 0-2yrs 3-7yrs and 8-12yrs (or something along those lines) so would be hopefully perfect for Casper when he’s a bit older.
The pavilion will also have a new top in the next year or so, just have to make sure everything is in place at the time of course. But it is very slowly coming along.
Dean K.
Lobster pot is amazing. Always pay a visit when staying at boggers for adult weekends
Great video Tim. Stayed at the Shoreline Hotel this time last year (Rockaway Beach) and having worked on it when it was being built in 2005 I must say it is showing its age a bit. In case anyone is wondering - which I am sure they're not! - I did the drawings for all those internal and external 'Juliet' balconies, also the balustrades on the internal staircases, also those big curved glass balustrades on the south facing balconies, also loads of other little bits and bobs of metalwork like a plant room access ladder if I remember correctly. So it's nice to point out to my friends what bits I did the drawings for, they really appreciate that as you can imagine! 🤣🤣🤣Going there tomorrow for the weekend for this year's Rockaway Beach, not to the Shoreline Hotel but to the Ocean Hotel which was the second hotel to be built on the site. Can't wait!
I did not know that Butlins still existed. Good that there is something for a family.
Use to be a red coat there and we now have a yearly reunion every year love bognor and butlins
great times
Great jay
Took the family to Butlins Bognor in December one year. The sea had been rough and flooded the swimming pool!
Were given apologies and vouchers to compensate. The vouchers were worth 10x what I had had paid for the holiday! Went home with food for a month!!
Good news 👏
Just checked and amazingly cheap on 22nd January at Skegness. 4 nights from £40! You can get the best apartment going. The seaside apartment for only £89. Cheaper than living at home at that time of the year!
As a London kid in the 1970s, my parents took us to Butlins every year. Clacton-on-Sea, Bognor Regis, Minehead and even Barry Island. Obviously, never up North, lol. - In the early years they still had communal washrooms and we used to bring our own sheets, pillows and toilet paper with us. Live in Florida now, but would love to go to those 80s/90s weekends! Fantastic family memories....
Lovely video Tim, the hotel looks lovely even with the partial sea view. The carpet and curtains look like it needed a deep clean. It was nice they had something for the kids too.
Correction: the vast majority of hotels and motels in America have coffee makers with cups, sugar, artificial sweeteners, powdered cream, etc in the rooms. Furthermore, many if not most, have coffee urns and the amenities in the lobby of the establishments from morning through evening. Tea not so much, but that is a cultural difference.
I've holidayed in Florida and Vegas and have yet to come across any in either the big hotels or the motels I've stayed at? What states will I find this as standard?
@@franrowe8696 they have been in every hotel I've stayed at in Florida. Vegas is the only place I've been in hotels (those along the strip) that didn't have coffee/tea, which I assume is because they want to nickel and dime you. I have been in hotels in Florida, Texas, DC/Maryland, Missouri, and California and they have all had coffee and usually tea as well. I would say it's unusual NOT to have coffee/tea in the room, not the other way around.
@@EspeoniaManga that's good to know, I was treat like an idiot when I asked about these facilities in the hotels/motels I've stayed at. On my next visit I will make it my priority to find one that actually has tea/coffee making facilities. I love a good brew on getting up and before going to bed.
Came here as well to say that most hotels in the USA have coffee makers in the room. When in doubt, check the room descriptions or list of amenities before booking.
@@melinda_coffee_nerd I do check and most hotels I've checked don't have these facilities or even know what I am on about? They are out there just not in the areas I want to stay it seems.
Your videos are beyond fascinating. I know it's a family style hotel, but it looks like a shopping centre by the sea.
For that price, looked quite a bargain if you want a cheap getaway as room looked good apart from a few cleaning issues, but didn't need a close up of the curtain thank-you😸
I had to double check .. because I know someone would say .. no its not a boooggieee
@@WalkWithMeTimtake the comment for what it was....your description was NOT NEEDED.
Just got home from a rewind adults only weekend ,brilliant the fancy dress ball was wow and we got to see Mcbusted all in all our apartment was clean but had a few damage bits . We were where behind the gate to the beach. 9 of us ...we are definitely coming back 😊
The holiday park videos are my favorite!! Tim should do some of the adult-only weekenders (or aftermath!). I watched the Butlins Minehead video before I went - and did find those abandoned chalets haha. But nothing prepared me for the insanity that ensued during the Back to 00s weekender! 😂
As a friend of mine likes to say when you get the kiddie toilet seat..
