Hey Critic, can you review Monster House and Friday the 13th (2009) this year? Also, could you post your review on IT 2017 before Halloween or is it only available in theaters?
I can't believe we left Hannah in the spook house. I’m surprised we were able to leave Hannah all alone in the house of spooks. I am completely flabbergasted that we abandoned the little girl called Hannah in that particularly scary building. I am personally without words over the fact that the four of us allowed the young female minor called Hannah to defend herself in the constructed establishment that provides a variety of frightening imagery.
I am thoroughly discombobulated given the fact that we deposited an infantile cousin of one of us of developed eyes by the name of Hannah at her own mercy within at creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky, altogether ooky luxurious abode completely with phantasmagorical entities.
Werewolf: "You'll be lucky if I don't bury your femur in the backyard." Skeleton: "You can bury your bone in MY backyard." Werewolf: "what." Skeleton: "what."
"Clumsy" is definitely the perfect word to describe this special. But at least you can tell the people making it at least tried. I still love it though since it was something I watched every Halloween and I guess it just has a place in my heart.
Just came back from seeing it in front of an audience in Chicago. Jill told us afterwards that it started as a stage play at the Athenaeum - "We cut a song and about fifteen minutes because animation is expensive" - that they improvised to the laughter of the children. If you approach it as a kid's stage play, all the scenes start making sense. And I could hear the kids in the audience laughing genuinely at the right moments, so they succeeded!

The animation has to be like this, To fit with the original design of the Comic it was based after. All in all, They sacrificed luxury animation to keep the characters design similar from the comic onto the animated screen.
There’s a reason this video got brought up a lot in the comments on his “top 11 Halloween guilty pleasures”. It’s charming and fun but the animation and some of the bad jokes does make it a guilty pleasure in every sense of the word.
I loved this movie so much growing up. Granted, I'm not a millennial, I'm a gen Z, this still shaped my humor for a large portion of my childhood. I really wanna watch this and the sequel now
Tbh, millennials were born from 1981-1996 with their Culture being from 1998-2015 while Gen Z/Edge was born from 1997-2012 with their Culture being from 2016-2032. What year were u born exactly?
Oh my god I remember watching this on Cartoon Network and absolutely loving it and it being my absolute favorite Halloween movie strictly because I was 7 and I really liked this kind of animation.
Actually critic, the author actually said she wanted it in CGI because 'Only I can do 2D'. She considered 2D her style and wanted the movie not to do that, so originally it was going to be like an EP of the old Scooby Doo with the 2D style.
the reason for that is because mainframe entertainment(now rainmaker studios) was the company who made the scary godmother movies, they also made cgi animated television shows such as reboot, shadow raiders and you guessed it ,transformers beast wars
There is an interesting fact about this special. Of course the animation age is obviously there and you can see it done in a reanimation project, but the creator of the books and specials likes them like that. Plus what made it more interesting is that she based her image and her niece on Scary God Mother and Hannah
Scary Godmother: "... He's our official skeleton in the closet." N.C.: "You know what you're doing! You know exactly what you're doing!" So hilarious! (Starts at 6:17)
The second one was definitely my favorite. Even if it's not a LOT better, the animation improves, and it feels a lot less awkward. At least, that's how I remember it.
I remember when it was Halloween, Cartoon Network used to play Scary Godmother Halloween Spooktacular, all the time along with the revenge of jimmy. i miss those days when Cartoon Network would play those two movies along with the other Halloween specials. Every year when october comes by, i think about those two movies. it was fun watching them on cartoon network when i was a little kid.
Oh thank god this *was* real. I genuinely thought I hallucinated the whole thing in some kind of awful NyQuil-induced fever dream when I was sick one October.
I thought the same thing of the Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue special. (Note: I actually met Jill Thompson at NYCC last year and she's really nice. ^_^ And I still love this movie.)
"definitely won't hold adults' or older kids' attention" FALSE YOU BEPUMPKINED FOOL THE OLDER GEN Z ABSOLUTELY STANS SCARY GODMOTHER AND YOU HAVE TO DO THE SEQUEL THIS NOSTALGIAWEEN
True dat, pretty much any one from 95-03 spent they're grade school years seeing this every October season, those after enjoyed it to as well but I personally haven't seen it on TV for about 4 years now
Is no one else going to bring up how Jimmy's voice went through puberty backwards in the second movie? Like did his experience in the first one cause him to lose his balls or something?
Durr Plant The monster guy with a ton of eyes scared him to the point he became absurdly paranoid. And his face gets stuck a weird pose so he's all kind messed up in the head.
