Commonly asked questions/comments that I'm now going to answer in bulk:
1) You cannot dunk the ball - as you are not allowed to touch the korf or post during play.
2) Yes, Korfball is a thing and yes people choose to play it over basketball. Get over it.
3) Saying 'Lebron' and 'Steph' would kill these guys at their own game, is like saying Conor McGregor beating Floyd Mayweather at boxing. How did that work out again?
Ninh Ly uuhhh but LeBron is an athletic freaks who are 6'8.
Physical attributes aside, but can Lebron beat a pro in a completely different sport he's never played in? Interesting experiment, but doubtful.
Ninh Ly it would be a little foolish to think that someone like curry wouldn't excel at getting the ball through that hoop
+Lord Kami - Different size and weight ball, different diameter hoop, different height of hoop, different game altogether.
Ninh Ly True, saying that is pretty disrespectful to the players who train very hard for the sport they love. I do think that many top NBA players could be below average to average when they start playing though
i'm learning a lot from these videos. until today i'd never even heard of korfball.
+Ricky Waugh It's an interesting sport I can tell you that!
Lol same here
I live in France and I never have heard of this sport I'm guessing that it's a thing in northern or eastern europe...
@@xdteftef2591 its only popular in holland, belgium and for some reason fking Taiwan. Its pretty cool but u safe m8
It's like if whole foods was a sport
+JerryOC Interesting analogy! Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Should be renamed SJW-ball
Ninh Ly that wasn't a compliment...
Jerry lmfao
I'm wondering if every game ends in a tie so everyone is a whinner....I mean winner.
The sport has also been rapidly evolving over the past years, you can now swap players 8 times, you can swap the same players in and out of the game and a 25-second shot clock was added. There's this event called the Korfball Challenge each year between Christmas and New Year's, where new rules are tested annualy.
Yes, I believe so.
As a Dutch korfball player, this is a very clear explanation!
this seems like a soft game developed at a very PC school that is super inclusive and safe. It looks fun, but overly pillowy.
Read the top comment.
Ninh Ly it’s not a bad point. The sport tries way to hard to make everything equal
Yes I think I agree, although i think its a pretty old game like 1900's of something. plus it's far too long at 30 minutes per half especially when you have to keep moving the ball quickly. I think 3 thirds of 15 minutes with a 2 minute break in between would be better.
Lol are you one of those people that’s hates golf or tennis and what not because it’s a “nerd” sport or it’s to pillowy there isn’t contact in it? When in reality if people like you went to actually try the sport and sucked because it’s actually really difficult, if just laugh as you embarrass yourself
Miller TimeEast no, my favourite sport is volleyball, where I have played 2 levels above my age group, with multiple awards. I played tennis for my school team where we placed 2nd our area. You are probably the guy who doesn’t play sports because he can’t catch a ball…
FUnny enough this game is played in quite some nations 69 to be exact Korfball is played in 69 countries including the United States, China, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Greece, Serbia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, India, The Netherlands, Belgium, Nigeria, Morocco, Ghana, Russia, Germany, Taiwan, Turkey, Hong Kong, Portugal, Pakistan, India, Sweden, Hungary, Philippines, Indonesia, Italy, Spain, France and Romania, Krofball even was an exhibition sport at the 1920s olympics .
I think this is the first time I've ever seen a mix gendered sport where the gender becomes an element of strategy and play making. Very interesting!!!!!
Yes, I believe so!
Believe me as a someone who's playing for over 10 years, it's still fun and you always learn new things!
Ninh Ly I think the mixed gender thing is great for a pro league!
Check out club mixed ultimate (frisbee). It was the first mixed gender sport I ever played
Mixed doubles. Hit to the girl
People always say this is like a soft sport but in the netherlands Korfball is in the top 3 sports that cause the most injuries, mostly because it is quite physical especially on higher levels
There... are...so... many.. sports... I've... never... heard... of...
I just started this youtube thing and I'm taking notes. You have great presentation and clarity. It's wonderful. You find a way to make everything simple to digest.
DannyTheConsumer I know, right?!
Thanks for commenting on these videos. I try my best to get people to understand these sports in the simplest way I know how. So I'm glad that you think so and am glad that you picked up on that!