"Hey, look! The toilet has an "Expert" mode!"
Lovely blog, room looked very nice and roomy thanks for sharing, x😊
Crunchy hash browns...mmm Now when I go into a hotel room I do a "Tim" and look for stains, and there are just some stains you shouldn't think about. From now on I'll just convince myself previous guests have been throwing tea bags, which I had not considered before! I thought the way they had thought about children in the room design was excellent.
Nice to see the uPVC window frames that I made years ago actually installed! LOL.
Nothing like the Butlins I remember as a kid!
The bench you're standing at me and the kids call "break bench" Welcome to sunny Bognor!!
you mean for a rest or something else lol
@@WalkWithMeTim haha deffo for a rest! Theres a great cafe just round the corner if you're ever about again !
Great, looking forward to seeing 'what the difference' is with this Butlins Tim!😊
Hi hi ebony
@@kkrispy2009P Hi Hi Krispy! Hope you are ok!
Great video thanks, didn’t know that Butlins had hotels, looks great for families shame that it looked tired in places👍🏻❤️
7:42 Really? Every U.S. hotel/motel I've stayed in offers in-room tea & coffee, it seems a rather standard offering.
£ 99 is a darned good deal !
cheaper than home
Thanks for the video Tim! Fond memories of butlins as a kid in the 90s- hotel looks very different to the chalets I stayed in with my family back in the day! As someone aged 37 with no kids if I went there on my own I’d love to stay in the kids area of the room with the disco light! 🤣
Thank you for showing us around. I’ve never been to a Butlins hotel/camp or Pontins, so it’s very interesting to see what it’s like.
I never have commented in over a year on your channel before Tim but I very much enjoy your trips , I am surprised you are not working for One of the major TV Channels as you are so professional and enjoyable to watch
Thanks 👍
Hi Tim ! Great to see a hotel vlog at Butlins. Looks OK shame it looked like a bit of a prison. Thanks for sharing with us. Love to you as always Tracey 💕 xxxx
I live quite close to there. We locals joke that the fences are there to keep the guests IN !! :D
Casper would definitely love the bunk beds when he is a tad older but I think maybe Holly is too old for them 😂
Hey Tim, from Ireland and love the videos. Would love to see you and the missus go to Bognor for one of the adult only weekends. Me and some friends travel from Dublin each year for the 80’s weekends they have there. Fantastic place for a mini festival.
4 nights for £99 is a bargain, Tim. Looks pretty good for a cheap break with the family too :) I guess the hotel looks grotty on the outside because of the sea air?
it's 4 nights for £99 because everything about the place is designed to extract the real price from You in small doses every time You want to eat, or do anything. Twelve quid for that breakfast? I about fell out of my seat, until I remembered that that's their business model, it was when My Mum took me in the 80s.
@@johnbeer4963 I agree! A lot of places do that! I just get round it by not eating or drinking there.😀
I stayed in the ocean Hotel in 2016 , we overlooked the fair and sea , it was really nice
Hey Tim, you make the start to the weekend great with your videos, plus these are my favourite kind, good work mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Great vlog Tim. The last time I stayed at Butlins Bognor was around 17 years ago and obviously it was a lot different then. It's a shame Gaby and Casper couldn't join you...maybe next time 💕
I used to work for a hotel who asked for upfront payment for breakfast and most hotels I’ve been to check if you have prepaid or ask you to pay upfront before entering. Honestly I think it is a tactic to try and prevent people complaining and even if they do it is easier to argue a part refund.
Tbh from personal experience that “sorry” from the staff sounds like someone wasn’t at the door to get your payment prior to you entering and they were told to get it ASAP. The staff hate it, the guests hate it but management demand those sale figures.
Payment anytime at all is fine, up front, afterwards, etc, apart from one time - at the time you are eating. This is just entirely unprofessional. It's also pointless as if you were going to do a runner and not pay, you'd not sit there taking your time eating and talking about the hotel, you'd already be gone.
But, it is Butlins not a 5 star setup. Cheap and cheerful, which is fine :)
I love your content!! Keep up the great work, much blessings 😊
was there for tots week at the beginning of the month, couldn't fault them we were in one ofthe deluxe suites, was clean, comfortable and up to date
Hi Tim another excellent video and the hotel at Butlins looked okay. The room looked nice you stayed in. Thank you for making this video.
