Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Layne Staley was an musician, songwriter and the original lead singer of the rock band Alice in Chains, which rose to international fame in the early 90s as part of Seattle's grunge movement along with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Stone Temple Pilots.
Is Layne Staley a baritone or tenor?
Corrections:
The Silver Dollar Saloon song Is Can't Remember, not Confusion
I've not used I Don't Wanna Be A Soldier but X-Ray Mind
Low tenor
He’s definitely a tenor, but is he a low or mid tenor? 🧐🧐🧐🧐
Layne have a tremendous voice range. I'm not sure about baritone.
@@secandamenshouse1333 he was probably a high baritone, baritenor or failing that a low tenor, some of the things that give him away as a baritone in the hypothetical case that he is is the fact that live he reached notes like G2 that are typical of a baritone and that a tenor could not reach them with that consistency, body or volume, PS: I apologize very much for my English, use the stupid translator :)
@@laynecit0_298 probably layne would be proud of you
He was born with an unmatchable talent. Hes a vocal god. He always seems to blow my mind and effect my heart ,soul and physical body like no other.
I literally cried my eyes out earlier listening to some layne I hadnt heard in a while..
In his last performances and songs I found his voice only grew more beautiful even if he sang more delicately. Layne had a way of sounding aged while at the same time elegant and full of strength
I know what you mean, his tone matured a lot in his last years and he never lost his voice like some people say
His vocal range is unmatched in my opinion. He was one of kind.
Yes it is matched. Mike patton had a 6 octave range and layne had a 4 octave range
Chris Cornell was far better.
@@wm1573err not quite no. Eb2-A5 is Well short of four octaves.
@@AmadeusD err quite Yes
Patton is also an accomplished composer, cementing his place on the musical map. He has one of the widest known ranges for any singer, with a full 6 octaves.
@@wm1573 I gave you Cornell’s range matey.
Eb1-C#7 for Patton which is, as you can see, also slightly less than six octaves.
So, on both Counts “err not quite”. Maybe avoid being sarcastic and see if you can learn something new :)
Layne was in a league of his own..
Never gets old EVER
His had a beautiful voice and great control of it!
Im stoked that others really appriciate this mans talents. Its a little grayer for all of us since he passed. I hope hes got more stuff released in the next life.
That’s for sure
It’s interesting to me because not until just a few months ago have I been being shown a whole bunch of stories about Layne Staley. His vocal prowess, his harmonies with Jerry Cantrell (I still need to search that out. I’m excited. I love discovering another talented vocalist.
I would hope the he'll so
Got the chills on the spine with the Love, Hate, Love as usual!!
🥰This song is especially close to my heart. I'm glad someone else feels the same way! ✌🏻💜
No one matched. A true gift to this world. We are so lucky to listen to this day to this talent.
Thankfully We Have These Treasures!!
I mean Cornell kinda did but alright be that way
I absolutely love how you said, Dude's a piano. This is great, thanks!
💖💖
This is awesome, thanks so much for uploading!!! His strength through Bb4 to C#5 is actually astounding… To get to the C#5 I have to be superrr warmed up in my mixed voice, and even then it’s so challenging, I can’t imagine doing that live. That requires another level of skill
Tkx!!! 💖
Literally thousands of men can do this. It is not particularly special. I am bass baritone that can consistent reach D5 in head or mixed.
I love this band so much these videos just overwhelmed me!! All these different short clips. Just so many good ones, truly made my heart hurt.. also gave me legitimate goosebumps, can’t get over it. From the bottom of my heart. Kills me
💖💖💖
Layne's definitely phenomenal..
Thanks for the awesome video! ❤️
+That "Wake up young man" never ceases to send shivers down my spine 🥹
💖💖💖
Layne Staley had a great voice. Rest in peace to him.
layne hitting a G5 in his M1 is probably the most insane thing ive seen vocally
If u referring to live gate love that was 4th octave
If u referring to love hate love that was 4th octave
Layne is a dramatic tenor. This guy was great as hell
If we're talking about the largest piano ever made which has 108 keys, the highest note on that is G5.
Dude is beyond a piano.
His range is very very very impressive but actually a standard piano plays from A0 to C8 :).
Layne Staley is my favourite singer, but this comment is nonsense.
108 keys = 9 octaves. Assuming a 12-tone octave, the lowest note on a 108 key piano with a highest note of G5 would be G(-4), with a frequency of 1.531 Hz. Bass stops being an auditory phenomenon somewhere around 20 Hz.
To construct a piano that goes this low, assuming standard density wound piano strings and a frankly absurd string length of 5 metres, string tension of 50kg (roughly standard piano tension), the string would need to be 2cm (that's just under an inch) in diameter.
Laynes highest note is a D7. Incredible
💛💛💛
You inspired me a lot to make this video!
@@vinii_ good work!!