DannyTheConsumer there are sports with kites wtf you are absolutely right
Ninh:”Korfball is very popular in europe“
Me:“I‘ve never heard about that game“
A lot of people haven't, but people still play and watch it.
It’s mostly played in north-western Europe i.e. UK, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, chech republic, etc. It’s been getting increasingly popular in Asia, Oceania and Africa, with China, Australia, South-Africa, Taiwan and Suriname getting better and better each world games
@@frontrowviews
"Increasingly popular in Africa"
Having a few players in one country on an entire continent is not "increasingly popular in Africa".
At least say increasingly popular in South Africa which isn't even true because most South Africans don't even know the sport exists.
Me before watching: This is just weird basketball
Me after watching: I have no idea what this is
Might need to watch it again, then.
After rewatching this for the 10th time I noticed one thing you missed. So, for all the people that want to play korfball, here it is:
As Ninh explains, there are several conditions that you need to validate on in order for your defending to be valid. There is one left out in this video: your feet need to be on the ground. Some people don't know this (heck, a lot don't) but it's a rule. You can jump while defending, you'll never get the ball when the shot goes through.
For people who are saying basketball players would kill this game, that korf is literally a double rim with no net. Absolute hell on earth. Mad respect to these players for being able to shoot on it
So you're saying that just because the rim has no net and is "double" in size, that a basketball person couldn't do it? You have no idea about inner city BB in the US. Grew up playing on netless rims and a lot of playgrounds have double rims on them. Maybe an adjustment, but If you can shoot, you can shoot.
Very grateful to see this video made in high quality. One of the best team sports deserves it.
Thanks, much appreciated! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
You are joking right?
I sexually identify as an Apache Attack Helicopter and I'm extremely offended that I cannot play this sport
Korfball players are traditionalists xD
Reece Palmer this just made my day. Goddamn it
What a shitty day...
Why? Just do what these people did and invent your own sport. Literally no-one is stopping you.
Theres a difference between gender and sexuality
This sounds like a sport my P.E. teacher would make to make it fair for the girls
Different kind of concept, but yes.
It literally is
😂
There's one major thing you forgot to tell, I used to play korfball and half of the season in spring, summer and sometimes in autumn as well korfball is played outdoors on (fake)grass (like hockey). Depending on the wether not all countries are able to play outside.
+Louisa van den Brink As you can imagine, I can't explain every rule, variation or change about Korfball in the space of 4 minutes. Yes, I'm fully aware that it can be played outdoors. But a total beginner who wants to know the rules, doesn't necessarily need to know that. Thanks for your input, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
I love how personally he’s taking everyone’s comments. Relax Korf commander
I try to!
This looks mad. Love everything about looks way more fast paced than normal sports. Is equal in male and female participation. 10/10 great video
Thanks! Glad you like this video.

It's a great video but the sport looks lame.
Give it a try, it's not that bad! Thanks for the comments, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Im Dutch, and play Korball. Its much more fun and a lot harder than what it looks like, since you're cknstantly on the move, and you need to keep an eye on An average 4 people at once.
It is much nicer to do than to watch! I played my last game about 25 years ago and still miss the game and dynamics. You have to be a quite allround athletic to play on a high level in the Netherlands, Belgium and a few other countries. There come quite some relationships from being member of korfball clubs, and quite some children are grateful that this game exists otherwise it would have been quite unlikely that they were born. My experience is that korfball players are more used to deal in a natural appreciative way with the other gender than team sporters who do their sport only with their own gender.
Nalanda Tendar go and play it again then
Nalanda Tendar Its honestly Just a shit sport i played it ones but it was lame as fuck
Very helpful! In Birmingham we are working to add this sport as we prepare for 2021 World Games
+scotty colson Thanks Scotty, I I hope Korfball is added to the World Games too! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Ive been playing korfball for 6 years now and im so proud
Awesome, thanks for stopping by!!
I’ve been playing korfball since i was 4 and never knew how to explain it to my non-dutch speaking friends but from now on i will just send them this video :] (im almost 14 now so i’ve played it for nearly 10 years :0)
Yes I have done the same! Tried doing just that, in the end I took them to one of my clubs matches to see a game being played. I started playing korfball after seeing a match at Crystal Palace in 1985
@@patrickblake4930 Thats really cool! I started playing because of my cousin aha
Imagine a bunch of 7ft NBA players vsing Korfs best team. I would pay to watch it 😂
It'd be interesting to see if these guys could actually play given the rules.
Nah itd b nba and wnba. Thatd be fire tbh lol
It sounds like they’d beat them until you realize that you can’t shoot once you’re defended which seems stupid to me
This is a very typical Dutch sport. Most of us are 7 ft anyway🤣
Metro Boomin I bet they’d have a hard time because no backboard and no dunking
I am Dutch and played this sport for 10 years, loved it, anyone interested in doing this, please do it's amazing
Very good explanation of the basic korfbal rules. Thanks!