Lovely view of an abandoned supermarket trolley and some parked cars 😂
I clean some really high end holiday homes for a living and they all have the same switches as those.
Glass cleaner works wonders for getting them shiny.
Absolutely love your reviews!
I would travel around Great Britain with a railcard and staying in a wide range of accommodation! Before the internet so not posted our experiences, myself, a mixture of my daughters and foster children! We stayed in so many interesting places!
Great vlogs, thanks for sharing!
As someone who lived in bognor for 3 years for uni, the prison fence is necessary to keep out the locals 😂
Ayyy!! We love it there, we stay in the shoreline, think we were 217!! Haha that was Lucy that asked for your payment, she was lovely
They were just starting to build this resort when I was in Bognor in the late 90s
My friend once had me in stitches when he called Butlins Bognor "The Colditz experience by Butlins"... We used to go (with out wives) for the '70s experience.
Drove past there a few weeks ago and thought just how dirty and run down the exterior and other buildings looked, but £99 wasn't a bad price but it wouldn't encourage me to stay.
But enjoyed the look behind the gates and fences
Been to butlins bognor regis 3 times and always stayed in shoreline hotel. Last we have been was 5 years ago and stayed in one of the Nelson suite which is the one with balcony. Nice to see how shoreline hotel looks like now. Would like to go back there again even though the kids are bigger now.
We literally checked out of that hotel today lol we stayed in 139, the carpet was grey and looked fairly new so clearly you had an old carpet. Food was hit and miss, some nights were quite good but others weren’t great. Was heaving with families everywhere which was quite off putting at times
Definitely different from those Pontins Chalets you stayed in with Gaby & Casper!
Speaking of Casper he would love the playthings on the wall as you said Tim I bet it would give him a few happy hours.
And the Kiddie Colour Changing Lamp was perfect for him i can imagine Casper smiling at that!
I always love those coloured Lava Lamps even now!
Definitely looks like they were adding to the Hotel you with all the Scaffolding up!
How odd that little microwave in the Hotel Corridor!
The Room was definitely in need of a deep clean & shame the bouncy Carpet was stained.
I've never felt a bouncy Carpet beneath my feet!
Liked the little Sofa.
Didn't like that big air conditioning above the Bunk Bed waffing down cold air brrr!
But you looked cosy in the top bunk Tim!
Liked the full length Mirror with the handy hooks for Jackets.
And great storage for your clothes.
And I did like that swing mirror with space for make up or small items.
Didn't like the Bed head it reminded me of a padded cell a bit. I don't like a badly made up Bed either Tim.
But it was a nice basic room with an excellent view of the Car Park.
The Sea view was considerably smaller!😂
The Bathroom looked cleaner.
The Little Kiddies Toilet Seat is essential to stop accidents like I had🤣 falling in!
The Buffet restaurant shame it didn't float your Boat.
Certainly a bit more luxury that the other Butlins you have previously stayed in.
The other food outlets looked interesting too!
The weather was lovely for you there Tim in Bognor Regis!
Hope you haven't suffered with this Storm Babet!
yes it was a bit breezy lol thanks becks ill work my way through this
@@WalkWithMeTim I tried to keep my comment shorter aswell.
But I failed 🤣
When we visit we stay at the Ocean Hotel, never had any issues, very clean, the restaurant is what you would expect but again always clean.
I wonder if you'll ever release a video titled "I stayed in xxx - I wasn't shocked"
Not sure if it'll attract as much viewing lol x😅
Wait 99 for 4 nights. I'd stay in a barn for that. Absolute bargain. Guess I know a new holiday spot sweet. Cheers tim.
I had a weekend at the Ocean Hotel at Bognor. It was pretty much spotless.
Poor ol' Bognor town was rather sad...
