Introducing a phasing technique to remove vocals from music
In this video I show you how to remove vocals or even drums from a music or mp3 that you have. This technique is normally used to create karaoke tracks, but with some trial and error you can get a good result on what you're after
I must stress while phasing vocals out of music is a technique to remove vocals, it sometimes don't work out that well depending on the music. If you really need a karaoke track, buy it! It's only a dollar or so: goo.gl/1DYfA0

Ironic that the video is about removing drum tracks, yet there is a drummer in the next studio.
:P
Life saver!
I ordered a music commission, and the drums were just too loud in the mix. using this it was perfect! Thanks a ton!
This is very trial and error(or fun homework lol), I've gotta figure out how to keep the vocals at normal volume and drums at a low volume but like I said very trial and error. Thank you for this tutorial, I've been looking for a simple yet great explanation on how to do this.
hi, great video and I've got a MPC 500 drum machine/sampler and I'm looking to sample certain things from tracks for example just a single snare hit from a track. Is there a way I can do this by using a similar technique to extract the drums and use them? It would be similar to extracting the vocals and using them, any chance?
Thanks
Hi Reuben,
How is it possible the reverse, If I want only Drums or only Voice from the same music?
I wonder how you'd go about taking out mostly vocals and bringing out only the drums? I suppose the same method with different eq? I'm trying out a plugin called mashtactics and it seems to do okay on just a stereo track... haven't tried that in combination with this method.
help me please.. i follow what you taught from the video.. but my result is the drum and vocal are gone thanks it work.. but the lead guitar sound is almost gone and but the rhythm guitar is more clearer than the original sound..
Hey I have an instrumental track and I only want to hear the guitar, how can i remove everything but the guitar, the song is fire field from super smash bros brawl
Good! How can I do the reverse, remove all except the drum beats? Thanks.
Pierce the veil started playing and I just *cries*
Is this similar to the technique to get rid of white noise just with different frequencies?
Can you do this with guitar too?
What is the name of this song?
What are those noises behind you??
Hi and thanks for your video it is VERY useful. I am having a slight teething problem in that when I am recording and playing back, though the recording is crystal clear but on record and play back it is jumping in places. I have tried to set the audio buffer settings higher but still to no avail. I am sure it is something simple but wonder if you can help please? There is no distortion or over lapping of volume. I am currently using windows 7 home premium and 2 gig of ram and not running any other programs when recording. I use a roland duo capture EX audio midi interface. Thank you from Rickie.
Hi sir,
That was helpful. But could you please mention how to remove drum part exactly.
waiting soon.
you said in this video you gonna remove drums. lol you did all that and still heard the drums
You've good ears! Lol. I might have said that in the title, but really it's reducing. You can't remove drums from mixed music.
mine worked, thank you.
@@reubenchng It's because drums are the most important part of a song. I'm just being silly. Nice vid.
i did it and all i could hear was drums lol
@@reubenchng I beg to differ
But how could I isolate my drums, remove the instrumental and leave the drums on
I wish I could leave more than one like: one because you chose “ King for a day” by pierce the veil for the video, and the second like for the video itself!
How to save?
Managed to use this for a few songs but does anyone have experience enough to remove drums from so-called 'neoclassical shred metal' without altering the guitars too much? Something like Obscura-Concerto maybe.
What if I want to actually keep only the drums? (and i'm too cheap to purchase the drumextract plugin)
Piracy
What kind of software is this dude?
how to you put the voice back
I can’t get the vocals isolated I tried for a long time now
thanks bro. good work
I like how it removes the vocals, it's just that I did the same thing you did, and it didn't remove the drums, sadly. :(
Shit, when i seen someone say PTV below and then when i seen the audio waves i known it was going to be king for a day
Nice Video clip! Excuse me for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about - Rozardner Stopping Sounds Reality (do a google search)? It is a smashing one off guide for how to instantly slow down music by software without the normal expense. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cooworker got astronomical success with it.
I heard there was a way of leaving only the vocals IF you have the original AND the instrumental version of a song. Can you explain how to do this?
+AlexJasso100 Yes. I actually explained it in the video. All you do is invert the instrument version and phase it against the original track. That leaves you with only the vocals.
Hi! Thanks for your Audio advice and knowledge! Once you were finished and happy with your Audio Editing, did you return the two tracks back into *stereo* *mode* or did you leave them as two twin *Mono* tracks?
I return them to stereo.
Thanks for posting.
Like, how do i get the vocals back???!
***** Best thing is to add an a capella track (if it exists; you can find those online) or to add the same track again but eq the drums out only but this will only work with more expensive (or pirated ;)) software
Amazing, Thank you very much.
worked great, awesome
thank you thank you thank you sooo much
Thank you sir!
holy shit i love this song
Thanks for the trick 👍
Gibt es so etwas auch bei fruityloops?ich meine das sollte eigentlich schon auch so ne Funktion habe hab bisher aber noch nichts gefunden..

@@reubenchng I also like trees, but they always leaf me! LOL.
does this affect the bass?
NOOOOOOOOOO
I followed these exact steps and got the opposite result, ended up with just a drum track. Any ideas what happened?
same did u get any solution?
@@yugaljoshi4720 none at all. My solution was to give up
@@MisterGrizz lol same , it can cancel low pitched drum only...
hey mate, very new to this. I followed your instruction, and ended up removing everything else other then drums lol, which is what i wanted to remove in the first place. HHEEEELLLLPPPP
the song i tried out on was pushit by tool. exactly what you did and it phased out everything but the drums, what could i do to keep the song but lower the drums??
How to listen just bass guitar ? Thanks
Try the new software I posted. See description.
It depends on the song you're attempting on. You'll have to phase the same audio signal off. :(
limo bizkit?
not letting me equalize

I only want to remove the drums.... How do i do that?? Plzzz reply
You can't do that. You can only phase them out
Reuben Chng how do you phase them out more precisely?
Martin Szekely yes
Slowly drag the audio waveform and find a point when it starts phasing
Reuben Chng im so sorry im not much into music editing n stuff, i dint get your point. Can u explain in a simpler way. :p
the equalization button is called Filter Curve now

The drums are not gone at all
holy shit I freaked the fuck out when I heard ptv I was not expecting that omfg.
There are more than 200 videos of people teaching how to remove vocals from a song. They all say the same thing. They all go through the same motion. Yet, the vocals remain and the music itself is changed into something incomprehensible. This is what you'll learn after you view most of these audacity tutorials.
Because there is probably no way to remove vocals it 100%. Why, if you can, the music industry would be in jeopardy and mixing wouldn't be art anymore.
YEAAA PIERCE THE VEILL KELLIN QUINNNNN

pierce the veil ❤️
WORLD'S BIGGEST THANKS!
It didn't help me all it did was muffle my song
+Apoc Fakies It's a phasing technique. Doesn't work for all types of song mixes.
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS PTV
Pretty useful advice to make ringtones because smartphones have the lousiest speakers or sound output.

It doesn't work very well. But yes, it's free as you mention. And it's well explained in your video.

King for a day pearce the vail
Guys, for the record, this is removing vocals by phasing! It's not a magic formula for removing elements you don't want off a music piece. You can't do that. If you can, the music industry will be jeopardized.
Great tips!
Reuben Chng which program are you using audacity or logic pro please and thank I need a windows version
audacity is cool. use it on windows
+Reuben Chng (The Audio Mentor) this will definitely help with trying to isolate vocals
+Reuben Chng (The Audio Mentor) Actually, there is, lookup DrumelessTracks channel. Too bad.