I play korfbal by Fortuna Delft one of the best Korfball League clubs. The sport is small but it grows a lot!
Awesome! It is a cool sport, shame it's not more popular than it is.
The video: This sport is very popular in Europe.
Me, a European: **doubt** 😂
So this video got actually shared by the coach of the Dutch national team! Congrats Ninh!

This game looks so cool! Great video by the way
Yes it's pretty cool, but only really played in Europe. Thanks for the compliments! :)
People comparing this to Basketball clearly didn't watched the video well. Most of the rules of Basketball is not applicable in Korfball. And it is highly disrespectful to
Korfball player suggest that a Basketball player would be great in this sports when you have no basis to say that other than thinking this sports is similar to basketball.
I think this is a refreshing twist on the basketball premise. The strategy and playmaking to get a clear unguarded shot looks to be very interesting.
It's certainly a different dynamic to standard basketball. Everyone assumes that it plays the same, but are shocked to find that it's totally different.
Ima tell you, i have bin playing this sport for 7 years and this video explains it very well. If my friends ask me about korfball i just send them this ahha
I thought I've heard of and seen every sport at this point in my life.......I guess I was way wrong. PS I love your videos.
MetalLovinSportsLover You're welcome. I try and make videos of obscure sports that aren't TOO obscure. I've been asked for some weird and wonderful stuff that I don't think I'd ever make a video of. But stuff like Korfball is an internationally recognised sport, so I felt compelled to make it. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share my videos and subscribe if you haven't already :)
Very good explanation of the basic korfbal rules thanks
Excellent Job! Will direct others to view. One bit is incorrect and that is the landing foot bit. The rule allows you to choose which foot to use as your landing foot AND you can change pivot foot. Small movements with out gaining an appreciable advantage is never blown up for. Thanks
Sub rule is also wrong now.
Thinking of starting playing this seems awesome!
thanks for making his video, im gonna play this in school and i have no idea what it is till now, thanks :)
Thanks Faris, I'm glad this video helped! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
thank you for making this video, they are really helpful. we are from the Netherlands and Mexico.
what if you shake the hoop so the ball misses???
also there are so many idiots getting triggered over the idea of men and women playing a sports game together so saddddd
You cannot touch the Korf or the post. This would be illegal.
And I agree .. it is sad that many people are irked by women playing the same sport as men.
I find it oddly disturbing.
Yup that's actually foul play and you will get a free pass or maybe even a penalty, not sure.
Ninh please make a video
difference between cricket and baseball if you don't mind
since your way of explaining is easier to understand and you have deep knowledge of both the sports.
The differences are fairly explanatory kinda like chalk and cheese. I don't think a separate video is required.
When it comes to marking an opponent (especially when defending) does that mean u have to mark the same person throughout the whole time u play or can u switch to whoever else has the ball as long as only one person is marking/defending against them?
I believe you can switch, though you have to mark a person of the same gender.
I think for the sake of familiarity, you generally mark the same person all game.
Yes, you can 'switch' to the other person during the game. You can see that in the video a few times when they try to run past the defender, and quickly places the ball to the other attacker. As mentioned, it has to be the same gender.
Something else I've noticed from reading the rules: height doesn't matter. People who say NBA pros would be good at korfball fail to realize that even if they tower over the defender, they can't just shoot over their heads while being defended. Korfball is a sport where strategy, not size, is more important.
Sir Ly! We really missed you!
How unusual this is for a game! I like it!
DE7ChainedDoor Hey man, I know I've not been here for a few weeks - busy with life and stuff and all that. Hopefully now that it's all calmed down, I'll be making more videos etc.
As for Korfball - it seems unusual but I think it could be really popular if taught in schools etc.
Thanks for stopping by! :)
spend my whole childhood on this game, kinda really miss it haha
It's a cool sport, for sure.
This seems like a SJW designed sport
Lucas Leturia Kind of, although the premise of gender and role equal is actually quite refreshing. It takes some getting used to certainly, but I can see its appeal. Be sure to help me out by sharing this video :)
I like the idea of a game played by men and women on the same team, what I don't like is the only same sex marking. Do they want to pretend we are equal or not?
Anyways, I've told all of my american friends who want to get into "soccer" about your channel, but I don't know where I could post it like massively
Lucas Leturia I dunno, I think it levels the playing field a little bit - so I don't have a problem with same gender marking. It looks a little strange if you've never played by these rules before.
As for sharing, if you have Facebook / Twitter, just use the links below the video and it does it all for you!
Thanks again :)
Why? Because women get to play allongside men?
+Tariq Amirs "But as far as I am concerned, women are biologically are in some percentage weaker than men," and that is exactly why men in most cases don't get to defend woman. They are physically stronger than woman which would make the game unplayable for them.
Further more, korfball has a wide variety of roles. The coach always makes sure the men take the roles that are more physical (like being the rebound under the korf) and the woman the less physical ones. That's why woman are a lot of the times deadly with short distant shots.
A small detail: the length of the game varies when the field is outside or inside. Inside is a total of 60min, outside is 70min.
Yes.
Not anymore it's 60 minutes outdoors now too., they reduced the size of the outside field too it used to be 60 by 30 now 40 by 20.. clubs stills have some years to adjust to it so 60 by 30 is still allowed.
@@djinthemixxX it still is here 70min outdoor and 60 indoor ;)
*two dudes enter as the two women*
Officials: uhh... you need 2 women
The dudes: DID YOU JUST ASSUME OUR GENDER?!?!
I don't think that would fly with a Korfball official ... but nice try!
@Billy Bob in most parts in Europe its not allowed you could get yourself killed bcuz of that and thats why i love my country
@Billy Bob in my country gays and transgenders are banned, people often say they are not welcome over here
@Billy Bob it wouldn't fly here because the rest of the world is not retarded lmao
This sport makes Golf look like fun!
thats one of the ugliest jumpshots Ive seen
It's not pretty, but it works.
It's NOT basketball.
It isn't supposed to look like a jumpshot. In korfball you shoot with two hands and not a guidehand and shootinghand
One rule that isn't mention. If the Player give the ball to a teammate like at 2:06-2:09 you can't shoot after that 'pass'. The ball must pass before you shoot.
wouter den hengst There's a lot of rules I didn't mention as this is a simple rules video for total beginners. Thanks for the input though, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Play, Nice video btw
Play=okay...
Most politically correct sport ever
I'm sure that's not the reason why this sport was created, but you're probably right.
Not at all. The sport recognizes the physical inferiority of women. But still allows them to play together through this set of rules. It's good fun.
Dib you just proved it. Why would they segregate genders within the game, to make everybody feel good? The true potential of the game is then not being realized.
Interesting game. A great way to play together.
1:57 Traveling. She jumps off and lands with her left leg, then proceeds to use her right leg as the landing foot. We just caught something the ref's did not.
Cool.
This is a weird ass sport..
+NeverTrustAnAtom Ah, it's not so bad. Very popular in Europe! Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
+Ninh Ly if you say so...
+NeverTrustAnAtom I do say so. But if you want a 'weird ass' sport - type in 'calcio storico' into UA-cam ... now THAT is a weird ass sport!
+Ninh Ly wow.. I just watched a game and have NO idea whats going on. Is it like a big fight or what?
+NeverTrustAnAtom Believe it or not, it's one of the oldest forms of soccer!
The idea of the game is for your team to get a ball and push it into your opponents back wall BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. This includes wrestling, punching, kicking and basically anything you can think of.
You can't double team somebody, but anything else is basically legal.
Makes Korfball look sane, right?!
thank you i am going to play it in school tommarow and this explained it all
Anton Exerman That's a good club sport to increase participation in gym
yeay..after win they can bath together...
Holy shit, that's not a bad idea! :)
😂😂😂😂😂😂
The males from the winning team are rewarded with the females from the losing team
@@rivahkillah congratulations, your prize is a stupidly sweaty person!

