I completely understand "North American Grass" or the like. Every region has distinct foliage (plant ecology of an area is based on geology), and it is subtly noticeable if one pays attention. I think this is part of the reason we might just "feel at home" in the part of the world where we grew up, the buildings, infrastructure, and foliage, all have a distinct aesthetic.
Totally. The devil is in the details even if we don't consciously process it. I've had this very strange feeling though. I'm from central Europe from Czechia and whenever I've travelled I've always started feeling homesick after a pretty short amount of time (week or two) just because I was missing the specific aesthetic of the land, the foliage etc. I had this even in Spain or France, even Germany. The only place, where I felt pretty at home was inland Lithuania and very strangely Britain (specifically southern England around Glastonbury). It seems so strange to me, because Britain is an island, it's quite a more southern place and especially the architecture is very very different.
@@Washeek That's interesting. I also start to feel a bit homesick when I travel out of the birch and spruce forrests of the Great Lakes region. I have not yet been to Britain, but for some reason I feel like I'd also feel at home there. I used to watch a lot of BBC shows when I was a young kid and the architecture, the meadows, and the hedgrows are nostalgic somehow.
It's funny how grass is a strong clue for some.. Whereas for me I have always paid most attention to the soil (moist, dark, light, reddish, yellow, grey, a lot of rocks, cracked dirt etc). Looking at specifically soil and trees generally has been very useful for me to identify where a picture was taken.
8:43 "more impressive than it really is" dude I was given a whole day with these pictures being shown on a cinema screen I still wouldn't be able to even guess the right continent.
I actually surprisingly get the grass thing, the depth of green to yellow is very different depending on where or what type of grass, not to mention how it's maintained varies from country to country. I could definitely recognize the North American grass because it has that distinct color I've seen so many times. It's super weird and hella specific, but there's just a feeling there that our brains can easily pick up without us thinking about it.

I actually cant believe this. I stopped mid way though a geogessr session to watch this video... and when I go back, the very next map is the exact same darwin plonk as Rainbolt had... Crazy chance. At least I know where to go
5:40 If anyone is doubting this, you can literally tell Darwin apart from anywhere in Australia if you see the side of the road due to the dirt/grass combo.
your videos (both here and on tiktok) reignited my love of geography, and i ended spending a few days learning every country in the world just because i wanted to and i've never been more proud
10:24 As a Brazilian, it surely is Brazil, double yellow lines to separate opposite traffic with a single white line marking the shouders of the lanes, pretty standard ANTT horizontal signalling right there
Very impressive. I imagine there are some really high paying jobs for your skill set. Getting that close by just looking at grass is really impressive. How much of your guesses feels intuitive? You're so quick it seems intuitive or you have spent an insane amount of time and have literally "seen it all" a couple times.
The only way this makes sense (and it massively crushes his skill set, but he's still most likely fairly high IQ), is that there are only a set number of matches that you get in these games. For example, let's say 'South-west America' has 1,000 images of 'grass', and they are all 90% the same. This could be true, but would not even require you to remember 1,000 grass images. All you'd have to do is figure that 20 of these are always the same and always South-west, and then remember that general 'grass-ness'. This tells you all you need to know. Now, the hard part is doing the same thing for every country on Earth (about 195). So, that's at least 20 x 195 for 3,900 grass images to log in your mind, with most likely 1,000 other random ones that are harder to get/less common to pop up. That's still impressive and difficult, but I don't think it's anywhere near the 'true' scale of such things. You'd have to remember 1 million images otherwise, and that's just inhuman. If the game is very fixed, and you can just log 'American grass' after 2-5 matches (because it only shows certain grass each time), then you only have to remember about 1,000 images of 'grass' in total. (Of course, you need to do the same for buildings and otherwise -- but buildings are a bit easier to figure out.) Ironically, he made a mistake with the Greece image. He should have started with the popular locations. If he did this, instead of looking randomly, then he would have solved this in about 5 minutes instead of 3 hours.
This is some of the craziest stuff I’ve ever seen it’s not just his knowledge that’s impressive but how quickly he can look at a place and know exactly where it is. I just stumbled upon this on UA-cam I’ve never seen anything like it.