Yes bognor is not what it used to be .. thank god butlins is here or would fall on hard times
Funny you should say it looks a bit like a prison camp - locally it is known as 'Butlitz'! Yes, it is beginning to look very shabby round the edges, despite the major rebuild in the last 20 years. Oh, and I hope you got to see the miles and miles of sandy beach this time round - last time you said it was a pebble beach: you were wrong! All those pebbles were put there in the 80s because the high tides would regularly flood the road and even wash pebbles into the path of cars and stuff. When the tide is fully out, there's a few hundred yards of very gently sloping sand, and it's very difficult to swim in the sea. Many times we could get as far out as a line of small rocks. Yes, I grew up in Bognor, in case you're wondering! Oh, and quite a bit of the original lower level promenade is still there if you go out towards Aldwick (where my family still lives), and that's also where the beach huts are.
love your videos always fun and interesting ❤
Looks lovely x
Hi tim love your videos and i'm from bognor regis and used to work as a kitchen porter in the shoreline hotel
Extremely interesting. I visited Bognor Butlins around 1985 with my then young family. Then it was all chalets and generally rather tatty but there was so much to do for the children. All that seems to be left is the gate that opens onto the promenade! Obviously the accommodation is now vastly better!
Love the carpark/seaview
Geezo.... Can't say I'm impressed at all!!!
fan from Wairarapa in New Zealand. enjoy your reviews. I find you're commentary informative as well as hilarious.
Makes me miss the weather
?
@@WalkWithMeTim Here in the states its been cloudy and rainy for weeks now. Temps about normal, but we have lost the summer, unless your in Florida or Southern Cal.
We stayed there 2 months ago. We stayed at Ocean. Right on the top floor and had a better view but it was not a very nice week. - people smoking underneath - took 2 hours to get to the room they had.1 lift working and 300 people all wanted to check in at the same time. Restaurant was packed and it was so cramped. Will never stay there again
Wow
Hi Tim I was here in September . With my wife and daughter we stayed in the delux suites they was nice and we ate in the deck restraint no complaints was nice.
Hope you have a good time
Ryan 🎉
Sounds great!
Hello Tim 😊 The room was nice. I liked the mood lighting and the light in the kids room was good also. 👍
I'm staying in a wave hotel apartment here over Xmas. Can't wait!
Stayed here with the family when it was brand new, its showing age .
Brilliant review. Seamless editing, and excellent engagement. One of the best UK overviews.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved it. Sometimes miss Gaby and Thumps content, but you owned this.
I agree
Hi Tim. Love watching your videos.
Just wondered if you ever get recognised, either by other guests staying in the hotels or out and about whilst you’re filming or by any of the staff at the places where you stay?. 😊
Heading to Mighty Hoopla in January next year so it's interesting to see where you can go eat and what the rooms are like!
Looks nice,thanks for the video
Looks good, I can't wait to go back to Butlins.
I’m only a few minutes in watching your video and I have to say the car park looks fantastic! I stayed in Butlins Minehead last September and the car park looked like a huge bomb had gone off in it. Craters and potholes everywhere. The buffet ‘food’ on offer was horrific as well. Accommodation was functional but I wouldn’t be rushing back there tbh.
Great video, Tim!
Luxurious i was a part time security officer/medic early 2000 Only called to chalets but im impressed
The Router in the room was a suprise
Nice hotel, better than many you have stayed in lol. Enjoy xx
i highly recomend the oceon hotel. if you are on the top floor looking over the park then you can see the oceon as well.
Omg! curtain clip should come with a trigger alert! I've got a 'thing' about boggies, just talking about them can have me dry heaving, had to go toilet for this one.. We stayed at the Ocean hotel, no need to check it out. It's exactly the same as the room you where in. 🙃🇬🇧
And complete with shopping trolly view.
lol its a luggage trolly they get left everywhere
Great video Tim!
Glad you enjoyed it
I stayed in the shoreline hotel with my mum in August 2023 it was really really nice!!☺☺😌😌
WWMTim, a very positive start. The parking was outstanding. 👏 👏 😂
😁
I had no idea these existed, I remember going to a butlins hotel with my gran in Margate back in I think 98, that’s been closed for years
You know when you've spent too much time in hotels when you associate the kettle with the chain :D
Lol I thought the same
Loving the vids mate
It's changed a bit since I worked there 1967 / 68!
Great video Tim the room looked ok apart from the carpet Casper would be in his element there well done x
This felt a bit more like the earlier days of walking with you and I like it ☺
Think I was that hotel being built when I went went to Butlins when I was a kid. I haven't been to Butlins for 11 years and so much has change big time.
I've been to Butlins Bognor quite a few times, just this year with a few bands! The Wave Hotel is the best hotel there hands down 😊