@@flodehennin7922 I 100% believe you.Take any sport to the highest level (that requires cardio) and the intensity it is played at will leave any athlete drenched in sweat.
Why "you can't shoot while being defended" is a rule? Isn't the purpose of defending not allowing the other player to shoot? It sounds unnecessarily artificial
I have no idea, it just is that way.
I first heard about it when Charlize Theron mentioned it on Jimmy Kimmel
Did she? I never saw that one.

Thanks man, glad this helped!
And Apache helicopter guards another Apache helicopter.
I don't think Apache Helicopters are allowed to play Korfball.
Correct. And Gender Neutral defends Gender Neutral Kappa.
Exactly the video I was looking for! THanks!
Really nice video, and that's a good thing you explain all these rules. I've never heard of korfball before, but the concept of having the 2 genders inside a same team is interesting.
+Canne TV Yes, I find that both genders can play the sports really interesting. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Pretty odd sport but I like the gender equality rules. It also acknowledges the current physical superiority of males and still manages to make the teams both male and female. The Dutch should be proud of this one!
Yes indeed. It's an odd concept, but one worth at least trying out in a sport. Thanks for stopping by.
Did anybody hear his voice crack at 0:38 seconds when he said attacking zone
Did you mention that before?
Korfball is an amazing sport you all should find a local club and start playing.
Absolutely! I agree.
ok
@2:00 she lifts her left foot which touched the ground first. EDIT: They are constantly doing this if you watch in slow-mo
I believe they're allowed to pivot very similar to basketball.
Good video, terrible idea for a sport.