The way his eyes lightup when he reacted to the second one OMG ❤️ bro you are a blessing
Your content is evolving, nothing wrong with that.
Love this new direction, keep following your heart, it got you here so far.
you can see in his smile that hes pleased with what hes done
I swear RAINBOLT could track me down if he knew what color my grass is in my lawn.
"you have no life man go touch grass nerd"
RAINBOLT: "What type?"
it's pretty satifying to watch someone with that amount of knowledge explain their moves
I love the happiness (and pride?) in your smile when re-watching these.
I actually cant believe this. I stopped mid way though a geogessr session to watch this video... and when I go back, the very next map is the exact same darwin plonk as Rainbolt had... Crazy chance. At least I know where to go
In the span of 5 minutes he was scouring the traffic route of the 1993 Mardi Gras parade-that's insane strategy that also makes perfect sense.
you can see him lagging at 9:42, bro isn't human
I love how he is struggeling with his emotions while watching this. So glad that his passion is so usefull and fullfilling for him
5:40 If anyone is doubting this, you can literally tell Darwin apart from anywhere in Australia if you see the side of the road due to the dirt/grass combo.
"Bro sneezed and still got it" like he isn't literally talking about himself xD
Only realizing now that secret services will probably start scouting you soon
your videos (both here and on tiktok) reignited my love of geography, and i ended spending a few days learning every country in the world just because i wanted to and i've never been more proud
I love how happy he looks when watching his stuff
GPS: "Recalculating"
Rainbolt: "Left"
Let’s be glad this man is on our side, imagine if he didn’t use his abilities for good 😂😂
I'm curious whether the FBI has ever reached out to Rainbolt for assistance or insights regarding a photograph being utilized in an investigation :D
8:13 "You just remember these" my dude i can't remember the cross street of the theater I go to to see movies once a month wtf
you just got to love this guy. so genuinely nice
At like 7:32 there is such a weird sound that made me question if I was home alone, peobably not since he can find me using the picture of my floor.
10:24
As a Brazilian, it surely is Brazil, double yellow lines to separate opposite traffic with a single white line marking the shouders of the lanes, pretty standard ANTT horizontal signalling right there
Very impressive.
(Of course, you need to do the same for buildings and otherwise -- but buildings are a bit easier to figure out.)
Ironically, he made a mistake with the Greece image. He should have started with the popular locations. If he did this, instead of looking randomly, then he would have solved this in about 5 minutes instead of 3 hours.
@@TheClassicWorld the images from geo are satelite map images randomly clipped i believe
Love the girl asking a random relationships and then you say "no" and immediately go into geoguessr nerd mode
This is some of the craziest stuff I’ve ever seen it’s not just his knowledge that’s impressive but how quickly he can look at a place and know exactly where it is. I just stumbled upon this on UA-cam I’ve never seen anything like it.
Love how he is smiling when the video's start. You know he did something great here. Love it mate
this is gonna sound so weird but i live in new zealand and i saw the grass at 6:45 and thought that looks like new zealand 💀💀
“Go touch grass”
“Which country”
What a beautiful smile, you can see how passionate this guy is!
Ngl when I saw his shorts I always tought they were fake or just a joke but now seeing his longer videos I realize how insane this guys is
"Scanning..." This man is literally a human machine when it comes to pin point location finder.
Bro is the final boss when someone says to “go outside and touch grass”
"Which grass"
hey rainbolt, finally im early Lol
Edit: Im surprised you didnt include that clip of you getting the right road in kansas randomly
most of my geoguessr moments are moments of abject despair
"I scouted every island in Greece"
Now Scouted every Island in Sweden
Sooo sick! But why the dramatic music lol
You can really see the emo joy you're getting after the 2nd clip, I highly respect that my man. Joy from doing good is the best trait.
Also noticed the song in the back lol, we did very different things with it. Good choice though!
Kinda funny cause I had such issues maintaining my lawn after moving from Belgium to NZ. Now I know it's NZ grass being patchy that can't be helped lol
Every time he clicks, sounds like a gunshot echo, like he just killed the location.
