So there still is this amazing beauty in this world with so much hate and rage. If we all listened Kings Singers all the time there would be no wars. Just tenderness. And so much fun!
I sang this arrangement with my high school jazz choir my senior year, and every one of us would tear up in rehearsal. Come our final concert, we were crying while singing, and we even saw our director start crying about halfway through the song. The level of emotion that the song allows to be put into it in terms of musicality and lyrical delivery, especially with a group of talented singers, is breathtakingly beautiful, and the end result is even more so. One of my most memorable experiences making music.
I also sang this song my senior year and was similarly moved. In eight years of choir (junior high through college) I think that this song and a song called Homeward Bound (Marta Keen arr Jay Althouse) were the two that were most emotionally resonant for me.
I hear you man... there was a high school that I went to and a boys choir sung this song. My friends and I were deeply moved and had second thoughts before we beat and bullied a few of the boys from that choir without mercy. Oh well, And so it goes...
That's the King's Singers in a nutshell...my favorite musical group of any kind, anywhere, who I've had the privilege to see and hear in concert a number of times.
@@BoutYoungAnnaLee i sang this piece with the kings singers just short of 2 months ago, and what you hear in this recorded version is exactly replicated, some new members and all. their blend and amazing sound isn't luck, but hard work and patience. It is nothing less than beautiful.
@@BoutYoungAnnaLee There is zero autotune used here. This is just how good actual tuning can sound when produced classically trained singers. We leave autotune to the pop people.

I introduced my ex to the King's Singers. She fell in love with them. Despite having always listened to them long before I met her, I now can't help but think of her every time I listen to them. My first Christmas gift from her was tickets to see them. We saw them two times more. I miss her.
"So I would choose to be with you That's if the choice were mine to make But you can make decisions too And you can have this heart to break" thank you for sharing this glorious tender song....... thank you
One of the most amazing moments of my singing life was being selected as part of a small group choir to sing this song WITH The King's Singers at a concert they did in Portsmouth, NH in the 90s. I think we sang this and two other songs with them and it was incredibly magical. I'll never forget it.
We saw the Kings Singers last night, 2-24-94 in Opelika AL. They performed this song, and a couple of others, with the local community choir. Two men from that choir had solo parts during this number. They did a very commendable job, and I thought it was quite gracious of the KS to give these men the thrill of a lifetime. Congratulations on your chance. I'm sure it is something to be proud of!
In every heart there is a room A sanctuary safe and strong To heal the wounds from lovers past Until a new one comes along I spoke to you in cautious tones You answered me with no pretense And still I feel I said too much My silence is my self defense And every time I've held a rose It seems I only felt the thorns And so it goes, and so it goes And so will you soon I suppose But if my silence made you leave Then that would be my worst mistake So I will share this room with you And you can have this heart to break And this is why my eyes are closed It's just as well for all I've seen And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows So I would choose to be with you That's if the choice were mine to make But you can make decisions too And you can have this heart to break And so it goes, and so it goes And you're the only one who knows.
Perhaps the greatest song ever written about vulnerability, love and loss. And this is the most beautiful performance of it. The 4 part harmony gives me chills every time. ❤️ Thank you for sharing!!
I agree with you. It is an absolutely perfect performance of the truest song about the cost, the bravery, in loving someone, ever written. You have to have loved, risked, and lost, to fully hear and feel this song in your own heart.
I love this recording of Billy Joel's greatest song, in my opinion! I sent it to Andrew Scott (Irish Actor )in a letter to let him know this is what I feel, for his birthday last year knowing, it would be meaningful to him. In 2021 the pain of loss and love is still raw.
We've fought, we've gone to neutral corners, I've realized my mistakes, and I know the relationship is over, but... I'll let you take a final shot, if you feel you need it.
The song is amazing, Billy Joel is amazing, the performance is amazing, the chord at 3:23 is amazing. Just nothing but...amazing. Thank you, King's Singers!!!!
yup ! 3.23 is the one ,Mr Joel himself would love this but would the 157 tone deaf individuals that disliked this please turn their computers / smartphones off and go and live in a cave !!! . ( I think I have been quite measured in my response there :))
Yes, my feelings too. So good to have our contemporary KS singing this lovely song - but I confess to liking the "old" version too - honoured to have the choice, well done guys!
my middle school choir teacher had us sing this song every year he taught, and used this recording to introduce the song every year. my 8th grade year he retired.
When I hear music like this it gives me hope because my generation isn't the best for music. I love listening to this music and hearing people enjoy the same passion that I do.
I remember this song from High School concert choir. I have always loved this song. Of course, we were no where near the skill level of these gentlemen, but we sure tried to get there! I still can't believe I used to sing counter tenor.
When I was in highschool our biggest choir was 212 voices. We also had a chamber ensemble, Men's Choir, Ladies' Choir, and Junior Choir. On top of that we had a Senior Orchestra, Junior Orchestra, Jazz Band, and Chamber Orchestra. Of the 1,300 students, 750 were in the music program. We did some incredible pieces, including Beethoven's Hallelujah Chorus. It is magical making music come to life this way.
Bob Chilcott is an absolute master of his craft. Sun, Moon, Sea and Stars stands out as one of the most distinctive choral arrangements in recent memory.
I can't imagine a bettter blend of voices for Chilcott's version of this love song. And now, having just lost my partner, the arrangement, which brings out the dissonances and suspensions of Billy Joel's accompaniment, helps me grieve even more and more completely, so that I can get on with the next chapter of my life.
@@light-man2001 Quite right to me up on that Light Man. Am a big Billy Joel fan so know he composed this beautiful song. My poor English, I'm afraid. Chilcott is undoubtedly a highly acclaimed composer in his own right but I happen to think that his arrangement of this song is rather good too.

Billy's most beautiful song sung beautifully
But you can make decisions too and you can have this heart to break 💔😢
I love hearing countertenors. Almost as much as I love basses.
Melodiam this is literally the most accurate thing EVER
Me too, especially David Hurley, the former stunning KS countertenor.
It's amazing to see how humanity is starting to revert back to the quality harmony of the 14th & 15th centuries
I think we all wish we could sing both those parts.
Hits different when you've had a serious heart break
