For those of you wondering if these meal replacement shake diets work, yes they do. 11 years ago I used the brand Herbalife to replace 2 of my meals with a shake. I had one meal that had about 600 calories. The meal consisted of protein and carbs. At night I used milk instead of water in the shake so it kept me fuller overnight. I lost about 75 pounds in 6 months. Which is kind of fast. I was 225 lbs in the beginning, and then at the end I weighed around 150. These shake diets tend to work since you’re in a calorie deficit due to you replacing two of your meals with a shake. Whether it’s right for you is completely up to you.

I’m a woman in my 30s, who is pretty active and on largely healthy and unprocessed diet (plenty of fiber from vegetables, quality fats from olive and coconut oils, fish, lean meat and whole grains like pui lentils and wild rice - I’d say it’s on the low carb side but not an extreme).
I‘ve been trying this out since the 2nd of Feb, in an attempt to shed some weight I’ve put on after I’ve quit smoking and leg injury last year, which prevented me from running for many months during lock downs. I should mention that I have been known to have a sluggish metabolism, but no health issues other than mild chronic kidney disease.
Results so far are wildly encouraging:
    Starting weight: 74.3kg
    Current weight: 72.6 kg
    Disclaimers:
    1) NUTRITION: I use low sugar whey isolate (1g of carbs per scoop), take magnesium, calcium, omega 3, collagen, coenzyme Q10 and multivitamin supplements, to prevent malnutrition and sports injuries during this challenge. I also add some Himalayan salt to my shakes, to help replace sodium lost during exercise. I consider adding fibre supplement to it from next week.
    2) EXERCISE. I’m completing HIIT Max challenge available on UA-cam by Body Rock, which I’d recommend for anyone who is not new to exercise and is craving a personal trainer experience without a massive spend. You will find easier challenges also by them if you’re new to this form of intense effort, along with advice on correct form to prevent injuries. I do this in the gym daily, near my feeding window of 6-8 hours.
    3) RESULTS: I have an advanced electronic body composition scales which showed 0.3% decrease in fat mass, 0.3% increase in muscle mass and, interestingly, an improved water weight composition by 2%. So I seem to be shedding fat and while keeping myself hydrated, which is great news!
I will post weekly updates for the next 8 weeks, after which time I will replace one shake with a healthy salad with some seafood or another rich source of protein, and after a month, I’ll replace the 2nd shake with healthy dinner (lean meat/fish + steamed green veg in low carb dressing). Carbs will be added last and I expect to regain some of the water weight once this happens, but this shouldn’t lead to increase in fat mass.
Hopefully I’ll manage to keep all the lost weight with this approach.
If you’ve already tried this and have suggestions to improve my approach, please feel free to comment :)

Hello! I really hope you're doing well with your diet choices.
I noticed in your comment that you have a kidney disease. Unfortunately most of these products pass through kidneys in order to be eliminated from our body.
Since you have a chronic problem it would be preferable to ask your doctor before their consumption.
Wish you all the best and a great success to your diet journey.

    • @misscogito9865
      @misscogito9865 2 роки тому +1

@@chdanae18 hello, I’m aware of this. It’s a mild problem and I haven’t had any symptoms suggesting that my kidneys are struggling at all.
Also, I’m now alternating 2 weeks of the shakes with two weeks of normal, unprocessed calories maintenance diet, as I’ve read about a scientific study showing that this approach increases weight loss, compared to continued restriction. So far kept the 4kgs I’ve lost by eating varied diet, so I’m encouraged to keep going.

It was obvious at the beginning of the first episode that you've used HUEL Black Edition. They are quite complete nutrition with balanced macros and phytonutrient composition. Stating that you only have two flavours is misleading, as you could have bought the flavour boosts, which are awesome.
I did a 10-day diet in which I mostly had only HUEL Black shakes on some days (6/10). Sometimes i would have 4 shakes, sometimes 3, with no other food. I did some form of exercise maybe 6 of those days, as my job is very desk-based. I lost 3.5 kg in those 10 days.

  • @Headhunterzify

I don’t know if you’ll read or let alone reply, but I just want to say that I lost a lot of weight in a week just by doing cardio. Mostly cycling for an hour, which usually burn 300 - 600 calories according to the machine after putting my weight. Now, the problem is that most of these weight lost is too drastic. I’d lose like 5kg per week is I cycled for at least 5 - 6 days per week. Some say it’s water retention. I haven’t done any studies regarding the total water retention our bodies can hold, but it seems off to me. But, back to the main subject and with that drastic of a weight lost I hardly felt tired, hungry or fatigue and muscle grew but not as drastic as my weight lost. All this was done without a protein shake. The best part is during the lockdown period I haven’t been exercising and just maintain my meal until June, where I cracked and ate two double cheeseburgers and two fried chicken. I did the same eating style over the past few weeks. But, when I weighed in I saw that I lost a lot of muscle and gained a lot of fat and to my surprised no more than a kilo of weight was added. So, yeah. It’s a long story, but this is was what happened. Many come and told me, especially personal gym trainers that my weight lost is not ideal and I could put my body into shock because of the drastic weight lost. But, again I’m not constantly tired, hungry or even fatigued.

