Absolute BANGER 🔥. Keep up the good work. 😃 As a owner of a Audient product (Evo 4), I love the features.. but find myself less likely to recommend it due to the EMI issues I'm constantly met with.
You have EMI issues with your Evo? That’s interesting. When I tried one, I didn’t notice that. That’s good to know, man. And thanks so much for the kind words! Cheers!
@@TheRecordist yeah unfortunately as I love the Evo 4 😩. No problem as far as the kind words you’re a great creator and I always enjoy the Monday drops 🫂
TPS is at the leading edge of audio channels; this time, with the use of anthropomorphism. What would I rather have? A plastic crummy interface or a real, farting tape measure? In a one-two punch, in rapid succession, we were treated to “third generation oil driller” (a classic) and then the tape farted. On second thought, the interface might be adequate enough to use for recording farts. Again, I applaud you for upholding the humor of a five-year-old.
If I only had $55 with no prospect of getting another $55 then I'd buy a used first gen Focustrite iTrack Solo. It has a bit of lag but it's manageable and it's rock solid. Mine took a beating over the years and kept working. I needed more capability so I upgraded last year to the most current Focusrite 2i2 for the little bit of recording I do. Don't be sad though, the old iTrack Solo has been re-homed.
In my lifetime of experience with Chinese products, as a consumer and in my manufacturing profession, I've learned of the 3 levels of quality to be expected. Of course there are some exceptions. There is the arrangement where the US company that has their products made there have THEIR people in China at the facility to oversee production is done the way they expected, to specification, including material-wise, and to dimension and technical specs after the product was designed in the USA. These products are usually good. The second level is where a Chinese company is found to produce their product, and the originators receive the first sample, which is usually well done and approved. Then the regular production items have corners cut by the Chinese manufacturer in order to make production easier and cheaper to increase their own profit. These products are not as good as one would like, but they seem to get the job done...at least for a while...and since the product is cheap enough, when it fails, its not a terrible loss and is easily replaced. Sometimes the American company will cease production in China and have it made elsewhere, or in the USA, to save their company's name and reputation. Sometimes they just appreciate the profit they are making. The third level is where a Chinese company has initiated the product, or an unscrupulous US company initiates the product, or just looks to China to see what's available, and the mere fact that the product is made at all is the goal. It's as if someone is saying "You didn't have one before/this never existed before, and now you have one. You should be happy." That it actually works well seems to never be a consideration. If a step stool is built, and it is wobbly and you are not sure it can support your weight more than 6 times, then you should be happy because you have one now, it did not cost you much, and you can reach those higher items now....at least 6 times. Why complain? This item seems to fall into the 3rd category. For $55 you can have an interface....and you needed one....here it is....its cheap.....and it "works." What's the problem? Eh.....kinda.....
That’s well said! I have no idea how long this will last. Maybe it’ll last years. And if so, it’ll make those with big dreams and very little money happy. As always, I really appreciate your well thought-out comments!
@@the_black_douglas9041 - A ton of companies went the second method of manufacturing. Also, a good number of companies went that way, and then quietly brought manufacturing back to the USA to keep their company from going out of business, after spending decades building a trusted reputation. The problem is, too many companies don't seem to care enough. Zenith was the last American made television brand. The year they announced they made the most profit in their company's history they closed up shop in the US and moved production to Mexico. The most profit they ever made was not enough for them. The move had nothing to do with the cost of labor, just greed.
I reviewed this and it seemed to power the SM7B no problem, I did have to turn it up almost all the way but I thought it didn't okay Job. When I was reading the specs I'm pretty sure The specs I read said you got like 54 decibels again or something like that. But that's just what I'm remembering and my memory does kind of suck, I didn't really find the headphone amplifier to be quiet and it didn't sound too much different than some of my higher in the audio interfaces but. I mean if you've only got 50 bucks I think it's a good option. It may not be the world's best in her face but crap for your average content creator or something it's probably more than good enough. That's how I look at it. Hopefully people realize when they're buying budget gear they're getting budget gear, I doubt they're expecting to get pro audio quality out of a cheap interface but I guess I could be wrong.
Yes of course. Perhaps there’s wild differences between manufacturing tolerances? Mine could barely power the SM57, and even then I had to boost by 10dB in post to bring it to the appropriate levels. Also, the headphone amp was noticeably quiet. Maybe yours was different. Longevity aside, I think this is unit will work for those who can’t afford a better interface. Thanks for the comment!
👀 I see from the description that you're using the SM7B and I don't see the mic in the shot. I had the impression that you needed to have that kind of mic close to your mouth to get a nice sound. Is that something one could recreate only with a sound treated space?
Hey Clara! I must have made an error in the description. I am not using the SM7B in this video. The interface can’t adequately push it. For the talking head portions of this video, I’m using the Line Audio CM4 small diaphragm condenser mic, and into a Sound Devices MixPre 6 II. I didn’t use the interface for the talking head parts. For the tests, I was speaking directly into the Shure SM57. And the music tests were the SM57 as well. Sorry for the confusion!
@@ClarasMakeupDiary that’s a great idea, Clara! I’ll add that to my list. I will for sure do that. Just have to get through some products that were sent to me. Thanks!
Placed and order with the 'zon this morning and saw that M-Audio has 3 interfaces from 49 to 89 right now. The 49 one looks about like that FiFine unit. My DAW has a 2i2 3rd gen that works nicely for me. Only reason I'd consider another is the Dell mini I use for office work and surfing is awful for headphones - whether through the CPU or the monitor via HDMI. The CPU jack has more crackle than rice crispies - the monitor jack won't hardly drive my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 250s. So what do you do with something like that after trashing it in review? Leave it out for the langoliers?
Hahaha. The Langoliers! I totally got that reference! But I’m an old man now. DT990 pros at 250 ohms is going to be a challenge for most consumer products. Have you considered a headphone amp?
@@TheRecordist Doh! I got one - an ART I believe - a 1x4. I can also hook up the wife, cat and a spare. Cool. (Not old - just aged to near perfection).
@@ilblues hahaha. Awesome. I would use that with my interface to properly push a pair of 250 ohm cans. But I bet when they’re properly powered, those headphones sound divine!
@@TheRecordist The Beyers used with the 2i2 have a softer sound to my ears. Is it the open back that makes them softer sounding? I can't really recommend sound reinforcement gear any longer because of the multitone tinnitus from about 4k - 10k. The softer sound of the Beyers is the least (tinnitus) triggering of the phones I have (AT M40, Sennheiser 280 Pro, and the Beyers). Fatigue sets in faster with closed back and more piercing phones. Even at the low volumes I listen at.
Its a shame that it can't even improve on the cheap behringer and audio interface. The mono uitput is even a downgrade. Had hoped it could at least beat those. Now there seem to be no reason at all to go for this one. For this price, second hand looks the best option, but otherwise the m-audio and behringer seem to be still a better choice
