Jeepers. Rings was one of the first modules I purchased almost 2 years ago. I have patched it dozens of ways, recording hundreds of tracks... yet every time I see an Unperson+RINGS video, I learn something amazing about Rings❤ Thank you!
These sounds are so beautiful! 😌 There's a reason rings became a meme or a "cliche". It's like a Fender or Gibson, EVERYONE played them not just because they're cool, but they sound amazing
Hey man built my first modular rig this past week after a full year of learning & observing. Just wanted to say thank you for all the knowledge you have shared it has been the absolute key to me finding success in generating the sound I am looking for straight away. Much Love!
Having done Rings/Clouds feedback loop patching, I have to say I love the way you've explored it with Data Bender too! Also: dang, I really need a Data Bender...
Very nice patching ideas. I own both modules, oftentimes connected together. What I find interesting is that even when we are using same modules, the result is quite different.
Interesting sounds as usual, seems it's impossible to exhaust the creative potential of Rings! Always new stuff to discover. I tried the feedback idea with VCV and found the reverb string algorithm worked best. The damping knob seemed to control the harmonics and modulating that along with the brightness yields some really complex sounds. I always find it hard to get Rings in tune with anything else, but it's worth sampling and sorting that out later. Might be worth rigging up some sort of feedback patch with guitar as the input too, cheers for some useful ideas. 😉
Oh I didn’t even think to try the reverb mode! Might give that a try tonight! The guitar idea is cool too. You’re right ~ there’s always something more to try with rings! 😃
Fantastic, as usual. That piece at the end was especially sweet. I couldn't figure out where the rhythm for the bit crush around 11:00 was coming from though?
I’m using channel 1 of maths to modulate the bit crush effect on data bender. I have the effect amount knob all the way down so the bit crush is off until it receives the CV :)
My god, you found some insanely good sounds with this combo. I only have 11 HP left and was planning to get a Pam’s… but this video is making me think I should considering upgrading my case :( I’m starting to understand why they say Eurorack will bankrupt you.
Wow, all very nice patches. I've saved the video as a reminder to try some of them myself. One question, is that a DrumBrute Impact? I was pleasantly surprised that it can sound so soft ...
I'm looking at building out my first modular rack. Your channel inspired me and the direction I want to go. I wanted to do something similar to your layout but with acoustic instruments as the sound source. Acoustic guitar vocals and auxiliary percussion. What modules would you recommend? I would like to be able to freeze or loop a pattern and modulate it.
It could be worth checking out an external looper like the Boss RC-505 and pairing that with some effects modules. You’d have more/better looping options and could run it through data bender, beads and an fx aid to get all the ambience happening
Hi Ali - question for you regarding the feedback patching…….why did you use a VCA for the patch, you seem to use it as an attenuator? could you have used channels 2 and 3 of Maths instead? I have tried to recreate the patch with absolutely no success😢
Yea I was just using it as an attenuator. What was happening with your patch? I did find it worked better on some modes than others, and could go silent sometimes.
@@TheUnperson I just noticed that you weren’t using the strum input - I was! so maybe that was my problem - I’ll have another go when I get back to the UK - cheers!
Could you put the Strymon Cloudburst reverb effect pedal into your patch somewhere to add some long, almost flanging reverb effects? Certainly it could be added to the output! NICE stuff in this video!
@@TheUnperson Towards the end of drones and crush (just after 14:00) you mention that you are "using the chorus effect" but I cannot catch what you say after. What is the module to the far right in the box?
Hello! First of all suer channel, videos, music and content you post there! Respect brother! 👍 I would like to assemble my first Eurorack synthesizer for Ambient music. I already have a Behringer Neutron that could complement it, however, I would like it to be self-contained and as small a kit as possible to start with. 😁 I live in Poland, where salaries are not high and I would like to make it as cheap as possible to start with. I would very much appreciate your help in selecting the right and possibly inexpensive eurorack modules. I will be very grateful if you can find a little time for me. Thank you. Sebastian.
I think an FX Aid is worth the money due to the amount of effects available. Dreadbox makes some very good and affordable modules, as does Doepfer. They sound great and are cheap. Plaits is a very powerful oscillator, and I believe behringer do a clone for pretty cheap :)

Dude. The first feedback patch is mind blowing. Excellent ❤

I totally agree ~ it’s core sound is very beautiful!
wow, again you inspire and give ideas
Cheers man!

Cheers dude! Hope you’re enjoying your first modular rig! :)
The feedback patch is very clever and something I wouldn’t have thought of. The results are stunning
it was a nice surprise when I first tried it!

Ohh that’s a good idea.. I’ll have to try that with beads!
My god - genius stuff here Ally! Gold.
Glad you enjoyed! ☺️
That feedback patch was amazing! Brian Eno would be proud.
Definite echoes of Ambient 1!
Thank you! Massive Eno fan here ☺️

It’s one of the joys of modular!
reaaaaly love the drone jam part - sounds so epic!
Cheers fella!
Loving the second patch. Yum!
Thank you! ☺️
Amazing patches… as always your videos are full of inspiring ideas!! Thank you so much!
Thanks for the kind words ~ always appreciated ☺️
Awesome sounds!
Thank you! ☺️
That final jam is right up my alley..I need the vinyl copy..
I’d love that!!
3 minutes into this video and my mind already blown!
Glad to hear it ☺️
The freeze + v/o patch was so good!
I like that one too :)

Great videos! Is impact clocked by Arturia? How do you get it in sync?

One question, is that a DrumBrute Impact?
I was pleasantly surprised that it can sound so soft ...
Thanks! It is indeed. It can play nicely if you keep the distortion down :)

thank you! :)
Very tasty sounds here.
Cheers!
does your Data bender give like a hicut at 5khz even if set at 100% dry ?
mine does, seemingly no matter what settings i give it
I can’t say I’ve noticed that on mine!
What are you getting the chorus from?
@@h2o1969 which section is it that has chorus?

So, are you who I send the bill to when I buy all the stuff you use? Man, such great demos in musical context thanks I love the music!
Haha thank you! Sorry about the bank balance 😅