Oohh my goodness!! Layne has incredible range!!! BEAUTIFUL!! Thank you for sharing this awesome video 😊💓🤘✌️🔥
💖💖💖
Best video of Laynes amazing range, f’n awesome video. I don’t want to be a soldier was mislabeled it was X-ray Mind. Keep up the amazing work I’m always waiting for another vid from you
Ooh thanks a lot!! So glad to read it!
Sorry for the mistakes!
awesome thanks so much for this so beautiful his range ❤
Tkx a lot!! 💖
I know I've said it many times, but now you've done an exceptionally good job! CONGRATS!!! ✌🏻💜
Thanks a lot!!! And I get glad every time you say it! 💖
1:56 Wow he roared like a lion, his voice was just magnificent 💗 You did a great job showing his rage👏
Thanks a lot!!!
I could just listen to him and all of his ranges all day! I have a lot of favorites but he is still my # 1 !
i get chills in all the songs in this vid, dude layne was the greatest vocalist ever holy crap
GREATEST VOCALIST from that ENTIRE era, imho
His talent is out of this world. It's so painful he's not with us anymore.
Layne miss you!! ❤🤘🏻😪
Thanks for including "I can't remember" here.
My favourite vocalist of all time
Some corrections:
0:05 The lowest pitched note there is Ab2. 0:12 is F3, not F2 1:00 is G#4, not G3 3:35 is F5 3:51 is G#4
The intro definitely wasn't G#2
@@seraex8209it is
The lowest and highest are all mislabeled here. Weird this obsession with Layne
@@seraex8209 sry I meant 0:05
his highs are crazy 😭 i can't even go up to A4 but then again i'm a bass lmfao, crazy good vocalist i love his G4-E5 area
His vocals are freaking insane
Nutshell gives me chills
LANE sempre lembrando ❤
Vós única, marcante
Ele era simplesmente demais ❤
Show
Pq gênios morem tão cedo 🥺🤔🤔🤔
Muy bueno, nunca más fue lo mismo Alice in chain, sin Estanley,,,,,
He hits notes (and harmonic chords) that all singers are afraid of. Seriously, can you hit a G# and rock with it likes you've just invented it?
You know, most of us in the circuit in the scene rather knew this 35 years ago it’s just now being analyzed by this generation I guess that’s a good thing.
🥺i miss the beautiful boy so much.
the goat himself
Noticing how when the notes go up the power and push behind it goes up too!!
Would have been interesting to see how his voice would have held up over time, can’t imagine his vocal technique would have held up particularly well

The piano man. No doubt.
I love this channel
I love layne
God please take away my pain
He will 💖
Take Mine Away Too
I'm pretty sure that highest note is a super overtoned A5. It's irrelevant, as this man had one of the most unique and beautiful voices of all time.
Holy shit, his Bb2s.
(if you're going to update this, he's got a great Eb3 in the Moore theater "Man in the Box" performance, at the end of the first chorus).
When Ann Wilson wants to sing with you, you have something truly spectacular.
I heard that the owner of this channel is passed away, unfortunately. But yeah, I agree with you.
They claim everything is overtones so they can get rid of Mike Patton 7th octoave notes 😂
Well done👍🏻💪🏻👌🏻
🔥❤

Wow
+1 more comment cuz' I can't stop myself 😅 So: --------> 👇
The sequence my friend! I didn't even mention the point. 'Love, Hate, Love' , 'Wake Up' , 'Nutshell''. Dude, it's like you picked it for me. really my three favorites in a row... unbelievable! Craziness!!! Big 🆙 ✔️
Dude Was Crazy But My Range Is C#0 To A7 That's Including Every Technique I Can Hit Except Whistling Is Questionable I Guess But Still I Hit My Notes Accordingly My Speaking Tessitura Is Baritone But My Singing Tessitura Is Countertenor
Yea.. morning..✌️
3:26 god damn my boy❤
❤️❤️❤️
Dude… that Love Hate Love G note is clearly fourth octave lmaoooo
The highest notes here are sixth octave, not seventh. False alarm is fifth octave. G#, not A.
Canta muito
❤❤❤❤❤😊
1:47 X-Ray Mind, not the Lennon cover
Hes a freaky tenor
I don't believe that 3:54 is a G5. If it was it would sound out of place
Baritono? Tenor ?
Era un maldito EXTRATERRESTRE caminando entre MORTALES, FUEinsuperable en todo sentido
Epic victory royale
🏆
I wanna know what people think about the backup vocal guy cause he was pretty dank too
Jerry Cantrell and yes he is.
Do Axl Rose
0:12 Wouldn’t that have been a F3? Because when I hear Bleed The Freak after, they sound lower than that example…
It is yes. A lot of these notes are mislabeled
😂❤❤❤❤
Lanye staley wrote goat sexy guitar 🎸
dude deserves his own classification eh or maybe classification shouldnt be based on the lowest and the highest notes someone can sing but what they sing at most of the time
for example im a bass i wake up a bass i talk in the first octave and i sing there too im a bass
but i can sing in the 6th octave
does that suddenly make me a soprano? it shouldnt cos im a fucking bass but yeah sure have the baritone v tenor debate we all know hes a baritone
cos thats what he was most comfortable being that was his speaking and singing voice cos that was his voice hes a baritone regardless of how high he can push himself to sing
what is bro yapping about
❤❤🎉😂😂😊
Cool video. Layne is one of the all time greats what a waste. Chris Cornell had a mad vocal range 4 octave. But regardless of all that they was both amazing and I'd be lost without there music. Nice vid tnx
THATS AN IMPOSIBLE QUESTION. LIKE WHICH OF UR KIDS IS UR FAV? ESPECIALLY IF U COMPREHEND THE MEANING OF EACH LYRIC AND HAVE LIVED IT OR BEEN TAKEN OUT BY IT. REMINDS ME OF THE SONG " STARRY STARRY NIGHT" WHEN THE LYRIC FINALLY COMES AROUND THAT GOES.." AND ON THAT STARRY STARRY NIGHT WHEN NO HOPE WAS LEFT IN SIGHT, U TOOK UR LIFE AS LOVERS OFTEN DO, BUT I COILDA TOLD U VINCENT (LAYNE) THIS WORLD WAS NEVER MEANT FOR ONE AS BEAUTIFUL AS U"
Beautifully Stated, Those Awesome Lyrics!!

Just like Kurt did. They both did.
