    I never thought about using the mixing drill to drive bolts, I would love to see a video with a big whole saw on it

      I can do that, will add it to the list...I haven't actually done a full video on the mixing drill yet.

      I use mine to do 6" hole saws pretty regularly. It's nice because its 600 RPM or whatever max speed is a perfect speed for a hole saw that size.

      Massive SDS drills are also fun for driving in lag bolts. Ran 30 cm ones into concrete ( pre drilled) like it was nothing. Down side is if they get caught in the concrete they still want to spin you around 😅

      @@freedomofmotionhaven't tried an SDS for driving lags, I have a decent size SDS Plus one...but luckily it does have a clutch if it binds.

    Another great and informative video. I’m considering adding a 3/8” impact to my tool collection. Sometimes my 899 is just way too much on lighter jobs. Thanks for the great comparisons!

      Highly recommend the DCF923...it and before it, my 890, are some of my most used tools for small automotive jobs. The 923 can even remove lug nuts if need be, it doesn't per say like it, but it can do it no problem.
      Thanks for watching as always mrbreeze :)

      Do you have a preference between pin or hog ring for socket retention? I’m finding myself with 921 vs 923 analysis paralysis! Thoughts?

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage  5 місяців тому

      @@mrbreeze5556 hog ring 100% of the time. The only time to get pin is if you're leaving a specific socket/extension always attached like you would in an assembly line use case. Hog ring is far easier for most use where you're often switching sockets.

      @@mrbreeze5556 oh, also, 921 is the 1/2" drive and 923 is the 3/8" drive. I prefer 3/8" for this size tool because it's slightly more compact (the sockets themselves) and the socket sizes available in 3/8" drive line up better with the torque capabilities of a compact impact. That said, a lot of people don't have a full 3/8" impact socket set, so the 921 is nice because you can re-use other 1/2" impact sockets you might already have.

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage  7 місяців тому +2

      Yup, basically the same as the 800 but with the hammer drill function, solid choice!

  • @adameglen3593

    800 / 887 combo is the king overall. Are you surprised that you drove those bolts faster with a 800 under 2 seconds than those impacts? I don't know why people use impacts for serial screwing if you have hundreds of screws one after another! Right tool for the right job always!

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage  6 місяців тому +3

      800/845 would be my recommendation...the 845 feels smoother than my old 887's lol but I have lots of options (see other vid on just impact drivers I did)
      As for impact driver vs drill for driving lots of screws, the impact is easier to control, one handed over your head while holding something else is where they shine...no twisting out of your hand, no stripping heads.
      As you said though, right tool for the right job :)

    I just bought the 18v DCF787 impact driver. As I wanted to use it mostly on the car, should I have bought an impact driver instead? Will I have essentially the same thing if I use a socket adapter or is there more to it than that?

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage  Місяць тому

      A lot of people use impact drivers with a socket adapter, I personally prefer the dedicated impact wrench since with adapters you lose power and they tend to break and they increase the tool length, but if you're just a casual user a socket adapter is a great way to speed up automotive work just to spin off little bolts.

      It's not a model we have in north america, so not something I can test. However, looking at the specs it seems ok, would sit somewhere a bit behind the DCD996 in this video.

      The 1.7ah PS is pretty similar to the 5ah XR packs...I don't have any 5ah powerstacks. Either way though, it wouldn't have changed the test results.

    12 volt drills would finish the job if they were in first gear tho

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage  7 місяців тому

      The screwdrivers don't have a first gear...the drills probably would come close yeah, just would have been a long video testing all the tools in all their different modes - but if there's enough interest, I'd be happy to do it!
