Owning a spider IV for several years, I just realized that you are SO good at playing, it is actually misleading to someone who might want to buy this. You can make anything sing, seriously!
You are such in incredibly positive person! which is so rare on the Internet these days! Wish there were lots more like you! Keep up the great work! And I'm also a HUGE fan of the MG100HDFX heads just like you. That Strat sounds incredible! :)
great to see you singing the praises of SS amps and affordable gear in general. although I do love tube amps I think SS has gotten to an acceptable level. I also love squires and epis. not enough youtubers emphasize practicing more and obsessing about gear and tone in general much less. peace
Incredible sounds from an amp that has the worst reputation in the universe! Stellar playing Dave. Someone needs to snap you up and throw lots of money at you :)
BDaMonkey all I will say is just imagine this was going through a better affordable amp. Boss Katana, Blackstar ID: Core, its sound even better. A good player can shine through a bad amp. A good amp can make a good tone sound great. If it was going through a Bassbreaker or a dsl40 it'd be epic imo.
Bought an almost new one for $40. I thought it was horrible until I figured out that the original owner hadn't cleared out the factory presets.... which are crap. I'm liking it now. Good totable little practice amp.
Great tones from a relatively inexpensive amp. I don't hear other 'reviews' of these amps sound as good, so you have a knack of dialling these tones in. I do miss your Humbucker guitars though! As always entertaining playing, Dave.
This video proves that the biggest part of tone is in the hands. Dave made that little spider sound great. And his focus on the more reasonably price gear is great. Just more proof that great tone is not bought but with lots of practice and hard work can be acheived on modestly priced gear. Also Dave i love your relic work. could you post more videos of you doing relics and any of the other mods or changes to the guitars we see in your video. Thanks for posting Dave
I realise I’m a little late with my comments here. I purchased this amp second hand a while ago and have been very pleased with it. The only issues I’ve had is with using pedals but I presume it was designed to be used without. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed this video. That was until the very second you pressed on the insane setting. I haven’t lost my smile since. Hearing a little Powerslave was a massive surprise. I thought that riff could only heard between these four walls nowadays. Loved the video. Your playing is wonderful. Cheers.
Dave, you are truly one of the best, tastiest players on the Internet. But as good as you are this damn thing sounds like playing through o’clock radio
Ive played Line 6 amps before, I've watched many reviews of them. And I really think they suck. I hate the way its sounded every time. Yet i could listen to you play through it all day. This is one of those instances, the tone is definitely in the fingers. You make any guitar and amp sound like gold.
I was cleaning out the attic yesterday and found a spider iv 30 i forgot i had. I sat playing it and lost a few hours with an old epiphone sg i had up there and a looper and had a great time. 12" celestion, I don't get why these get so much negativity they are what they are and i would have been over the moon with one when i was first learning in the 90's. Thats why im sitting watching vids of them now. Great vid as always dave.
I found some of the presets a bit clinical on the bigger spider IV models. I used to sell the buggers. The small ones were the only decent ones. Their bass amps are pretty swanky too. Got a lowdown 300 for bass duties.
hey Dave I have the same amp line6 spider IV and there is a noise gate just read the instructions and the hum from the insane will be gone The amp is cool I really like it but when I was going to buy a guitar and amp I didn't want that amp but ended up with a cool thing. thanks for the video man, big fan of your videos from Bulgaria. your style just inspires me to play even more !!!
I've been using a Line 6 Spider IV head through a Marshall JMC 900 cab (see you have one as well) for years and it has suited my needs quite well. I think people are too hard on Line 6. It does the job if you actually know how to play guitar.
D-Rock The Illest but other things do the job better if you know how to play the guitar. A skilled player can make anything sound good. But a good gear can make a skilled player sound better in the same right.
