@@UnicornDustDesigns I made a sign exactly as you did in the video and it came out amazing! I do have a question...what is the purpose of staining first, then painting on top of it? couldn't you just paint the wood and not stain at all knowing the vinyl won't stick to the oil-base stain?

Birch wood is a very soft wood and it takes 24 hours for it to dry. It is great to use a woodburning tool on it. I usually gesso my birch wood products because it helps with sealing it and not use so much color paint. JoAnn's has a stool that I painted and created a birthday gift for my youngest granddaughter. If I can find the picture I will send to you.
I really like the look of the birch wood. I love any type of wood. Oak is my favorite but give me wood decor any day.

So I recommend the Joy if you’re going to be doing smaller projects. If you’re wanting to do larger projects and cut more materials - not just vinyl - then I would go with the maker. Hi!!! Do you use oil or water based stain? I know for the seal coat you said water based so it does not yellow over time, but just wondering about the color stain. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful sign as always! I love the font you used. Your tutorials are always the best, you explain every little detail. I've been curious about the birch wood rounds myself and I have to agree, I love the wood grain in the pine.

Thank you Dawn! Yes, if I had a choice I would stick with the Home Depot wood rounds because of the wood grain

Do you sand in between your top coat layers? I always do on furniture items but never thought about it for decor

Nope. I never sand in between coats. And to be honest I never have issues or ripples

Good to know. I’ve started a website because I just can’t keep everything that I make anymore. my house is over flowing with DIY’s 🤣🤣 I haven’t always sealed my decor but to sell them I think I should

Hi there! I have a couple of questions for you. I've made my first few wood rounds, but after I sealed with the Helmsman Spar Urethane, I'm noticing the texture of the wood is rough, almost as if I didn't sand it prior. Is that normal? Should the rounds be smooth once completely done? Also, I'm noticing a pretty strong odor, long after the rounds have dried post application of the Urethane. I'm sending the rounds to four different friends, I just wanted to see if I should keep them for a period of time for the smell to dissipate, or will that just happen over weeks and just warn them of the odor when opening the packages? Sorry for the long questions/post. 🙂 I love watching your channel and you inspire me! Thanks!

Hi Brandie. The texture is completely normal. You can try sanding with fine grit in between coats but I don't do that . As far as the odor I don't ever notice a strong odor after applying my clear. It could be because I'm used to it but can't say it's even been an issue.

@@UnicornDustDesigns Thank you so much! My fiance jokes I'm part bloodhound, so it's likely my sensitive sense of smell. Maybe my superpower? 🦸‍♂️ Haha! I hope you enjoyed your visit with your parents. 🙂
