The Art Of Vocal Mixing: ➡️ bit.ly/the-art-of-vocal-mixing
This week’s tutorial is a step-by-step guide to parameter found on reverbs called pre-delay. Website: soundoracle.net/
Reverb is an incredible tool for creating depth & space, but if it’s used incorrectly it can create muddiness & a crowded mix. Luckily there are parameters that can not only fix this issue, but help create a spacious & dreamy sounding reverb.
Pre-delay is the gap of time between the direct sound & the decay of the sound. When used properly this tool can help create the perfect amount of space between your audio source & the reverb. We will be using some math in this video, so get your calculators ready & be prepared to become an expert at pre-delay!
Follow along as professional engineer Eric “Realistic” Michael breaks down his techniques to executing the perfect pre-delay.

Lincoln Microphone LLC 🙏🏼
Cool thanks for explaining
Thank you bro
Very helpful thank you
You are the man bro
AMADEUZ Connected thank you!
Thank you
I use the word "pristine" to describe most very clean and crisp recordings. For example, Nashville Country during a chorus seems to have a lot of reverberation and yet not washing out the sound. My own recordings do not have this crisp, clean, pristine quality so I am searching your video to obtain that. You may reply directly to my email if that is appropriate, with any suggestions. Thank you!
It was helpful to me
Great tutorial! Definitely learned something from this
That's awesome man. Glad the video was helpful!
Word. Good one. Never new. Thought I always just picked a bad preset. Lol!
@@aldraias1 I feel that! I was the same way for several years. Math is clutch with reverbs.🙏🏼
Wow bro thank you very nice 👌
Thank you🙏
You’re welcome!
Thanks man
Isa Sen you’re welcome!
Great info! Can you talk about panning sometime?
THX Bro , You're a life saver !! And I'm diggin' the Aaliyah pic!
tks
Oh wow.
Hey man one question! For those bpm's that can be either fast or slower, for example, choosing between 170 or 85, which math should I use? sometime I prefer the faster bpm just because the faster click keeps me on time better, so that's what ill set my project to, But would it be better to use 85 when doing the math for the pre delay? Or does it depend on how fast the vocal lines are? etc. Great video by the way! Thanks
Any good websites that do the maths for you ,
I like your tutorials, I have been trying to figure out the reverb and delays. I know there is pre delay for reverbs and delays is a different effect. From my understanding these 2 are used when trying to make the vocal sit nicely in a song.
Example, most of the time the vocal sits where the snare hits, or slightly above. Reverb can be used for depth, to push or make it seem the vocal is pushed back, delay to bring it a little forward and with the proper volume the vocal will sit properly in a song. is that correct?
Sour Lito hey thanks for watching. Yeah all the points are pretty accurate. The great thing about the pre-delay parameter, is it allows your vocal to cut threw initially, bringing it more forward and delaying the depth effect that the reverb gives.
@@realisticproductionsLLC Cool, it is difficult to get the hang of it. Practice makes perfect
Sour Lito - for sure. That’s the key! The math in this video should help a lot though!
@@realisticproductionsLLC For sure but I have an app that calculates predelay, reverb, and delays. But I also do it in my heads to keep everything circulating, lol
@@realisticproductionsLLC I have one more question, after I have completed my ruff mix (No EQ's, Comps etc) I start to add EQ's and comps where needed. So on and so forth, then when I am ready to bus out to a Reverb on an aux track etc the AUX with the reverb or delay isn't getting enough signal (Volume is to low) what is the best thing to do in that case? Should I add a gain plugin (Like Trim) to raise the input to that AUX? should I place the bus on Pre Fader? What?
I do apologise for all the questions, but I appreciate your replies.
Thank you!how to calculate a 6/8song pdl
Wang Super these calculations will work for 6/8 also, since the amount of milliseconds in one minute won’t change based on time signature.
What is this song?
is predelay that sound effect that comes before the vocals even really start so it sounds like “ehhhhh *real vocals kick in* and i hate you*?
Tr!ll V!ll no. That would be a reverse reverb effect.
Pre-delay allows the vocal to cut through dry 1st by delaying the sound of the reverb.

you choise good song for example :P
Danix thank you!
The more I know about music production the more I know I don’t know shit
Pre comes after lol

I disagree!
Thank you!
