  • Edman degradation is a a method used for the sequencing of peptide/protein. In this method the peptide is allowed to react with edmans reagent under mild alkaline conditions. The edmans reagent reacts with
the N terminal amino acid and forms a complex. This complex is then cleaved from the peptide and separated by chromatography or electrophoresis. The method can be repeated several times to find the sequence of the peptide.