And Mr. Pettibone and Max is voiced by Scott McNeil, who voiced one of the Diamond Dogs (and Ken in the Street Fighter cartoon, Protoman in the Mega Man cartoon, and Lord Raptor in the Darkstalkers cartoon. Just throwing those facts in)
I will always have a soft spot for this movie. Last Halloween a lot of artists made art about Scary Godmother pulling a Steve from blue’s clues and saying how big we’ve gotten. I cried like a baby.
FUZE Yup. And it’s even better than the original, if I remember right. If I missed this much adult humor in the original, I wonder what went over my head in the sequel
ToastyDoasty “I work in the closets of all the old houses, keeping their secrets--“ “YOU KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING! YOU KNOW *EXACTLY* WHAT YOU’RE DOING!”
Tbh I forgot this movie existed but not in a bad way I actually love the movie, sure there were cringe moments but it's ok and the little girl is super cute!
Right? This and Monster House became sort of a ritual for me on the first day of October, because CN would always show them around Halloween. Now, it's just reruns of that fucking Gumball show and Teen Titans No ALL DAY LONG.
I remember I loved this movie growing up. every year around Halloween time I would always wait for this and its sequel to air. I also never minded the animation because to me it just seemed very unique. and that joke where they keep saying recount was hilarious to me.
yeah there is a sequel. the werewolf has to pay back scary god mother for pizza she bought in the first film but instead of doing that he hosts the movie where Halloween is in jeopardy because Jimmy is trying to ruin it due to his fear of the monsters.
@@themysteriouscatperson9483 Sweetie it was made in 2003 and cartoon network didn't think it would be a hit. That's why they didn't put effort into the design. They did it half assed
Ah.... nostalgic memories of watching this as a kid. I'll admit, I'm 23 yrs old and still like this tv special and its sequel. Can't wait to see what else Nostalgiaween 2017 has in store!
I agree on every point made on the animation and art style, but this movie and the characters will always be remembered fondly Btw, I hated the wolfman character so much as a kid. Not 'cause he was scary, which he isn't really, because he just ate a bunch and didn't make any contribution to the story or jokes
Same dude. The kids just being silly but misguided kids honestly still gets me. Looking back now, though, only monster characters I really like are Scary Godmother and the skeleton in the closet, and that one's mostly due to me finally catching up with the joke after all these years. I like the backgrounds and environments, but considering how terrible the characters look paired with how much time they spend taking up the whole camera, it's a pretty hard watch for me.
I figured it out after a while. Basically the kids are being dorks and pretending to be her parents and how it was that her parents gave her the flashlight. I think the ‘joke’ is that the kids keep praising themselves
Because that's how the author drew them in the book. Fun fact, she _didn't_ want them to do that but they insisted on it because they wanted to stay true to the source material. What's really sad though is that this was made by the same people who made Reboot and Beast Wars and by god, it's crap. This was made when the company was hitting hard times and got annexed into another company. I think they make Barbie sequels now. :( Poor things.
NoirRaven to be fair the recent Barbie movies have actually been funny. I watched them for the memes but they were pretty entertaining considering what those movies were like when I was a kid.
why is this being made by the people who did reboot a sad thing? Reboot is actually a pretty fuckin good show for it's time. Yea it looks like total garbage, but for a weekly show back in like...what 1993? 1996? it is understandable for it being the way it looks.
For all its cringy lines, it actually seems kinda charming. While I initially just shuddered at the incredibly dated look, it also reminded me of the early 3D models in games, and nostalgia is rose-coloured. The story is basic and rather dumbed down, but still cute.

@Anders Borgman Any updates? Lol
There is an interesting fact about this special. Of course the animation age is obviously there and you can see it done in a reanimation project, but the creator of the books and specials likes them like that.
Plus what made it more interesting is that she based her image and her niece on Scary God Mother and Hannah
If Kangaroo Jack made me cringe, Scary Godmother made me laugh at its absurdity!
Weird, for me it's the opposite.
Will 2139 I can't believe we left Hannah in the spook house.
Kangaroo Jack is a furry porn comic
The Animated Sequel was better
Scary Godmother: "... He's our official skeleton in the closet."
N.C.: "You know what you're doing! You know exactly what you're doing!"
So hilarious! (Starts at 6:17)
I love this movie and I have to admit it's hilarious to hear him make slightly terrified jokes of its admittedly bad CG.
6:22 literally the best reaction ever
6:23
The second one was definitely my favorite. Even if it's not a LOT better, the animation improves, and it feels a lot less awkward. At least, that's how I remember it.
