  • I flew from the Chicago area down to Dallas (DFW) on an airliner and my friend, Jeff Alexander, met me there in his Beechcraft Baron 58P to give me a lift over to Mineral Wells, Texas. The following morning I met Simpson and Chad for the test flight with the new Genesys/STEC 3100. I love my new autopilot!!!

      It sure is Niko and the guys at STEC really do know what they are doing. After coming back from Sun n Fun, we have about 15 hours flying with it and she's been perfect. It was really great to hang out with you down in Lakeland. Stay safe up there in your beautiful SR22T. :)

    As a fellow 310 pilot, I like that it can mitigate the pitch up effect when flaps are deployed. Looks like a nice new toy that will make trips safer and easier.

    SMOOTH AS BUTTER! Can imagine you are stoked on this AP and no doubt opens up doors for a more comfortable IFR flight. Keep up the great work STEC!

      It really is Ryan...she's smoother than me! I flew back from Sun n Fun dodging weather and ended up needing a pop-up IFR to complete the flight and it was so much easier with the 3100 flying while I'm able to tend to all the other things. :)

    Wow! It really has a lot of features! These modern autopilots make a great safe traveling platform. I love the "LEVEL" button option for emergencies. Will have to add that call out on your emergency procedures sheet. As with any new toy, you just need some good seat time practicing the "switchology" on a daily basis so it becomes second nature. Well done Kevin! I am really excited to see your upcoming trips while you get to work out the functions. Congrats!

    Kevin and Jamie, I'm not a pilot nor a controller just a fan. I came across your channel and I have bbeen watching it ever since. I've been binge watching when I can to try to catch up from the very first episode. I grew up in sugar Grove in the shadows of the airport that's what caught my attention when I saw your guys's channel for the first time. One of my best friends growing up father was a controller at the O'Hare control center in Aurora. That friend is now a pilot for Southwest. also my best friend's little sister is a pilot for Delta I believe in California as well as her husband. I'm impressed by how the two of you work together within the plane. You two seem to have a great relationship and it comes through through your channel you have a beautiful family and you two make a beautiful couple. Travel safe. I'll be watching.

    Very cool but not sure how much of the RNAV "line up and land" feature you may use, but I was thinking... does Jamie know how to fly? If not, the cool part about the 3100 is "if" something happened to where you couldn't fly (I pray not), then Jamie could use RNAV to land it. You could put together a simple emergency checklist for her on how to setup the RNAV, when to adjust speed, when to lower gear, flaps, etc. I know it's not something anyone wants to think about, but part of being a pilot is being prepared (at 20 years, I'm sure you know this [wink]). A pilot friend of mine did this for his Wife when he got his Garmin GTN 750. He said the landing wouldn't be real soft, but everyone would live. Just an idea. Great video and thanks much for sharing (the steep turn would have freaked me out LOL).

      @@310Pilot I'm flying with a GFC 700, which from what you show, behaves pretty similarly and I am amazed at what they can do and how reliable they really are. I got my IR with the GFC 700 in a Cirrus, and it is great. ( The DPE made me fly pretty much the whole ride under the hood by hand other than one coupled approach required by the ACS and about 20 seconds on AP while I jotted down the atis). Just don't forget make sure the CDI is in the correct mode, burned me today doing an approach with my instructor. I said "what the heck is wrong with this autopilot?" as it was zigging and zagging trying to follow the loc back course instead of the gps as we were heading home. He said "the problem is not the AP". Operator error......

      @@310Pilot Thanks Kevin! I asked a question below but then went and googled cws to find out and save you the time answering that! I'll leave what I wrote but that CWS is cool! Google said the following: "STEC autopilot installed - CWSstands for Control Wheel Steering - basically it allows you to set a pitch attitude / turn rate using the yoke, which the autopilot will then maintain until instructed to do otherwise."
      So no need to answer my question sorry!
      I'm not a pilot but have always been fascinated by the navigation and IFR tech skills, and love flying. I dont know what the CWS button is and its function, maybe I missed it in your video? Sorry for taking up your time by asking but how does that feature work?
      The skills and knowledge required to fly IFR amaze me, to the point of even wanting to start flying flight sims again to teach myself how to the degree a cheap flight sim can anyway. But I can afford unlimited gas and maintenance with a flight sim so that's my option lol.
      The way your plane flew so precise precision or standard turns (not sure of exact term) as is required for ifr was amazing.
      Thank you for your reply Kevin! I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos as much as you are to flying them!

    Kevin, I’m happy for you and so jealous too. I could see that very satisfied grin we use to get at Christmas when we were all kids on your face after you landed. I bet you just sold a lot of auto pilots for these guys, installation seem quick too especially compared to what I’m use to. Thanks for sharing this with us. @@310Pilot That bonus is the real plus of that 3100. That's why he love's the TBM. Now if we only can get Fadec on board. How simplier the life of flying can be. Oh darn them Socata folks they just put out Fadec on the new 940. I can't wait to see if Michael is going to ask me if we can spend more money on that modification. Hmmm... Sic them Uga!

    • @crufflerdoug
      @crufflerdoug 5 років тому

      @@310Pilot I think that's a hugely underappreciated benefit of an autopilot: it makes my landings better after a long flight, because I'm still fresh! Also I fly in busy Class B a lot and the autopilot really frees you up to keep your eyes outside the aircraft, where they need to be. You are going to LOVE that thing.
