Those were the days when you could get to Disneyland in the morning, see the entire park, have a nice dinner in the Tiki restaurant beside the Enchanted Tiki Room, sit through A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow when you were tired, take the buckets over to Tomorrowland and get on the people movers! Then you could stroll around in the evening after most families with little ones had gone home and have a romantic ride on Pirates of the Caribbean! Oh to live a day at Disneyland in 1970 again!! I can hear the sternwheeler horn blowing in the evening too....MAGIC!!!

@Sebastian Vlogs And Fanmade And Gaming That is modern. A lot of the old making-of docs from this era (1955-1970's) are still not on Disney+, nor are a lot of Annette Funicello's movies, several episodes of the _Mickey Mouse Club_ (all versions) excluding the pilot week of the 1955 original & the "camping"' special featuring the 1970's cast (including _Facts of Life_ [as Blair Warner] alum, _Survivor_ celebrity contestant, _Jeff Probst Show_ recurring guest star & Lifetime movie regular Lisa Whelchel during her awkwardly adorable tween years) "roughing it" at Fort Wilderness (as well as the long-since defunct River Country section of Walt Disney World), the episodes of _Zorro_ starring Guy Williams as El Zorro/Don Diego De La Vega, _Welcome to Pooh Corner_ & its sister show _Dumbo's Circus_ and the Jane Fonda for-kids that was _Mousekercise_ aired in the mornings during The Disney Channel's premium years (During that time, the only "commercials" were theme park plugs, pledge drives aimed at non-subscribers, promos for other shows airing on the station...Before Disney Channel went full-on commercial with the nationwide advent of cable TV), 1980's special "Totally Minnie", the ZOOG era X Games spoof series _Z Games_ based on games invented by kids, _PB&J Otter_ created by Jim Jenkins, etc.

My favorite ride at Disneyland was The Haunted Mansion, followed by Pirates Of The Caribbean, and the rollercoaster,
I think it was called Thunder Mountain or something. An old fashioned coaster made of wood, clicking and clacking,
racing over the ups and downs so fast that your butt lifted right out of the seat.
My Grandmother LOVED "It's a Small World" because she could sit down, and she loved boats.
She also loved children, and would point out the animated kids during the ride, where they were from, and comment on the costumes.
Disney was an amazing place all right.
We could see the fireworks at night, from our backyard, during the summer season, when the park was open later for the tourist season.
They didn't set off fireworks every night, but we could see them clearly from our yard when they did.
I still have never seen anything like them all these years later.
When Disney does something, they do it better than anyone else!! That is for sure!

"Melissa Gerber" yes, that is the paradox. A lot of the original characters, ride-themes, and movies that Disney made had very creepy ideas behind them and a lot of very young kids would only be freaked out for life.

42:10 The Making of the Haunted Mansion
I have heard of the Osmonds before, but never seen them or heard them sing, until watching this. I had no idea that Donnie was the youngest. I looked this special up because I heard a bit of trivia that Donnie had studied in the Haunted Mansion when this was being filmed.
It's amazing how pure this is, and how it is not an overt advertisement for Disneyland, but still shows off that magic of the park. It's great to see all the classic attractions and characters, and too bad that a number of them are no longer at that park.

Go watch some of the video clips of them performing: Hold her tight, Down by the lazy River, Yo-Yo, one bad apple. And if you want to see them jam, go watch crazy horses and listen to that hard rock sound they tried out. Amazing stuff!

    • @obscurelyvague
      @obscurelyvague 2 роки тому

"Captain Sarcastic" Yes, this episode was fun to watch as it was not some overt movie or advertisement even though the plot was acted out and it was meant to show the behind-the-scenes things about the making of the Haunted Mansion. The Osmonds and Kurt Russell and EJ Peaker were real people, real performers.
I recall seeing this when it originally aired. I had not heard of The Osmonds then. I forgot much of the episode as the years went by and after the Osmonds became recording artists whose songs were played on radio, I thought back to this Disney episode and wondered if the performing brothers on the Disney Showtime episode were really them. Now that I can watch this old broadcast on UA-cam, I can see how much I had forgotten. I recalled that it was Alan who was "breaking the fourth wall" and talking to the camera about the making of the Haunted Mansion, not Kurt Russell. Or so I thought.
Also EJ Peaker in this Disney episode looks like Barbara Eden.

The Haunted Mansion is taken over by Jack Skellington and The Nightmare Before Christmas during the holiday season. I drove my daughter nuts wanting to go on it again and again. It was my favorite. It has all the imagineering of the standard Haunted Mansion, just jazzed up with a Halloween and Christmas twist. If you get a chance to go during the holidays to see it, I think you’d like it if you’re a Haunted Mansion fan.

The quality on this video is EXCELLENT.
It's very good for analog era videotape.
It's obviously NOT VHS! LOL Oh, we all know how well VHS ages!!!!
Very nice job on the remastering of the tape. It looks pretty good. It does not look like old, worn tape. About as best as you could expect with the average TV set back then, pre-HD, pre-LED.
Too bad Beta didn't do better but Sony has always been awful at marketing its exclusive format product. No question JVC won the videotape format war because they were more willing to "share the secrets" and their product was cheaper to make -- and again, it SHOWS on VHS tape!!!!
For nearly 40-year-old tape -- Disney Channel was launched in 1983 --, this is very, very good quality.
And yes, the programming was better back then when the Disney Company was not the bloated, authoritarian empire it is now. The night and day difference in programming! They weren't afraid to show a bunch of things and they still talked about their founders. The company today is greedy and completely out of touch with the mainstream.

"AvengerII" Thanks for the info about different film or video or tape. I hear that Disney used to be for kids of all ages, but as of recent decades it mostly has been katering to pre-teen girls with lots of "Princess" type context. I don't know about "greedy," I would surmise money has always been a pursuit but there has been a decline of the quality of its entertainment and / or a dissenting of the kind of entertainment it originally became famous for. It even has made or been involved with the making of R-rated movies. Of course it is ironic. I have heard that a lot of kids who saw Pinocchio or Snow White back when the movies were in theatres, have memories of being scared of the cryptic and eerie nature of such stories.
