Absolutely. This Disneyland special is from an era that’s long gone. Using pop music that’s not owned by Disney, especially the theme to Back to the Future! - was just crazy and cool and will never happen again. Unfortunately, it’s also why Disney will never add this to Disney+. 😢 - SO thankful it’s on UA-cam!!

Maybe you had to be there. I can't describe what the old B & W tv show Disneyland meant to me as a boy and when they devoted a couple of episodes to the building of Disneyland the park I was agape. I never made it until I was an adult and I thought the magic might be lost. It wasn't. Had it been I would have recaptured it my daughter's eyes, or in my granddaughter's on any of many visits. And I've been around a bit, I've shown my daughter the Coliseum, a double decker London bus and the Tower and the beach at Waikiki to name a few but I don't recall her being so joyous as when meeting the Three Little Pigs et al before she skipped up Main Street. Grown woman now who takes her own children to Disney World or Hong Kong Disney but that little piece of Anaheim is mine forever, a welcome respite from reality that I will always treasure.

I love how NONE of Disneyland's future plans after 1991 ever happened except for the Roger Rabbit ride 3 years later in 1993...I did go on Alien Encounter in Florida in 1997..that was fun...the park got a lot less fun for me after 2011,but I still go every so often because I'm 40 miles away and I love how young it makes me feel still....

i was born in '93 and for some reason my dad had this on tape and played it for me quite a lot. it made sense at the time, but just look at it now. the guy from night court? the music from back to the future (how did they get the rights???)? some of the cheesiest jokes, and yet some of the sweetest disney moments from my childhood are on this tape. it's so weird.

Omg I cried at the end of this. Disneyland makes me so happy when I go there. Then once I return to Montana, all my depression returns... Thankfully, when I go this summer in June 2016, I'm going with my mom and my best friend who's never been there. We are so excited! We leave in 1 month from tomorrow. 32 days right now. Me and my mom go twice a year when I was little. But we haven't been there for nearly 2 years now due to use fixing our house due to a hailstorm from 2 years ago in 2014 or 2013... Anyway, So yeah were really excited to go back this summer.

The use of licensing music such as the Back to the Future Overture from other production companies, is pretty common. As long as you're willing to pay the copyright and use fees demanded by the property owner. Keep in mind that Disney had a working relationship with the film director Robert Zemeckis( BTTFuture,1985/ Who framed Roger Rabbit 1988) around the time of this project, which I believe was 1989-1990. Plus Jeffrey Katzenburg was still part of Disney who was a strong deal maker. Also, I don't believe Universal owns the music rights, only U.S. distribution, Amblin Entertainment is the likely copyright owner of the BTTF property.. . So obtaining music rights to the theme, to associate with a prestige project, would probably be easily agreed upon among interested parties- for the right price.
I wasn't alive in the Walt Disney died however, I do remember watching Harry Anderson on TV on David's World. I thought he was hilarious I think that was in the early nineties when I was in elementary school. I didn't realize you died in 2018 rest in peace Harry.

Development and construction of the facade began in 1965 while Walt was still alive, but problems, debate over whether it should be funny or really scary and a lack of motivation following Walt's death delayed its opening until 1969. Walt Disney World was also in development at the same time and that consumed both Roy's and the imagineers' time and focus.
jtkirkfan2002 Just to chime in, the Mansion was NOT Rolly's idea. He worked on it with Yale for months, and then they were assigned to World's Fair projects. When they went back to it, Rolly was bored with it, and that is when he came up with the Museum of the Weird concept :)

Interesting at beginning of the show when the camera pans on Main Street you see the Tobacco Shop? The store was "PINES Tabacco" Next to the theater, I thought they removed them after Walt's passing away.

Here's a fact you may not know about. When Disneyland opened in 1955, the theme park was surrounded by tacky restaurants and cheap hotels and motels. The reason why it was surrounded by those buildings is because the Disney Company didn't have enough money to buy enough land, and Walt Disney hated it. That's why he has build an east coast Disneyland known as Walt Disney World at Orlando, Florida.

Interesting at beginning of the show when the camera pans on Main Street you see the Tobacco Shop? The store was "PINES Tabacco" Next to the theater, I thought they removed them after Walt's passing away.

Here's a fact you may not know about. When Disneyland opened in 1955, the theme park was surrounded by tacky restaurants and cheap hotels and motels. The reason why it was surrounded by those buildings is because the Disney Company didn't have enough money to buy enough land, and Walt Disney hated it. That's why he has build an east coast Disneyland known as Walt Disney World at Orlando, Florida.
