Jeep WJ Brake Noise Fix - Caliper Anchors - Vortex Garage Ep. 27

- Does your Jeep WJ make an annoying squeak, rattle, or noise at lower speeds or when lightly braking? Does it seem to go away as you brake harder? While these noises can be several things, a common culprit for this noise, esp. in the rear, are worn slider channels on your caliper anchors. This is where the pads contact from the floating caliper on the anchor. In this video we show you how they go bad, and how you can either fix yourself with a welder and grinder, or by purchasing an inexpensive rebuilt unit.
Thanks for taking the time to share your findings. I'm working through debugging some rear noise after ruling out my diff and rear bearings
Thank you, I've had this problem in the past with another jeep and could not figure out the problem, I have a different jeep now and same problem,!!! Now I know what the problem is and how to fix it thanks to your video,!!
Thank you, about to go add this to the long list of crap I've replaced on my WJ.
These stupid Jeeps man, we've just hit 130k miles and I feel like I'm three parts away from a brand new car. Everything that goes wrong is a "known issue" or "yeah sometimes they just do that"
Omg! Thank you Roland! I laughed so hard when I read your reply, because I have said this very thing.....A LOT! Should JEEP stand for JUST EXPECT EVERY PROBLEM? NO, but it seems to when it comes to the WJ's.

Just empty every pocket
great video, something you have made me aware of. cheep fix too.
If you put something other than Sil-Glyde on those pins it is liable to get sticky and cause a dragging brake incident even if the container says it is good for disk brakes?
Could this cause a clank to when hitting the brakes? Mine has a squeak and the clank when braking. I took my caliper off and I noticed I have marks worn into my anchor as well.
What book are you talking about? I recently purchased a WJ 03' 6cycl and would enjoy reading that book guide for a link if you got it.
Thankyou
I'd imagine I was speaking of the service manual, which usually are available from the manufacturer or via online services like AllDataDIY. I've heard there may be a WJ service manual pdf version floating around online if one searches on google.
Some brake kits come with a metal sleave that sits over the contacts on the anchor.
Hello. I have a question. Can this problem affect to fuel consumption?
Hi, here did you buy the rebuilt unit?
Now this squeak you're talking about , does it sound like its rotational , almost like a rock stuck in the pad and is almost like a pulse? Only happens going forward after driving for a little bit and goes away when the breaks are applied?
That’s exactly what I have going on. Only happens when rolling forward. Loudest at about 15mph. Completely wheel speed dependent, not rpm. Happens whether in neutral or drive. Ever figure out what it was?
Yeah it was the caliper bracket , where the pads slide they wear a groove into it. I filled the grooves with weld then smoothed them back out again. Problem solved
When it comes to disk brakes, there are 2 kinds: those that squeak, and those that will start squeaking.
This is so true...
will the fronts do the same thing? mine (2004) has a buzz/contact noise between 67-73 mph with 5-7° of turn in the steering wheel.
new pads
tires rotated n ballanced,. new hubs n axel shafts,
ball joints n tie rod ends.are good.
HELP!
Scott Hicks Yes the fronts can have this happen too, and it may depend on if you have the Tevis vs Akebono front calipers. also have you inspected your front driveshaft, as if too can cause odd vibrations or noises depending on if you have a worn rzeppa if so equipped. lookup the Jeep WJ Driveshaft Special here on our channel incase you think that could be something worth checking as we talk about different things you'll find on WJ Driveshafts. hope this helps!
Friend, watch your video in Russia, very LIKE ,,, bought myself an old WJ getting ready for repair, replacing the transmission box oil seal ... you do not have a video about replacing the stuffing box?