Blue , do what ever is going to
Make you happy if you end up losing weight faster than the average person then good for you , the goal is to be happy with who you are and if you need to lose weight to be happy then do so , don’t let a personal trainer try to break you down because your exercising everyday screw them this is your life you do what’s best for you

    • @sharonkour9721
      @sharonkour9721 2 роки тому +1

yes blue you are right you can lose weight just doing cardio but you need to change style of the cadio and add another excersise in if you do constant cardi the body stops working so you probably are right in what you say. But if you lost weight as long as you feel good that's all that matters. That's why I have added a shake in my diet so it goes balance and help not put it back on, I don't do too much cardi I stick to what I do everyday but with other training Good luck and I agree with you

Yes, shakes are low carb and low calorie... that’s WHY they work! Lol. 😂 They also work because you’re having a thick liquid instead of solid food, so your stomach naturally shrinks only having 1 solid food meal a day. Don’t just get the “protein shake powder” or already made shakes like “premium” at Costco. Get actual MEAL REPLACEMENT shakes that have your day’s nutrients in them - a real shake meal, not just a protein shake.

very well appreciated your 30 day challenge very informative. you need carbs they are important you should stop all white stuff I don't do as the packet says as I don't beleive a shake will keep weight off unless you don't eat. I have to eat at least a meal a day and I only feel these shakes only work if you naturally have a good duet and the calories is then natural so you don't need to check. I am going to check after 2 months of this journey to see if things have changed. But as female beacsue our homeowners we need to stay off the shake and wat more if you get my drift we get cravings like mad I know I do. So the shake my make things a bit too much at that point. I'm taking vitamins I just skip the small meal which is nit needed when going gym on heavy stomach that can be bad I've noticed that doing cardio due to my diet I feel I've gona a lot stronger my bones looks heavier were in the areas they looked fragile. so a bit of both in terms of activity and eat well. Good video man 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I'm currently doing a similar thing to kick start and get rid of my covid-weight. Then drop to one shake and have two meals while trying out new recipes (healthy) My issue is my relationship with food, particularly sweets, and the shakes really do help with that side. I lost weight 5 years ago kept it off for 3 but gain half of it over my last 2 years of uni. So I think short term this is good to see results to encourage a lifestyle change and it's an easy way to break away from bad food choices but you should educate yourself along the way, so that one main meal should be you trying out new things to build on for when the month is over

Thanks for a really thorough review of the concept rather than particular product. Hopefully you won’t have the option to explore this, but I wondered if you had done this experiment during full lockdown how much of an impact the lack of variety would have had on your mental well-being. Ie for me the initial 12 weeks with the lack of external stimulus of working from home and the missing of office banter, gym (still not risked it yet) etc meant meals became even more of a marker of the passing of time.

I think we use many different things that help distract us from ourselves and our thoughts. Exercising, working, socialising, eating. The lockdown has uncovered a lot of people that weren’t dealing with certain things in their lives.
Variety for me wasn’t too much of an issue. I’ve still got a bodybuilders mentality at times like this were I just get on with it. I must admit I was definitely eating more at the start of lockdown and I managed to get over it once everything seemed to settle into a new routine.

I have one question about this, can I only have the two milkshakes, 1 in the morning and 1 in the middle of the day? Or do I need a meal? Also what kind of powder was it called or what is the brand

Fantastic videos and advice I'm giving this a go from today. I had an injury and couldn't do any cardio for six weeks. I have been over eating for those six weeks. I'm going to use this as a kick start then back on to a healthy eating plan 👍

this is literally the "slim fast diet" no ill will intended...js. at least you're smart enough to realize, this isn't the healthiest way to go. cheers m8.

I'm not sure we could call it unhealthy nor that it isn't effective.
It will work for those who need to lower their weight for major health reasons (morbidly obese).
I think this didn't work for me because of the fast I know how to diet. How to fit around what I like and how to monitor it. I think those who want to lose weight should focus on those two things rather than a shake diet.

@@Gordongreenhorn for sure. i wouldn't argue with that. actually now that you mentioned it, i think those premixed protein shakes are a pretty big part of the recovery protocol from like lap band surgery or whatever. i do protein shakes on a fairly regular basis...i don't have a real big appetite and it's just easier to hit my protein with those. the pre-made ones are always kinda funky tho. cheers m8.

What a useless video. But I really liked the can of coke zero in my face throughout the video as I always mix my protein with coke zero. atleast now I know I know I am on the right track 👍
