Can't believe that this was made nearly 18 years ago! I was one of the video assist operators, making sure all the monitors for all the cameras (there were a lot!) were all running, and recording every frame. So many cables. So much paint! A crazy, stressful job, but a hell of a lot of fun too.
according to the "making of -- " video, there actually was no use of CGI at all and the paint used was environmental friendly. The locals even enjoyed watching the filming of this ad.
AndyHappyGuy yeah I moved to toryglen just after this ad when I was 6 and the whole place had color everywhere they flats got knocked down not long after the ad
actually they did. This commercial had the effects done by one of the biggest effects companies in the business. The work they did on this thing is amazing.. Still hard to see where they could have done it better. Their work is literally perfect on this. great commercial!
Yea this was real, it was filmed in Glasgow. I watched it being filmed and I can can honestly tell you, it was class! Btw they didn't clean up because that whole area was demolished pretty much after they finished filming.
@alfredoseow These buildings were on Glasgow, Scotland. They were ordered for demolition so they used these building so they wouldn't have to clean up afterwords. They were then demolished.
i don't think one would switch the channel with such impressive and dynamic motions. it grabs your attention first and i feel that it is a good tactic.
@shotgunwinner What do you mean? They actually did do this. They used some CGI but they did set off all those paint bombs. Place was covered in environmentally friendly paint.
American Television Commercial Air Date Version: From September 25, 2006 to October 25, 2007/July 25, 2008 British Version: From October 9, 2006 to November 9, 2007/August 9, 2008 Philippine Version: From October 23, 2007 to November 23, 2008/August 23, 2009
yeah dude i got a 46er its so nice, go online and look at the tweak guides because the out of the box picture isn't that great. but if you tweak it, it's aamzing.
@SolaireYT understood, but saying "a bit of touching up" is a disservice to the effects company. They graded and colour corrected yes, but they also had to "remove" traces of the physical shoot such as the barrels etc used for the fireworks and certain other objects also. That is a very big job to do especially with paint going everywhere , its no cut and paste that's for sure. but yes on the paint you are correct that was real... and messy :-)
What you are saying is true - the building was demolished. But bear in mind that paint leaves splashes, and they have to be cleaned. Hence the 60 people and five days. I saw it on an E4 documentary on adverts.
That is effing amazing. And does anyone know what the music was for this advert? B.c to me it sounds like Aunt Marge's Waltz from the third Harry Potter film :L
Hey... regeneration is my job. The towerblock was in Toryglen in Glasgow. And I'm sure my managers would be very unhappy that some people have the view that by building decent homes to rehouse people who had been in failing accommodation we were contributing to the "gentrification" of the country. The aim, oddly, is to give folk a better standard of living...
the best thing about the bouncy balls is the song.. i think.. the name is heartbeats by the way..and the guy that sings is gonzales.. but i'm not so sure..
Thanks for your reply. I´d like to buy it, e.g. Rossini´s CD. But I think, here in Mlada Boleslav (city in Czech republic), there is no place, where I can buy it. Maybe via internet. It would be better than going to shops :-))) Once more thanks for your reply. It really helps me. Good night.
its real, building were scheduled to be demolished, its an area called toryglen in Glasgow up in scotland. the place was drenched in paint as u can imagine lol all paint was non toxic so it didnt harm anythin, was pretty cool

@alfredoseow These buildings were on Glasgow, Scotland. They were ordered for demolition so they used these building so they wouldn't have to clean up afterwords. They were then demolished.
Oh so true! Great vid, but all I can think of is the Glorious Ninth and Alex and his little Droogs causing mayhem!
whoever came up with this idea was a genius,,,,, i
According to the making-of video, it was eco-friendly paint, so all is good.
This ad is amazing.
i don't think one would switch the channel with such impressive and dynamic motions. it grabs your attention first and i feel that it is a good tactic.
Simply astounding. And yes, it's all real paint.
@shotgunwinner What do you mean? They actually did do this. They used some CGI but they did set off all those paint bombs. Place was covered in environmentally friendly paint.

What you are saying is true - the building was demolished. But bear in mind that paint leaves splashes, and they have to be cleaned. Hence the 60 people and five days. I saw it on an E4 documentary on adverts.
We should do that to all of Glasgow's tower blocks:D
Such a good ad!
except perhaps for the Glasgow Diamonds football team (although I don't think they were from Scotland) :)