Dana Baldus i just notice the skeleton seems a little homosexual
sanguis M he is the skeleton inside the closet after all, wait a little and he will be the skeleton outside the closet.
That was Cartoon Network before the Teen Titans Go plague
punk thrash135 I can't believe we left Hannah in the spook house.
Now we have the Not So Powerful Puff Girls and teen titans go.
I will still watch this every Halloween
Nicky Grajek same dude every year since the movie has been out even the sequel
Nicky Grajek same
Nicky Grajek
What's so great about this piece of shit? Perhaps you need help?
Peter von Feldt He needs help... and yet you're the one concerned that someone likes a Halloween flick not many others enjoy?
Same but jeez is the animation a loooooottt worse than i remember
Oh my God I can't stop laughing the part he thinks the vampire snap his neck and he put Slenderman involve
I Die ahhaahaggag
It's To funny
Same here 🤣
Oh thank god this *was* real. I genuinely thought I hallucinated the whole thing in some kind of awful NyQuil-induced fever dream when I was sick one October.
Don't feel bad. I thought the same of the Pink Elephants On Parade sequence in Dumbo. Took years before I learned it was a thing.
it happened the same to me, but with Invader Zim. On that episode where Zim steals the organs from some kids on school, lol
I thought the same thing of the Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue special.
(Note: I actually met Jill Thompson at NYCC last year and she's really nice. ^_^ And I still love this movie.)
I felt the same way!
I thought the same thing
"definitely won't hold adults' or older kids' attention"
FALSE YOU BEPUMPKINED FOOL THE OLDER GEN Z ABSOLUTELY STANS SCARY GODMOTHER AND YOU HAVE TO DO THE SEQUEL THIS NOSTALGIAWEEN
Winter F
Agreed
fACTS I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH
True dat, pretty much any one from 95-03 spent they're grade school years seeing this every October season, those after enjoyed it to as well but I personally haven't seen it on TV for about 4 years now
guess 66
Same here
Agreed I watch it every year and I'm 16
Is no one else going to bring up how Jimmy's voice went through puberty backwards in the second movie? Like did his experience in the first one cause him to lose his balls or something?
He was so scared his balls retreated back inside him.
That's gonna have to be a joke when Doug reviews the sequel...
mashitandsmashit there's a sequel?
Yup, "The Revenge of Jimmy".
Did you just steal that joke from Quinton Reviews?
11:00 I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU LEFT HANNAH IN THE SPOOKHOUSE
Jimmy got ptsd in the second one
Brandon Worthing .... what
Durr Plant it's true.
Yeah, he did.
He got PTSD so bad that it caused reverse puberty
Durr Plant The monster guy with a ton of eyes scared him to the point he became absurdly paranoid. And his face gets stuck a weird pose so he's all kind messed up in the head.
Fun fact that I just found out: the Scary Godmother is voiced by Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity from My Little Pony).
Jeremy Smith but this was way before she was Rarity dude
Love it even more now
And Mr. Pettibone and Max is voiced by Scott McNeil, who voiced one of the Diamond Dogs (and Ken in the Street Fighter cartoon, Protoman in the Mega Man cartoon, and Lord Raptor in the Darkstalkers cartoon. Just throwing those facts in)
Donkarasu-96 What else can you say about Scott McNeil, other than that he's a pro and knows his job. _Takes a sip of soda_
Jeremy Smith oh!😆I can hear her now😆
I was completely into it when the gay skeleton showed up.
real human bean
Same here
I will always have a soft spot for this movie. Last Halloween a lot of artists made art about Scary Godmother pulling a Steve from blue’s clues and saying how big we’ve gotten. I cried like a baby.
Who wants Critic to review the sequel?
Israel Flores me
There
Was
A
Sequel!?
Israel Flores
I do!
FUZE
Yup. And it’s even better than the original, if I remember right. If I missed this much adult humor in the original, I wonder what went over my head in the sequel
" *R E C O U N T ! ! !* "
Also, I adore this movie.
Zodiac Galileo Klondike I also adore this movie, also you remember *_Monster House_*
That's one vote for everyone

that bit has me laughing my ass off
Aaand the Critic died. Get the shovel.
I still don't quiet understand it.
Hehe yeah
Tbh I forgot this movie existed but not in a bad way I actually love the movie, sure there were cringe moments but it's ok and the little girl is super cute!
Cute profile pic. What is it?

