  • While doing maintenance on my jeep I’m finally getting around to doing the transmission fluid flush. I will also change the transmission fluid pan to a pan that has a drain plug this way it’s easier in the future to perform this task.
I brought all my parts from rock auto
Keep in mind that I had to add more than the 6 quarts that they said was needed I had to add a complete 7 quarts but I also changed both of the transmission filters

This is a transmission fluid change, not a flush.
To flush WJ's you need to disconnect trans cooler return line from radiator and hook up a 3/8" ID rubber hose or vinyl tube to the return line and run that hose into a container or bucket that fan hold 10+ quarts.
The pan only holds 40% of the total TransFluid in the transmission. It is still in the transmission and torque converter.
You have to shift through gears to set it in Neutral to turn the pump on to push ATF out return line until you see bubbles and turn off engine or you can mark a 3 quart line on container and pump till you get to that line and top it off 3 quarts and do the exact same thing again until the fluid coming out is crystal red in color.
If you have very dark fluid, black then you probably should only do a transmission fluid change every 30K miles and have your transmission checked by a transmission shop. You likely have metal shavings and transmission damage.
If its between red and black then you are good to change fluid every 40-50K miles. The filters are good for 80K miles according to my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L 45RFE owners manual.

Hello! Thank you for the tutorial. I was wondering, I bought the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 5.7L Overland Trim with 166,350 KM on it. I was wondering if I can syphon the transmission oil from the oil stick location (on the hood) and add a new transmission oil from there too. Good idea or nah?

Yeah you can on the Mercedes that’s the process you have to do to change the engine oil. So I wouldn’t see why that wouldn’t work.

@@Frank_tha_tank1 Yeah, I figured it's more safe that way than to do a flush that way I don't risk running the transmission dry in the beginning. Thank you for the feedback.

Dude you use a gasket maker or a regular gasket?

I brought the regular gasket this way it saves the mess that the gasket maker can cause

@demonxslayer5 it’s been holding up fine my car is at 229k miles and I tow with it my boat and cars and the transmission hasn’t given me any problems

Unfortunately leaving the pan off over night caused all my transmission fluid to drain out completely and I needed 10 quarts to fill
