  • This is a video where I install and test the Pacific Sons washers to reduce/eliminate bladeplay and improve smoothness of action on my Para 3. I did fiddle with the action after the video and I have absolutely no blade play and a smoother then stock action.

    I see alot of channels don't mention this but on 1 side of the blade pivot bearing there is a small knotch it has to line up perfectly or no matter what u do you will have blade play side to side just spent hour figuring that out hope it helps

      Have you seen a good video showing what you describe? I picked up a new tanto and the blade play is real. Thanks

    May I ask why you only tighten the pivot on one side? It’s so much easier if you micro adjust from both sides. I personally like to tighten both all the way down and check blade centering and it should be so tight that the blade will not drop freely at all and sometimes won’t even flick open and if the blade is centered there is zero blade play at that point. From there you make micro adjustments on both sides of the pivot backing off matching the tension on both sides of the pivot so that you get the action you want while not allowing any blade play. With new washers like that it’s essentially like a new knife minus the wear pattern in the detent path. Just from my experience the process is a lot easier that as opposed to only working from one side. If the blade centering is incorrect use the folded piece of paper wedge technique and then tighten the pivot and work your way back tightening the stop pin (not applicable on para 3) backwards on the scale screws. I find that’s the easiest way to get the action you want and move the blade centering in the direction you need for centering plus no blade play. I get it those washers look worn or like they were sanded and not in spec so blade play was issue with out of spec washers but I’m just saying for the blade play, centering and action it all goes hand in hand if the parts are in spec and proper lubrication is done. Cheers brother, good video

    I was wondering if you were ever gonna put that stand off screw back in or leave it out 😮

    The Pacific Sons washers are cheap Chinese BRASS. They are Not the more superior phosphor-bronze washers like those that come installed from the Spyderco factory. And as mentioned in the comments the Pacific Sons washers may have burrs and be of inferior quality in specifications such as varying thickness. You would have been better off with a polishing of the Spyderco factory washers and re-installing them than to replace with cheaper Brass washers.

    I bought one of those little pocket sharpeners to just get my order over $100 for free shipping and it's been the handiest tools i have. Good video man, I have a Crucarta PM2 and getting it tuned has been a bear of a time. my Para 3 with nested liners is just a smooth tool compared to this dang Crucarta PM2 but i just wanted an uncoated Cruwear pocket knife. I am definitely going to get these washers if they are still available.

    Why do you only adjust to tightnes of the pivot screw on one side?

    I had no luck with those Pacific Sons washers. They varied in thickness, I bought 10, by .03in or so. Also several of them had a bad burr on the back. This was a while ago, so hopefully they have stepped up their game.

    I don’t have experience with pacific sons washers but I have bought a clip a back spacer and a set of omega springs from them. The omega springs were/are amazing the pocket clip is perfect and the back spacers needs a few taps with a ball peen hammer to get it flat but looks great and fits well too now.

    Can you share your view on Benchmade Bugout M390? Your view on coated blades (which is also on the M390).

    • @JadeGeminiM390
      @JadeGeminiM390  2 роки тому

      In my experience, Benchmade’s DLC / coating is great. Looks good and holds up well. The M390 Bugout is beautiful, strong, and lightweight. The only issue is Benchmade’s chronicly inconsistent quality control. So you may get one that’s perfect, or you may get one with incurable bladeplay or up and down play. It’s the lick of the draw. I would just buy from a good, reputable dealer that has hassle free returned like Knife Works or Blade HQ and you will be good to go.

      I’m not exactly sure what you mean. I mean these are fresh washers so I’m sure as they break and they’ll get smoother and smoother, but for whatever reason these seem to be smoother out of the box then my broken in stock Spyderco PB

    For me the best approach is to crank the pivots hard (not crazy) and then loosen them to the point of good action. Don't ever have blade play then, either with Spyderco or Benchmade.

    My thought is that some folding knives are just going to have blade play and if you hate side to side blade play, buy a fixed blade😆

  • @brianlash154
    @brianlash154 Рік тому +4

    things like blade play never bothered people before, small amounts of side to side up down blade play, spot rust, people will get on forums and cry about blade play on a mechanical knife riding on a pivot, its the nature of the folding knife, you got a bunch of moving parts and there needs to be some level of separation from their neighboring parts or the knife is too tight and wont move. Now if the play is agregious, and appears unsafe, sure. But otherwise

    I think , the problem with Spyderco , is the axle screw is thin and short…

  • @mackhomie6

    you neglected half of the pivot. I'd expect blade if I just tightened one side all the way down and then the other one partially. did you say you'd had this issue on more than one of these? I've only had pm2s, but I've had five and none had any play. I don't intent to take apart or customize any pm2s I have in the future because the factory puts them together tight and you can't do it as tight as they do, particularly with respect to the lanyard tube. the action always suffers.

      Dang that’s tough. Yeah I know Spydercos are extremely finicky. So with mine I know that at first it’s still had a little bladeplay but it was better. And then I tried to flip the stop him and magically it was the best action ever with no blade play. Like what the hell is that