LMFAO
@@UwU-lm9or 😠Tell me about it
Right? This and Monster House became sort of a ritual for me on the first day of October, because CN would always show them around Halloween. Now, it's just reruns of that fucking Gumball show and Teen Titans No ALL DAY LONG.
same
If we don’t get the revenge of jimmy this year, we riot
I can't believe we left Hannah in the spook house...
The entire movie was worth it just for the skeleton in the closet joke.
WahabiHoboFilms I know! That was the funniest part of the whole thing, if not the only funny part!
Skeleton in the closet. The skeleton came out of the closet. I now understand the accent. Someone give me a noose, I just wanna hang.
WorldWalker128 I can't believe we hung Hannah in the spook house.
Then go back into the closet! Most who practice auto erotic asphyxiation usually have a wooden beam in a closet available.
I can't believe it took me this long to get that joke
3-5 times a week
Every week
All October
Every year
2004-2012
I used to watch this and now I just got the skeleton is gay joke
Aiden and goldy Same. Now I love it so much more lol
Aiden and goldy my jaw dropped when I realised... Then he said it and it was confirmed
I can't believe we left Hana in the spook house
I can't believe you committed suicide. I can *not* believe you committed suicide.

I remember I loved this movie growing up. every year around Halloween time I would always wait for this and its sequel to air. I also never minded the animation because to me it just seemed very unique. and that joke where they keep saying recount was hilarious to me.
Blazing Victory *S E Q U E L Y O U S A Y*
R e c o u n t
perhaps we should not have abandoned that small child'like person within the interior of thine house of spooks
The point where they start doing it intentionally is what I find funny about it. XD
yeah there is a sequel. the werewolf has to pay back scary god mother for pizza she bought in the first film but instead of doing that he hosts the movie where Halloween is in jeopardy because Jimmy is trying to ruin it due to his fear of the monsters.
Why is the CGI so jerky and shiny-
Kere! AtTheDisco because 2003
Toy story and toy story 2 were already made by this time, and its graphics were 100 times better than this
@@themysteriouscatperson9483 to be fair it is a TV special
Segway Man
Jimmy neutron looks better than this
@@themysteriouscatperson9483 Sweetie it was made in 2003 and cartoon network didn't think it would be a hit. That's why they didn't put effort into the design. They did it half assed
I actually really like this movie. It is actually very nostalgic for me and I see it on tv every year.
I love this movie so much
Ah.... nostalgic memories of watching this as a kid. I'll admit, I'm 23 yrs old and still like this tv special and its sequel. Can't wait to see what else Nostalgiaween 2017 has in store!
That skeleton was the best part.
No BONES about it!
Dartanyan Elson
Good one!
Dartanyan Elson get that pun outta here

NC: I'm opening fire if this is a Howard the Duck spinoff!!
Me: 😂😂😂
I actually used to like scary godmother. As a kid (I believe up to age 13) I watched it every year on Halloween before trick or treating.
I hate to admit this, but turning to the side and talking to the camera is such a common trope that i've begun to do that in real life myself.
lol me too unfortunately
Before: I SWEAR I saw this movie, just by the thumbnail I recognize it...
At the end: HOW DO I NOT REMEMBER ALL OF THIS...
it was probably the sequel, Yes there is a sequel...
Derpastar087 I know right?
I can't believe we left hannah in the spook house
its kinda creepy when that jimmy's head grows whenever he gets mad
I agree on every point made on the animation and art style, but this movie and the characters will always be remembered fondly
Btw, I hated the wolfman character so much as a kid.
Yo as a kid I had NO FUCKING CLUE what the flash back scene even was. It took me YEARS to figure out that joke
Let lil live I can't believe we left Hannah in the spook house.
wait... what /is/ the joke though?
Let lil live Lol Me Too
Let lil live
That was a joke?
I figured it out after a while. Basically the kids are being dorks and pretending to be her parents and how it was that her parents gave her the flashlight. I think the ‘joke’ is that the kids keep praising themselves
The Skeleton in this movie then auditioned for Papyrus, and got the part.
1:40: my favorite nostalgic critic moment.
6:23: I think critic is malfunctioning
Why do the monsters look more human than the button eyed doll people outside?
The plot twist is that this takes place in the other world from Coraline.
Because they used to make great things, now they make Barbie sequels. It's a rather sad fate for the pioneers of CGI animation.
Can we just get a gif of Critic falling out of his chair
For all its cringy lines, it actually seems kinda charming. While I initially just shuddered at the incredibly dated look, it also reminded me of the early 3D models in games, and nostalgia is rose-coloured. The story is basic and rather dumbed down, but still cute.
It looks like it's straight from a Windows 95/98 computer game.