Its not i play it its pretty big in my country
@@allasar in my country atleast for the males it's alot of pushing each other
@@allasar still better than NBA, where foul was called even no contact, and flopping.
@@allasar basketball is more physically intense for sure, but also a no-brainer game imo, really depends on what you declassify as a real sports
Its funny seeing all these people say basketballers would beat a team of professional korfballers. Shooting in korfball is totally different as you get pressured while you shoot, which happens too in basketball but a lot less intensively
In short: I agree with everything you said.
This is true gender neutral gameplay. Now let the transgender community in.. that'll cause some confusion.
That's an interesting concept.
It actually isn't very much. It would be if men were allowed to guard women and vice versa, but not like this.
There are some other things you need to be when you want to defend. Your feet have to be on the ground for example.
Yes, but I've tried to simplify it so that a complete beginner can understand.
One thing that is a bit confusing is that you switch from guarding to defending. We have always used the term defending throughout, though as a player I know what you mean by guarding as subtly different from defending but maybe confusing for new people? They may think it is two different functions completely?
Nah i'll be at basketball
Fair enough.
superb ,helped me a lot
Thanks for the comments, I'm glad this video helped!
Basketball and soccer combined and turned more European
Basically yes. But I suppose it's closer to Netball than it is Basketball.

people who played this before, is it fun?
I believe so, yes! Thanks for the comments, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
it's amazing!
Its fun
tried it already and I had fun! thanks guys
The fact that you can't move with the ball forces you to really think about positioning, timing and tactics. You als have to be great at passing. There are great skills to be learned to defeat your opponent in the 1v1(when attacking or rebounding). And shooting from great distances as well as being able to pass your opponent by tricking them is both very very satisfying.
As someone who had to change from playing basketball to korfball at college level due to a spine injury preventing me from being able to play contact sports, although a lot of skills are transferable like basic ball handling skills and pressure on defence, you still need to develop new skills to be competitive. Also, suggesting that because women play that it stops it being competitive is just backwards, having both genders on court and having rules that stop playing against the opposite gender actually creates new situations in game and makes things fair.
You could claim it has a lot of arbitrary rules, but so does every sport. EVERY rule in a sport or game is arbitrary, it doesn't make the rules worse or stupid.
Yes exactly! I couldn't have said that better myself.
So many narrowminded haters on here - I don't know if they honestly think that stuff or whether they're trying to get a rise out of people, but if the world really is that hateful - then we're all in trouble.
Thanks for commenting.
wait u get to shoot a layup from a foul? lol thats awesome
+Tom Carney Pretty much - it's the easiest and most guaranteed way to score from a penalty. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
You can't place the foot in front of the penalty spot. Technically you could use the same technique in basketball, as long as you release the ball before you land :)
Subsitution rule has changed from 4 to 8
Thanks.
Bruh steph curry would be a god at this game😂
Do we need to be tall to play korfball ? What is the ideal height range ?
You don't have to be tall, but it does help!
This is a incredibly confusing but really cool equality game.
PawsDuhPup equality games don’t seem like a real sport to me
It's closer to Netball than Basketball. Travelling is a pretty important rule and why I prefer Basketball.
I think so. But each to their own in terms of personal preference.

Can you make a video explaining DBL Ball rules? I'm not sure if they have to be "big" sports for you to make a video about it though!
I have no idea what DBL Ball is?!
SOUNDS....
COMPLICATED
IT'S ....
NOT.
You want to make this more fun, let players shoot whenever they want like in basketball so there’s more physical contact to try and keep the offense away from the basket
But then it'd be virtually no different to basketball.
Besides, teams score enough anyway.
Wow people care more about korfball than bandy
+Christian Villena It appears that way, doesn't it?!
Looks like a great sport to play and watch
Yeah it's fun.,

Matt Stringer Maybe if I get enough demand for it. Thanks.
Looks fun, I’d love to play it with my daughters.
But it just a slightly more versatile version of netball, or a much less athletic version of Basketball! Can’t imagine this sport gaining much traction in the mainstream sports world!
Except that it's played internationally already. So ....
Ninh Ly lots of sports are played in more than one country, but are still relatively unknown and unpopular because, partly because they aren’t fun spectator sports. Netball, Bowls and of course, Korfball being a few of them!
