    Check out my Free Training:

    Written Version & Notes:
    doingenglish.c...
    League EES: doingenglish.co...
What is shadowing? I define it as 'training for English fluency'. shadowing is a good way to improve your pronunciation, accent and speaking as well as rhythm. It gets your mouth moving, and your ears paying attention to English.
Regardless of whether it's the best way to improve English speaking or not, to get good at speaking English you're going to have to do some hard work.
    And shadowing is no different.
People often come to me asking how can I improve spoken English? Do I need people around me to practise?
    The answer is no.
This lesson is going to show you how to learn to speak English NOW, even if you don't have anybody to speak with.
Understand that speaking has to be learnt physically.
It is important to get a lot of English speaking practice. Actually, speak English. Actually, move your mouth. If you don't move your mouth when you learn, pronunciation will be hard. Which means speaking will be hard.
    There is a problem ...
If you don't live in an English speaking country, you'd probably say ...
"But this isn't an English speaking country -- how can I get a lot of English speaking practice?'
I don't mean "English conversation practice".
I mean the same type of practice that gets you good at riding a bike. Raw, repetitive practice.
English speaking practice. Training your mouth to speak English easily, and fluently.
English speaking practice is much easier than you probably think.
You don't need other people to practice your English speaking skills.
    Just use your listening materials!
The important part is the CD, but the book also has an important use.
A summary of the shadowing technique I describe in the video:
    - Listen to the book as many times as you can.
    - Read the book and check any words you don't know in your dictionary.
    - Listen to the book again.
    - Listen and read (out loud!) the book together. Practice section by section until you get really good at it.
    - Shadow the CD without the book.
It's a really good idea to record yourself doing this too, so you can tell where you're making pronunciation mistakes.

I wasn't born in an english country but I know how to speak english. I was confident enough so I applied to a customer service job in which we only handle emails. Worked for 1 year and 4 months and I was good at it. I thought my english was perfect so I never practice it, nor speak it. Even as I write this statement, you notice that I barely get mistakes.
Now I transferred to a company, still customer service but this time we handle calls from actual Kiwis. Was interviewed by the trainor and it was the WORST day of my life. My voice was shaking, I couldn't express my actual thoughts and my statement was redundant and made less sense by the moment. Thankfully, I was still hired but they told me to practice my english speaking very well.
Thank you for this video. Will surely save me from being unemployed.

I realise that my English speaking was not that good so I just learn it from the course book pdf and I can't even understand English that much in other subjects. I don't know how to express my feeling in English when I was having a conversation with my friends, teachers and other people. Later on when I saw this shadowing technique It is a lot useful for me and I feel like I am in right way learning English speaking skills and listening. whoever learned a foreign language knows that nothing can replace real conversation - conversation with another person. I can try to speak to myself, make up stories, but it is not the same - there is no interaction and you do not force yourself to speak what you need to say and you just stick to simple sentences, staying in your comfort zone. Repeating sentence is pointless to practise fluency and might be good for practising pronunciation. Listening is pointless for improving speaking as well (its like listening to music when you learn to play an instrument). The best way to find someone to talk to in order to practise speaking is to pay a native person (or find a friend if you are a person of such a great ability).

      Quang Nguyen Trung Hello.
I pass the link to two very good sites. The first website Storynory is more for beginners.
The second site is slightly more advanced. The second website manythings.org, which is part of the Voice of America. This site has an option called Listen and Read Along, which contains the MP3 and texts.
Link to the first site to learn English with audio and text is www.storynory.com/
Link the second site to learn English with audio and text is www.manythings.org/
      I hope will be helpful.
      Best regards.

+Ali Muhammed Songs aren't the best way to improve your English just for the fact that they twist the words in order to rhyme them. I would really recommend online practicing such as TeamSpeak program/client, it will help you a lot.

It's rather easy for a native (whatever language) speaker to give advice on how to master their (whatever language). You guys never had to work hard to learn it well. How would you know how to reprogram my brain from my own native tongue to comply with the set of rules in your language? You can only judge by the outcome, but the hard work has to be done by the student. A learner of (whatever language) is disadvantaged by many factors, one of them being that he or she started late, lacks the language surroundings and sooner or later finds out the sad truth that he or she will never quite get there. English used to have colonial connotations - which is how it became #1 international language, after all - but now, even though not completely devoid of this trait, it has become quite a powerful tool. The one who speaks it better will have the upper hand in a negotiation. And that's a great motivation - learn English well and you can earn more money! Therefore, shadowing is very useful in a situation when there are no partners for practice. Thanks, Julian, for this video and thanks UA-cam for providing it to all ESL learners.

EddiTV ,yes me too I'm Arabic (a native speaker ) but I don't understand many words and sentences in Arabic specially the Holly Quran is very hard to understand it because the Arabic language is very very rich in grammar and vocabulary, for example the word " lion"has more than 300 synonyms .and about Portuguese language, I have a Brazilian friend she told that it has a difficult grammar. I love learning languages , I speak 3 languages Arabic , French and English and a few of the Turkish language.
