Omg, the moment the drums kicks in in the jam around 8:56 its pure 🔥🔥. My Plaits clone is on the way for my first modular... Cant wait! Congrats on the video!
Also forgot to say how much I love the music you have in the videos! Seriously the beats you make with that 808 and the modular synth sound great. I'm subscribed for sure. Thank you
Long time subscriber here; I don't comment usually, but just wanted to say that I love your tunes, voice and your overall style. Relaxing to listen to your vids while doing other work.
Enjoy your videos. Building a lil Eurorack piece by piece myself. Using the Nifty case Pamela’s pro and Plaits are the first two going into it The rest of my lil dream build to follow
Perfectly timed video for me - I just got plaits recently. Only have a small system, so figured it would be a great starting place. Looking forward to exploring plaits and you've given some great places to start. Looking forward to part 2! Cheers.
Your Plaits series made me purchass this module instantly. 😄 Love this module! Im posting my first jam with it soon. Thanks for teaching me anout this great module!
So deliciously musical! Thanks for making learning this great. Finally got to work all the way thru this vid, trying out everything. You've opened up so many creative doors for me with your videos. 🤩 Looking forward to Plaits 2 -4 vids!
Lovely. I can recommend the Omri Cohen plaits series. Each entry is a patch where the entire song is made using one mode of plaits. It's done in VCV Rack, so you end up with 10+ plaits per patch. Not the kind of thing you would do in hardware, but the ideas are great.
Ah, thanks for yet another great video! Especially appreciate that you spend proper time on each model. I will be returning to the twin waves model on my plaits now, and I don't think I quite realised the degree of depth in the individual models. Thanks!
@@TheUnperson Yeah, my go to has been using the drum models and then sequencing models choice with a korg sq-1 to have a little drum machine in my rack.
This is a lovely sample of the possibilities for Plaits. I love how it sounds _so_ _different_ from other examples. I'm inspired to explore Plaits further - specifically diving deeper and playing with the Timbre and Morph relationships coupled with the different internal LPG settings. Cool!
I have the ALA version of Plaits.. It was the first Digital sound source I added to my case.. It took a year before I really started to work with it and now it’s my usual start point.. I use a Matrix Mixer to create CV sources for it and see where we go.. One fav trick is adding RND CV to the Model input which never fails to make me laugh.. I ❤ the Vowel and Speech algorithm and can nearly have a coherent conversation with..👍
Very nice run through of the excellent Plaits. Although I'm fairly comfortable with Plaits, I ended up spending hours going through the various models and tweaking Harm/Timbre/Morph in infinite combinations. I wasn't aware of being able to use the three unpatched attenuverters in that way. Great stuff...
Very Nice! Remember to cover applying complex envelopes into the "Level" (e.g. Tides & Maths). Plaits also pairs very well with a multi-mode analog filter with the LPG set to VCA. Plaits as an oscillator is under-valued. Then there is Plaits into Rings...
Strange, but in 4:04 i trying to use littleknob timbre and little knob morph and they doesn't workin, in other presets like green and red they working but with new firmware they don't... what i making wrong? Can you help me Please?
I think in the DX7 patches they won't work as the envelope information is a part of the patch already. It should work on the other modes but I'm not 100% certain about that.
Nice vid man. Ive had two Plaits for a long time but never managed to get them sounding as good as you have here. Gonna schedule an afternoon of newly inspired practice 😇☕️
@@TheUnperson I did yeah: been practicing a lot with my small setup and its beginning to look a lot like yours in a way ☺️ ua-cam.com/video/iDcp5QyFoBM/v-deo.html
Another great demo. Plaits was my very first module a few years ago and is still my most used. What type of compression or end of chain effects do you use for your recordings? Everything sounds so clean and well balanced.
Thank you! I record everything into ableton and mostly use the stock EQ and compression. I like to use the Vulf compressor on the drums and I have the FMR Audio Really Nice Compressor at the end of my eurorack chain.
Of course Plaits is a great VCO but as always, it's the effects that make it sound really good! Love the part at the end with Beads and Databender, I would just sample that all day. It's already been mentioned that Plaits is available for free in VCV, there's also a new module in the Surge for Rack collection called Twist VCO. It's based on the Plaits model but seems even better, I haven't figured out why yet but it's ace!
Great vid. Inspired to experiment more with plaits through a filter with envelope on cutoff - didn’t realise it could get that acidy and expressive. Have you tried putting the mod/velocity out of keystep into the cv inputs ? That’s fun too.
Awesome video , for some reason my plaits doesn’t go as low in the pitch as yours , I’ve tried sequencing it with 2 different sequencers and the pitch stays pretty high compared to yours . I can’t find out what’s the problem 😅
Cheers man! There’s been a couple more folks have commented on the videos with the same problem. There is a calibration process you can do which is in the manual. You need to enter calibration mode and then you can enter 2 notes, 2 octaves apart and it should recalibrate the range of the module. Hopefully that will fix it!
@dannydavid4754, if calibration process doesn't work, press and hold the "A" button on the right (the button you'd normally enter into the Red models with). Lights should turn orange. Keep holding the button down while you rotate the Harmonics knob. You should see one orange light moving up/down the 8 possible locations. This is setting Frequency to different octave ranges. The lower your orange light, the lower the Frequency range. Hope that makes sense!
I got the case second hand and experienced some issues with the power.. cre8 audio are sending me out a replacement power supply when they're back in stock :)
@@TheUnperson Yeah, I also want to do a Plaits 1.2 video and it will be fun to see all those different approaches. I really love yours btw, very musical and entertaining.
the jam around 12:17 is what sold me on getting an OG plaits. Goes hard
cant even believe how good the patch sounds at 2:38. mesmerizing
Omg, the moment the drums kicks in in the jam around 8:56 its pure 🔥🔥. My Plaits clone is on the way for my first modular... Cant wait!

Can't wait to hear part 2. And 3 and 4 and 5 as well.
Perfect timing... I just scored an original Plaits on eBay yesterday. Looking forward to parts 2, 3, 4, 5... ;-)
congrats on your new osc. I hope you have a lot of fun with it 🤓
haha nice! How are you liking it so far?
@@TheUnperson Loving it... a huge number of sound possibilities in there! Just about to check out your Part 2 😊
Cool video! I've not long bought a secondhand Plaits and a Beads and came across your video today, and I love the sounds you were producing!
Thank you! Plaits and Beads is an exceptionally fun module combo ~ hope you’re enjoying them!

an oscillator so good that other manufacturers put it in their synths!
So true! I'm very tempted by the minifreak - I wanna have a plaits in poly!

Hi what reverb did u use? Thanks
It’s the black hole algorithm on the FX Aid :)
If you had to choose a digital oscillator to keep would you keep the Alm Mco or Plaits?
If I had to choose I'd probably go for Plaits because of the versatility and depth. Big fan of the MCO tho, especially love having a sub!
