  • Dubai, fuelled by the wealth that comes with being a major oil hub, has grown by close to 600% in population in the last 30 years. The modern-day metropolis version of Dubai is a water-side city on the edge of the desert, full of iconic architecture and massive construction undertakings.

Dubai is a soulless city. It's the Las Vegas of the Middle East, it's enjoyable to visit once and only if you have money to spend. I wouldn't want to live there even if I was rich. I'd rather live in Turkey instead for example. So much history behind the country, very culturally rich, and not to mention the beautiful cities and views. Dubai is so overrated.

Tall buildings are eye catching but not ver practical in my view. If I had the where with all to invest in something unique I would, instead, design a new city in a desert clime somewhere. It would be a domed structure reaching a height of just under ten thousand feet high. Within it would be an entire city, self contained, managed in a very disciplined way. No automobiles allowed. No homeless allowed. No illegal drugs allowed. Controlled underground access via high speed rail ftrom trusted, well established ports of departure. Politics? None. No conflict between "left" and "right" nor any conflicts of interest between any religions. The idea would be to move away from the traditional human settlement andd into something entirely new. It would be a design model and testing platform for future cities on other planets.
Tall structures, when slender, are interesting from an engineering scholastic point of view but they are impractical. Consider all the time and money invested for a very limited amount of floor space. Consider also the load per sq meter on the base. A dome structure is very light in this respect. It almost floats on it's base no matter the material. And wind resistance? A dome, properly made of appropriate material, can withstand the strongest winds ever recorded on our planet. Domes make a lot more sense than any tall building on a small base.

You can vouchers on groupon cheaper than purchasing at the sales desk of the Burj Khalifa that's if you really insist on going to the top . Forgot to mention that the biggest and most glamorous building in the world doesn’t even have a sewage system and that trucks need to line up every day to clear out the waste from the building.

I read too much hate, #1. I am a contractor in the USA they don't pay us good and they pay us 9 months after we build something, this isn't slavery? Sewer was not a problem for me,I pooped and didn't see the toilet getting clogged. One thing we will never have in the USAis an spotless city like Dubai has, just go to Los Angeles and see how disgusting our US cities are. Dubai keep the good work 👏

A needless building build with slave labor and not even connected to a sewage system and poop trucks have to empty out the building everyday day. Some glamour!

In a country where everyone is on the take and there are no building codes and things are built with slave labor, I'd rather just not go there no less go into that death trap of a building.

Already we have enough such high rise buildings across globe. Further investment in future construction of such High rise buildings...it's absolute waste of resources n money.
BTW ...ur all videos are very interesting.
I have suggestions... Your fast pace commentary is very irritating 😜. Pls speak slowly 👍

There is a big return on investment from just 1.5 Billion $ Not to mention attracting millions of visitors per year to Dubai. To put this cost into context, the US Military Budget is around 700 Billion per year. Enough to build 450 Burj Khalifas EVERY YEAR. That's enough to fill every major city in the US with more than One similar building EVERY YEAR. Not to mention other countries and other wasted money around the world. Dubai is a mindset other countries should learn from.
What I don't get is, people criticise a building which is an investment for decades and a visionary achievement for a country, yet they don't see that it is just a drop in an ocean of investment in KILLING Actual human beings

    Very impressive structure.
However, I wouldn't travel to Dubai if you paid me. All that glitter and bling. Yet outside the city most of the population lives in cesspool squalor, poverty, slums and pollution.
Seems a bit paradoxical don't you think?
