    The 887 gets extra points because it's 10 years old. Not quite a fair comparison if it's that old, but also a strong endorsement that it's still working well.

      For sure, the 887 even ignoring its age is still a great impact driver...I've been using them so long that I have better trigger control with it, so I often grab it before the new ones. It definitely gets the extra points in my book too :)

      Thanks, yup, those 887's are workhorses :) I have two of them, one of which was my first 20v Dewalt tool (along with a 996 drill when I replaced my 18v stuff) and although a little beat up looking, it's still going strong.

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage 4 місяці тому

      No doubt it would help, just like a 5ah out performs a 2ah on the 20v line. Thing is, the 12v line for me is small and light duty use, so having a larger battery defeats that purpose. Of course if see one on sale for a good price, I might be tempted ;)

    • @magicscorner
      @magicscorner 4 місяці тому

      @@SomeGuysGarageAgree with the portability. The capacity is just one factor, the weight is important, but the max current is more beneficial for drills and impact drivers. I use my 5Ah with my reciprocating saw, works almost 3x longer than a 3Ah which gets overheated very quickly. If you have a chance, please test the 5Ah. Regards.

    I bought a DCF845 to replace an older DCF887 and it is a little smoother feeling. I sorta wish I went with the DCF850 due to the depth allowing it to fit in tighter spaces.

    850 is much more versatile with the stubby head. once i changed i never went back. i use it for cabinets duct work and mechanic work as its so stubby i can screw in plastics that break on a car the had the bumper ripped off (nephew lol), ive never needed more power even with older models and i often make joint beams with huge lag bolts (about 1 inch in diameter) remember faster is not always better! especially in drywall work. although i will add that you did that 12v dirty. shouldve used a 5ah and not the poopy 2ah.

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage 6 місяців тому

      I only have the 2ah in the 12v line unfortunately, none of the 5ah. To be fair though, I've never seen it kitted with anything but the 2ah, so it fits what people will see in real world (just like the other impacts on the 5ah's).
      Drywall just needs a proper screw gun, not an impact...with those speed is good :)
      I agree though, the 887 has usually had the power I needed and I'd be moving up to an impact wrench if I needed more torque (like driving 1/2" x 10" lags into green lumber).

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage 29 днів тому +1

      @@movaughn20 yeah, TTC did just check that one out a week or two ago and did have some broken bits. This is far more likely when using socket adapters on an impact driver, when used with screws you're more likely to break the screw. I reocmmend not using an impact driver with a socket adapter anyway, just get an impact wrench (who doesn't want more tools?)
      I guess if you are trying to decide 845 or 850, just pick up whichever is cheaper?

    What’s the difference in the 845 and 845b

    • @SomeGuysGarage
      @SomeGuysGarage 2 місяці тому

      The 845 is likely in a kit with a battery or two (there should be something like d2 at the end saying 2 of a certain size battery)
      The 845b is just the bare tool with no batteries or accessories (bag, charger, etc.)