@@profd65 I keep seeing you post this across people's comments....who is "he"? Literally everyone who's comments you're replying to is saying it's not too bad, and Dave himself said he liked it.
I REALLY appreciate demoing with the forward pickup, it's so much easier to get a "metal" tone with the bridge pickup. Bluesly tones are more revealing of a drive circuits abilities/deficiencies.
oh man when you started to play yngwie and gates of babylon!!! Anyways its cool that you show that Solid State amps can be very good and make people have fun playing, as you were, like i could see you smiling while playing gates of babylon, which is very important. More than this obssesion with tone and gear. It's all about the music, not the gear! Great playing as always man
You check out the Peavey Vypyr. Similar amp with a pretty decent tone, lots of built in effects/amp channels and you can hook it right up to a computer and change the setttings/ save presets.
Great playing and ear color Dave. I have the 75 and just use it with as close to a Super Reverb sound as I can get and it works! I leave it in the trunk (bonnet?) half the time. Hey those Wilkinson pickups are no joke either!
I love this amp and I agree, it is fizzy with high gain on metal. I can put it on a 3 and it still sounds ridiculously heavy, and it's clearer with that low gain when you add high midrange tone. But when I put it on full gain on the clean channel, especially with a 5-way pickup switch, the blues tone is unbelievable. I have no clue why this amp has a bad rep.
Great playing Dave, love watching you flow from snippet of music to another...... it always fires me up to grab my guitar n annoy the neighbours!!!! Ha ha 😎
I have the same model line 6 spider IV 15 watt and I get ok to great clean sounds but the other channels aren't that good sounding but yours sounds great !
Hey Dave have you head of the DV Mark Micro heads? They're really small solid state heads that sound really neat. There's even a Greg Howe signature head. Look em up I'd think you'd like em!
Dude I just got this amp and it seems you an I Dave have the very same taste in amplifier sounds and tone with our 🍊 Orange cr120, fender FM212 the Marshall MG and now the jcm600 there is a few more that we share on common but you get the idea !!!? Rock out Dave !!!!
I have nothing against SS amps (all but one of mine are SS), but someone loaned me this amp for a while to see if I'd like it and I absolutely could not get along with it for some reason. A lot of people seem to like them though. To each their own. :)
I was never a fan of Line 6, looked down on it tbh. I recently bought an Echo Park delay pedal though and I am blown away. Great piece of kit, love it! Thats a tasty guitar BTW!
Loved the video Dave, awesome playing especially the neo-classical bits. I would have liked to have heard more clean stuff... bring out your inner Clapton next time mate :)
I know you are very partial to solid state amps digital and what not,but will you ever get another tube amp,I personally have a fender bassbreaker 007 and i love it,love your videos keep up the great work :D also have a fender frontman 25r as well, great clean amp with real spring reverb.
Its nice to hear you play with some treble turned on :) personally not a fan of your treble off tone, I like bright amps :) :) Still love you and your playing :) :) surprised how good you made this thing sound
The 'clean' preset isnt' really clean though. A lot of folk report some modulation at the end of the note/chord. I agree. I get a better clean by having zero overdrive on the "crunch" one. I like that one the best too. Not a bad amp overall though.
Oh, but I should add that I bought this little amp on the back of watching this vid a couple of years ago, so thanks for the demo. I added the FBV MkII pedal wotsit that connects via the ethernet socket. This, as I'm sure you know, adds volume and wah effects and control via the footpedal, as well as foot switches for the four models/tones/presets. It has good MIDI implementation too, but that can't be used when the thing is connected to the amp itself, which is a shame. Still, a nice little setup for my modest abilities and small studio. Thanks again sir. :)
Hey Dave, At 6:20 I dont know if you're playing thesong i think it is, but if it's not its almost the same. Preludio obsesivo by rata blanca. You should check it. Greetings!

This just proves you don't need expensive gear to get a good sound. There's nothing wrong with the Line 6 Spider if you use it well. Great video Dave!

Exactly!
This is the best guitarist I’ve ever laid my eyes on and I’ve been playing since I was 9

Bought this amp today for £40 and delighted with it. It does all that's required of it and more. An absolute steal. Now back to practice.
